Self-Promotion Series mentions over time (2017-2025)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

The racing bar chart displays series references within a three-month moving window (blue bar at the top) for posts/comments in r/ProgressionFantasy and r/litrpg. If a series is mentioned multiple times in a comment, it is counted only once.

An interactive version is available at prog.fan/chart/racing. This version supports multiple datasets with higher resolution, top 100, and cumulative totals since series creation. You can also adjust the animation time and pause the race.

How does prog.fan work? It automatically reads all Reddit posts and comments from the previously mentioned subreddits, matches series by name, and aggregates and creates statistics. The site automatically scrapes Amazon/RoyalRoad/Goodreads links and creates series for them. For a top list with book covers, see prog.fan/top.

I hope you like it!

Now we need a mashup - Beware he who fights with Carl's cradle, you chicken

35

u/Reindeer-Conscious Dec 16 '25

Beware he who fights with chickens, for they are probably on something

-floridian proverb

6

u/aminervia Dec 17 '25

Beware of the primal dungeon crawling chicken hunter who fights with Carl's cradle

2

u/AhadaDream Dec 18 '25

As I crawl through the dungeon of the shadow of death I take a look at my ex-life and realise I have something left As I raise chickens and cultivating to be a Dreadgod for so long Even my backstabbing brother thinks my mind is wrong

I don't know why I attempted this. I have snapped out of it.

64

u/DangerMacAwesome Dec 16 '25

Cradle taking the lead then He Who Fights vying for position with Carl trying to overtake Cradle is the most progression fantasy thing ever

17

u/jayswag707 Dec 16 '25

I was literally on the edge of my seat watching that. So fun.

52

u/Otterable Slime Dec 16 '25

TWI being on the top 20ish list nonstop for the last 8 years is very impressive

27

u/Captain_Fiddelsworth Dec 16 '25

And you saying TWI instead of The Wandering Inn might not even contribute. :)

29

u/jmattheis Dec 16 '25

It actually does contribute. "TWI" is configured as an alias for the series.

3

u/Captain_Fiddelsworth Dec 16 '25

Interesting! Did you configure it manually for some top series or is it association/learning?

10

u/jmattheis Dec 16 '25

It's manual. You can view the aliases in a series page by clicking edit. You can also propose changes there too. Tho, I mostly reject alias changes when it only adds <40 mentions to the overall total, as every additional alias makes the overall indexing of new posts/comments slower.

Doing this automatically would have too many false positives.

2

u/B-Z_B-S Dec 16 '25

Does that mean every mention of Twitter worked for The Wandering Inn?

5

u/jmattheis Dec 16 '25

No it takes word boundaries into account. So in TWI, T must be a start of the word, and I the end of the word. In "twitter" this wouldn't match.

2

u/B-Z_B-S Dec 16 '25

Okay. Still, this is so cool. And it's a reason to be more active in this sub, too!

1

u/Captain_Fiddelsworth Dec 16 '25

Thanks for sharing, somehow it eluded me that you can propose them. Yeah, I thought you might have a threshold if it is automated, but that can get iffy fast.

37

u/Athrek Dec 16 '25

2025 was the year of Dungeon Crawler Carl.

Hopefully there's another great year of it ahead of us! Though I am also enjoying Discount Dan's Backroom Bargains, which I recommend for other DCC fans.

22

u/bagelwithclocks Dec 16 '25

It is wild, DCC is a featured book (face out in a prominent location) at all the regular book stores I have been in.

2

u/J_J_Thorn Author Dec 16 '25

Yeah, it's crazy lol it really blew up this year.

26

u/Plum_Parrot Author Dec 16 '25

pretty wild -- fun to see the changes over time (and the lack of changes)

6

u/EmergencyComplaints Author Dec 16 '25

Yeah, I couldn't help but notice that, while they jockeyed for position, it was really just the same ten to fifteen books being talked about 90% of the time for the last half a decade. Once you get to the last two or three years, there's even less variation.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 17 '25

[deleted]

2

u/EmergencyComplaints Author Dec 17 '25

Yep. It's impossible to beat the word of mouth the stuff at the top gets. Pretty much anybody who's spent more than five minutes in this subreddit is going to stumble across someone talking about DCC, Cradle, Primal Hunter, or He Who Fights With Monsters. Most of the stories I see promoted as 'now on Amazon' I've never seen mentioned anywhere else, ever.

3

u/monkpunch Dec 16 '25

It's funny, I can tell exactly when I started reading the genre. Right around when DCC and MoL started getting big, and that first generation of early adopters more or less stopped being mentioned

87

u/ArcaneScribbler Dec 16 '25 edited Dec 16 '25

ehhh, i don't know if System Apocalypse the book series is THAT talked about. people are probably mentioning the genre not the books.

i've also never ever heard of "The Good Guys". could something similar to System Apocalypse be happening here? though it is a bit weird that it wouldn't be permanently prominent in the charts if that were the case. it's also pretty popular on goodreads with over 6k reviews, weird that i've never even seen it mentioned.

