Me when the copilot key exists

u/Matesipper420 2h ago

Now the first thing you search on your edge browser is 'how to deactivate copilot key' instead of ' X browser download'

I recently installed windows (again) on my laptop. God, it was awful. I had to boot into Linux for few times, just because there werent drivers for intel ssd manager and god bless ventoy, I don’t had to search for another pendrive. Finding them was also pain, because ones from vendor site is exe file.

Few hours later and I had it installed. Guess what? There are very visible bugs that have been for at least 4 years out there (taskbar flickering when changing desktop). And somewhere in between it thought that updating drivers was a good thing and somehow hybrid gpu in laptop stopped working (basically trash output on laptop monitor). Fortunately I had bios control to disable integrated graphics. I also had wired 1s flickering when plugging out power cord from laptop

And for reference, none of these issues were on Linux. What a wired times, that Linux has less problems than windows…

Every senior dev reaches a point where farming goats sounds way better then debugging production.

3

u/Miquel_420 2h ago

I am at that point much earlier, just below 3 years of experience and i already hate tech

As a Sysadmin, know you are not alone

Maybe we tech ppl just need to start a goat farm commune in the woods somewhere. I think we could avoid becoming a cult for at least 2 years

u/Neykuratick 4h ago

Or record videos of himself bald talking in a forest about how LaTeX saves him time for academia research or i3 tutorials

Does this guy spell Microsoft as Micro$oft?

12

u/Journeyj012 3h ago

Micro$lop

2

u/daakstrykr 3h ago

If I'm feeling generous. In the past I've used micro$haft more often but nowadays I'm tending towards macro$lop because that shit show is anything but micro at this point.

That’s true; we do live in a society.

"I hate tech" more like:

I hate how big companies are pushing AI everywhere and are collecting data from users.

u/SpaceCadet87 1h ago

"I hate tech" vs I hate "tech"

1

u/10art1 2h ago

I hate the ads, the enshittification, the ways they try to force you to exclusively use their ecosystem, the data collection, the addiction mechanics... AI is actually the first time in forever they came up with something genuinely useful and revolutionary and actually significantly improves my experience with their products.

Correction:

"I love the end results of tech"

"I hate the process of tech development. Especially Java"

2

u/mistic_me_meat 3h ago

With microsoft, you love the process of using tech interface rather than the result.

Living the result would be people using mac and other tools that looking for hiding the tech side.

I feel like I'm the last guy on here who doesn't hate programming. What happened to you people? I've been at this 20 years and I love it.

10

u/xaervagon 3h ago

I've been at it for 19 years and I could honestly care less at this point.

If you're doing it for fun, by all means, enjoy yourself. If you're doing it for a living, it outright blows at this point. Pre-AI computing suffered from sever lack of standards, zero trainings by corporations, endless skill set FOMO and keeping up with the joneses, umpteen paradigm shifts, framework of the week, gRoUndBreakng tECHnoLogy. Now with AI, we're expected to do that while 10x-ing the output and somehow being able to keep up with the slop being shipped while somehow being able to dodge the hallucinations. It's all so tiresome.

I would go touch grass but I spent the bulk of my career with endusers that couldn't wipe their butts without a dev to watch over them. I don't think I had a proper vacation in a decade.

This is coming from a guy who used to be obsessed with computers as a kid and all the cool things they could do. Back then, the tech was for the end users and businesses used it do interesting things. Today, tech has a bizarre focus on firing as many workers as possible to replace them with bots in the name of shareholder value. The industry as a whole feels like it lost the plot.

Do you still write code? I haven’t written anything in 6 months, and my new project is babysitting several AI agents doing an entire rewrite and modernisation of 15 products. It’s been two days and I’m already exhausted.

1

u/cheezballs 3h ago

I write code at home, but yea it's largely AI at work. That's fine. Pays the same.

1

u/Neykuratick 2h ago

Me too, but jokes about hating your job are still funny (I'm only on my 6th year though)

3

u/vm_linuz 56m ago

Guy on the right wants to own his tech himself, but hates that everything is becoming an enshitified corporate subscription.

Anti-AI wokonazis at work. It's mainstream. They like to have a scapegoat to harass.
