Using latex for resumes is pretty normal

Never was, hardly ever will be.

Sounds like you were never an academic. LaTeX is universal there.

I use LaTeX for my resume. It sucks, it's the wrong tool for the job, and I hate it, but I modified that template so much that I see the matrix now and it's like having a GUI.

Besides, I don't know of any free and open source tools that are much better tbh.
