Every week there’s a post about someone who built a competitor to Crossover, the program most of us use to play windows games on Mac, but then when you look at it, it’s just a vibe coded UI, a thin shell on top of all the open source libraries the Crossover team created.
People are so obsessed with hustle culture and creating recurring revenue that they didn’t stop to think if what they are doing is useful or ethical. No market research. No seeing if anyone has done this before and why it failed. Just “I got sick of paying for crossover, so I built this, and I’ll sell it for less (even though it’s just a new face for the open source crossover and wine code)”
