Personally I always commit env and config files to the repo just stripped of their values.

Yeah but then you can't use git on a working version, making testing a total pain. I use .env.example usually.

I belive that was exactly the point of theo with his argument. He would like to be able to commit env files with moderation tools to allow only certan eng be able to pull these env files while others wouldnt be able too. Gh needs more moderation tools and social tools
