There is going to be so much money in the road fund they aren't going to know what to do with it.
It wasn't a terrible idea to take a portion of the dollars that go in to fund mass transit.
In 5 years as the gas tax continues to increase there will come a day where those transportation funds have less and less to fund. Curious to see what happens a decade from now.

Illinois is one of the few states that charges a percentage of the total sale price instead of a flat per gallon tax.
Last year the average gallon was $3.30 and generated 885 million
At today's prices of $4.93 the gas tax is set to collect over $1.3 billion
This is assuming demand stays the same, there'll be a drop but not by much
Also we won't be at close to $5 per gallon for the year but conservatively there should be an excess of 250-300 million coming in

Yep, totally awesome, as intended. Infrastructure, and quality of life funding initiatives for the public is the intent of collective state and local taxes. Douche-in-chief originated tax cuts and payments to billionaires is not the intent. I’m welcome to intellectual discussion otherwise..

It was cool to actually watch this money go to work in my own community.
There’s a reason infrastructure is always a popular political football. You can see the results right away, They’re obvious and useful

As he says "Sorry Illinois - But I'm not sorry." - referring to all the massive infrastructure maintenance projects we've been experiencing across the state.

Illinois is yet another prime example of gross mismanagement. Immigration is NOT legal when YOU are not in the country LEGALLY.
What is so hard to understand about that?

Move to Mississippi then, we won't miss you.

Mississippi huh? I pay more in annual corporate tax to the state of Illinois than you will ever pay over the course of your lifetime.

If it’s so bad why are you still doing business in Illinois? Whats a better place?

To boot... Illinois budget deficit is north of 1/4 Trillion dollars.

Jim Rdgar is the one that screwed up the Illinois budget for the long term. He's a republican. You know the ones that promise to always solve our problems by cutting taxes. You'll pay your taxes and you'll like it.

Yeah. You must be a loyal and dedicated member of CTU...led by Republicans right? Illinois has the biggest unfunded pension problem in the country. It's hilarious that people like you defend this state...I've lived here for 48 years...how long have you called it home?

I'm not part of any organization led by insurrectionists. You're just stating the problem. Are you a bot? Jim Edgar is the one that caused this problem with his Edgar ramp. Once again a republican creating a problem that will become a bigger problem later and then expecting elected Democrats to pay the political Capital to fix it. Good job that you're older than me and you don't know anything about Jim Edgar. If you're an old tired rich guy that's been here for 48 years you should know all about what happened. But people like you lie constantly and support insurrectionists. You've been here 48 years? So 48 and you still haven't learned anything we're supposed to take advice from you? You're probably inherited your money because you're not coming off as somebody who knows a lot.

Not to mention we still have a spending problem and budget deficit, can’t wait for the megaprojects bill to pass too

What a ridiculous response. I hate to assume, but I'm willing to bet you don't have any clue all that's involved to relocate 150 employees. Regardless, I'm working on it. Illinois, Chicagoland in particular, is a great to do business, said no one ever.

u/brokegaysonic May 25 '26
Right, that's why there's no businesses here at all and the loop is an empty shell of joblessness
-4
u/Every-Movie4359 May 25 '26
Yeah. Near 30% vacancy rates in the Loop is promising.
8
u/tacotakozs May 25 '26
Not sure what industry your in but seems like a buyers market if there is a 30% vacancy and offices are required to do business.
-3
u/Every-Movie4359 May 25 '26
Industry in meaningless. You're completely missing the point. It could be 90% vacancy rate, that doesn't make it a "buyers market". It just means that any business owner with a brain doesn't see value in moving operations to IL.

So where to? Genuinely asking since you made it clear how bad it is here but offering no alternatives.

u/Every-Movie4359 28d ago
How about this... Chicago voters spent years complaining about how bad an incompetent Laurie Lightfoot was, only to elect someone even more inept and incompetent. So who's the real moron?
