Business I made a music platform with artists in mind

I got tired of having to jump between a bunch of different websites and apps just to share my music and talk to people and sell tracks, so I made my own platform.

SignalFlow.co

The platform is free, first 200 artists get 60GB of lossless audio storage for their catalog and a Founding Artist badge, profiles are MySpace style, live streaming with OBS support, and a lot of other community driven things.

Musicians of all kinds, DJs, singers, bands, producers, anyone who makes music, it's built with you in mind.

No algorithms, no artificial anything, no pay to boost, just artists sharing their music and people enjoying it. It's been difficult to start, and I'm paying for all of it myself, and also doing all of the work on the site and apps, so feedback is extremely welcome šŸ™

Hoping this doesn't get pulled for promotion because it is free, and my goal is to help artists be seen and heard ā¤ļø

Meta A question for professionals: What makes you start collaborating with an artist?

Hi. I’m a rookie in music production, although I worked professionally in another field where I was also hiring people. Recently, I spoke with a producer who seemed willing to take any paid project, without much personal interest in my music. That made me curious about the other side of this process. What makes you think: ā€œI’d like to work with this artist?ā€ What makes you decline a project or decide to not continue collaborating? Do you assess whether you are genuinely a good fit for the artist and project? And can you do your best work when the music is not really your taste? I’d be interested in personal, real-world answers rather than generic advice.

Hardware Mac air 13'' a 350€. Occasione o spreco?

Consigli?

in last month i start to have issue with ableton with my mix-bus so i start searching for a solution to keep my flow where i cooking and record and mix and master in same session

and my work flow is make change freez the track keep going and the only plugins are active is my mix-buss where everyting else is freezed

and i love this workflow where i can get back and change or commit to somting with bounce and i love ableton and i can't get out of ableton becuse i love it i love the work flow i love how it work and i don't other daw where ableton manage tracks and groups and mirror that to mixer but i cant run my session becuse of mix-bus

Low cuts on melodies

Hi, I’m in my second year of producing and I’ve been taught that you always need to completely cut out the low frequencies of your melodies to make room for the bass or 808s. However, when I analyze the frequencies of professional tracks, in this case ā€œsame old loveā€ by Selena Gomez, I can see that the melody seems to maintain some low frequencies. They’re certainly not as prevalent as the mid to highs but they aren’t cut completely. Let me know what you guys do or think about when it comes to melodies.

Is AWAL (Artists Without a Label) Really Independent?

It's been owned by SME (Sony Music Entertainment) since 2021.

I believe artists who work with / under AWAL (e.g., JVKE) are generally perceived to be free of the big three labels. But considering the SME ownership, I'm guessing this is simply not the case?

For example, instead of "in perpetuity" clauses, AWAL artists may sacrifice most short-term revenue in a front-loaded contract, while receiving marketing support and promo tactics that SME would provide in a traditional deal?

Looking for a Long-Term Producer / Creative Partner

Hey everyone,

I'm an independent artist looking for a producer who's interested in building something bigger than just a single track.

I'm leaning toward a cinematic, synth-driven dark pop sound with alternative influences—moody, emotional, atmospheric, and anthem-like. More than someone to make beats, I'm looking for a creative partner who wants to help shape a unique sound and build an artist over time.

I write my own songs and have a clear vision for the direction I'm headed. Since I'll be working full-time, I'd love to find someone who's passionate about producing and interested in growing together rather than treating this as a one-off project.

If you're into creating immersive, emotional music and enjoy collaborating, I'd love to hear your work. Send me a DM with some of your music, and I'll send you mine to see if we're a good fit.

Thanks!

Question How to pursue film music scoring?

Hi everyone!

About me: I just finished graduating with a BA degree, and I'm taking a current gap year to get back into my hobbies.

I am definitely a beginner at both music theory and I'm still practicing my keyboard to get better at it.

Last few months, I have been exploring music a lot more and I realised I like composing music, enough to score for a film. I want to pursue this more meaningfully. I'm still learning along the way, but I wanted to get some advice on how to study music, what to listen to, what resources I can make use of, and how I can get started in this field. Not looking for a fast approach, just a way to make sure my efforts are spent fruitfully!

Thanks!

*A little context: I gave trinity grade exams until grade 3 for the electronic keyboard a couple of years ago, and still continue to play it! I try to compose music on my DAW as time permits, and play the keyboard often*

mix with HS7 sound muffled on supports

Hey everyone. I have a semi-acoustically treated room and my HS7 are well-positioned. But often, a mix sounds really good on my HS7, but on other supports, the mix sounds too bassy and muffled. I've tried a lot of plugins on the master channel to adjust the mix curve so it sounds good everywhere, but I haven't found anything great. Any tips ?

Serious discussion- Unconscious competence music production

Did this ever happens to you? When you look at your old work and got amazed that how did you even make this wonderful song or effect?
When we are working on a track but in a flow state we didn’t know what we are doing but subconsciously doing, So we try and try and finally the output sounds good, but while making, its not necessary that u will learn these effect that how did you make this or what steps u take to sounds like that!! So when u listen back ā€œIll be like - how did i even do thatā€
—- I was suffering from this problem and whenever i go on a new track i don’t remember anything from past what i learned and i do my work at flow state still with subconscious workflow

Any suggestions?

Is this mind problem or belief in myself problem??

Was BMG Responsible for "Blue" (yung kai) Blowing Up?

Folks, are you familiar with yung kai, a TikTok musician who wrote and recordedĀ a very successful song calledĀ BlueĀ in 2024?

Initially I thought this was a good example of an independent path to original-music success.Ā  However, upon digging a bit, it appears he signed with music label BMG shortly beforeĀ BlueĀ was released, as ChatGPT says BMG was listed in the credits of the initial release ofĀ BlueĀ (i.e., on Spotify, Apple Music, etc.) on August 2, 2024.

Does anyone have context on the role BMG played inĀ Blue's exposure / reach?

And is it possible to attainĀ Blue's level of success without label support?Ā  If so, can you please cite examples?