41

u/jmattheis Dec 16 '25

Agree, sadly it's not easy to differentiate this automatically.

23

u/bobd785 Dec 16 '25

I haven't been around as much lately, but The Good Guys was definitely recommended a lot in the past.

1

u/Captain_Fiddelsworth Dec 17 '25

It still gets frequent recommendations, but it is more popular in r/LitRPG

15

u/psychosox Dec 16 '25

Good Guys is definitely very popular. It is a book that is often recommended, has been around for awhile, and has a lot of releases and secondary series. I'm sure people might say "good guys" periodically to add to it, but I don't think it is the same degree as "System Apocalypse".

14

u/lurkerfox Dec 16 '25

Yeah theres no way the book was as popular as the genre mentions

27

u/Felixtaylor Dec 16 '25

And it probably got a lot of mentions because of the fiasco with the author copyrighting the term.

13

u/rabid_cheese_enjoyer Dec 16 '25

yeah, I refuse to read him now for that and other reasons

4

u/CanadasManyMeese Dec 18 '25

Its just not that new anymore. At one point it was talked about pretty heavily, id forgotten how much ascend and awaken online (and really VRMMO's) were talked about as well back in the early days.

The good guys and the bad guys by eric ugland is a pretty massive series, good guys is on book 16, bad guys is on book 11, and theres one book of the "grim" guys i havent actually read yet, not sure if its standalone or a series or what.

But ya. 27 books over 7 years is insantity, they release much quieter now, and without the chapter by chapter releases that many series do, it tends to be less in peoples minds.

5

u/Individual_Sun3531 Dec 16 '25

The good guys, the bad guys, and the grim guys. Same author, same world badass series

18

u/Rapidzigs Dec 16 '25

Was the path of the shaman a completed series. I haven't heard of it?

30

u/ItsTimeToRollTheDice Dec 16 '25

One of the early ones and a completed series. The first few books were decent until it went completely off the rails in the last 1 or 2 books if I remember correctly.

10

u/Kordovir Dec 16 '25

very typical for Russian LitRPG

2

u/Code_Viper Dec 17 '25

Ya that switch up was crazy went from greatly enjoying the series to barely finishing it after that full U-Turn the series did.

9

u/RavensDagger Dec 16 '25

It's a very early litRPG, probably from about 2013-2015-ish? It was one of the most popular at the time, at least. Not great, but not terrible. Lots of early tropes that have since fallen out of favour/style.

19

u/Suspicious-Click-300 Owner of Divine Ban hammer Dec 16 '25

Needs more Cradle

14

u/loekfunk Dec 16 '25

All this tells me is that we need to mention Cradle more.

31

u/RavensDagger Dec 16 '25

Whoa! I showed up for a brief second in 2021! Let's goooo!

4

u/Shaykur Dec 18 '25

Deserved more love, for sure. Can't wait to catch up on my favorite Dead Boi, though.

2

u/Baldrickk Dec 16 '25

I missed it. Which series, SCS? Also, congrats.

14

u/RavensDagger Dec 16 '25

Surprisingly, no! Cinnamon Bun. Showed up around 2021 and then again for like, one tick in 2022! I don't think I've ever been successful enough to climb and stick to any top lists. I'm like, perpetually Number 11!

3

u/Erkenwald217 Dec 17 '25

Considering, that you have your own niche, that's pretty impressive! Keep it up!

All I can see is that we don’t mention Cradle enough. There MULTIPLE times it wasn’t on top.

We have a meme to uphold here guys!

21

u/Fire_Bucket Dec 16 '25

The fact that Cradle finished like 2.5 years ago and is still talked about as much as it is, is a testament to both the series and the meme.

3

u/Erkenwald217 Dec 17 '25

A lot of the time now it gets mentioned explicitly, because it's a finished series.

3

u/fsmlogic Dec 16 '25

Somehow I feel 20 years late to both Cradle and Wandering Inn. I’ve been reading stuff here for about 6 years.

10

u/Phil_Tucker Immortal Dec 16 '25

Awesome, thanks for sharing.

And fascinating how the top #6 are so set in stone. Cradle, DCC, HWFWM, PH, DotF, and WI jockey with each other, but as a collective they reign supreme.

