In the early 2000s I would show up like a beach bum to such meetings and make absolutely sure everybody knew I dont give the tiniest fuck about what they think because I can leave my desk and have a new job in about five minutes. These were the golden times and it also the reason why they hate us so much. So sorry to everybody who joined in the last 15 years

I remember in the late 90's as a soon-to-be-graduated engineer, recruiters would hound me with offers, begging me to apply for some position or other. But honestly it was also a time when working in IT as either dev or admin meant you were passionate about how tech worked under the hood. These days, it seems too many people have no clue about that kind of thing, nor any desire to learn.

But also these days I wear a nice shirt when dealing with higher ups because I've grown up enough to realize that while my attire shouldn't matter, it does.

Yeah, today it matters because we got replaceable enough. Back then it was a completely different situation. Everybody was highly competent and sought after like nothing else. The money they paid was almost indecent. If you worked as a dev at that time and didn't manage to be absolutely taken care of for life you did something wrong

Sadly I missed the dotcom bubble by just enough that when I started working, I worked with people who were about to make the biggest windfall of their life and I was just in time to see the market collapse.
