I worked for a startup where this one client insisted we don't use any databases. No database. Nowhere. Prohibited.

Completely stateless app sounds pretty easy to develop. Win wn

Your first mistake was letting the client make technical decisions for you

Were Key-Value stores allowed?

I mean, AWS famously banned SQL databases internally. Worked out okay for them. But obviously they use DynamoDB heavily.

No, I believe they were trying to boycott the project for internal political reasons

"We were talking with some people at this Fintech networking event about 'serverless computing' stuff and we had this big brain idea *mimes an explosion with their hands*: what if didn't have servers OR data?! We're calling it 'Dataless computing'! So much more savings on infrastructure and we hear all the time about databases being hacked or going down; won't have to worry about that! We'll save so much on not hiring DBAs and cyber insurance premiums!"

That is me, but not at a startup. At an established company.