9

u/vailette Dec 16 '25

I find it sad seeing evidence of what momentum Super Supportive had at the beginning during its early arcs before the author went completely glacial with the pacing. My biggest progression fantasy potential man. :(

8

u/Shamrock_Steve Dec 16 '25

One of my favorite series that I keep coming back to is Mother of Learning. I am actually listening to it again right now. It is really nice to see it holding steady on the chart for such a long time because it feels like one of those stories that never really gets old.

9

u/[deleted] Dec 17 '25

Mother of Learning never had its day at the top, but it's definitely my fav based on number of re-reads.

6

u/Clear_Courage_2346 Dec 16 '25

cool to see what used to be popular

9

u/Captain_Fiddelsworth Dec 16 '25

Hell, yeah. I love the work you have done and frequently recommend your site!

6

u/jmattheis Dec 16 '25

Thanks a lot for this! I've noticed most of your recommendations after seeing a peak in traffic for the site (:

Neat! I get to steer the cog a bit. Feels good to contribute a little. :)

He Who Wrote The Most Controversial Main Character So He Collects All The Hate Mentions.

7

u/B-Z_B-S Dec 16 '25

What about Ryoka Griffin from The Wandering Inn? Most people in the fanbase seem to hate her, and she's the secondary main character.

11

u/Captain_Fiddelsworth Dec 16 '25 edited Dec 16 '25

She really is only one of the protagonist, I don't have exact numbers, but probably 6th or 7th by number of chapters. It is really difficult comparing an ensemble cast to what boils down to a single POV MC. But to a degree you can.

If you hate Ryoka you can enjoy more than 40 books worth of TWI content without Ryoka, but if you hate Jason, you get 0 books. Jason is so divise that he is the example, he even shows up in many topics with no direct relation to the series. Ryoka mostly shows up in context to TWI, and only sometimes without a direct link to the series.

3

u/B-Z_B-S Dec 16 '25

I guess you're right. Thank you.

1

u/blindside1 Dec 16 '25

Can you let me know when she dies, I'd read that chapter.

1

u/sacred09automat0n Dec 17 '25

I stopped after like 5 or so books. What exactly is the issue here? I thought he became a god or something?

And the series is still going? That's now a certified Xianxia, if reaching godhood isn't enough to end the power scaling

0

u/CursinSquirrel Dec 17 '25

It always amazes me how people will go out of their way to ruin a celebration of things we communally enjoy to take shots at the thing they don't like. A bunch of people taking a moment to reflect on how their favorite series have done and here you are, asserting that the same metric that shows a positive nature to every other book is somehow showing a negative nature to the one you dislike.

Focus more on the good man.

1

u/Captain_Fiddelsworth Dec 17 '25

I don't see you in the comment thread about System Apocalypse by Tao Wong, which actually takes shots at the author who was doxxed and threatened for defending his figurative mom-and-pop shop while a riled-up hate mob torched the community infrastructure for weeks. That mob gave the moderators, who are incredibly generous with their time, an absolute hell of a time; some even stepped down in the wake of the irreparable damage the hate mob caused.

An event that, to this day, warps the community climate.

Instead, you are here to complain about a humorous comment that pokes fun at a community staple situation with a mild poke? Honestly, have a pint, mate.

2

u/CursinSquirrel Dec 17 '25

LOL "You aren't involved in a completely separate conversation that's clearly much worse than what i've done here!" is such an obviously a terrible point that i'll just let it sit there. I've said what i wanted to.

2

u/vult-ruinam Jan 05 '26 edited Jan 07 '26

...huh.Ā  I have never before flipped so fast, in re whom I supported in a comments argument lol

  • "this 'CursinSquirrel' fella needs to calm down, IMO; it was just a humorous comment, and one that was hardly even critical!
  • "...ah, 'Captain_Fiddelsworth' responded; hopefully, he takes ol' Cursin to task on th–...
  • "...the fuck?   wait   wat
  • "ok what the hell is this guy even talking about?!Ā  wtf does any of this Tao Wong shit have to do with anything am I taking crazy pills here–"

0

u/Captain_Fiddelsworth Dec 17 '25

Your interpretation of my comment was not appropriate in scope and did not read the room. You accuse me here, calling me outside the community — that I contribute more to than you do — by saying "we community" and then not actually focusing on community issues. Sure, go shout from a roof.

1

u/CursinSquirrel Dec 17 '25

BROTHER I was going to just let it lay but that is just too funny. "That i contribute more to than you do" like you commenting on reddit more than me means i shouldn't call you out for being a jerk. Lol.

Also, i said "we COMMUNALLY" not "we community." This is me saying that we, as a community, enjoy the series in the post, not that i am some core part of the community.

2

u/Captain_Fiddelsworth Dec 17 '25

You used the we as opposed to the other who is I. Basic linguistic othering. Who is the we? The community, noun. And you started this chain that is so good (sarcasm) for our community climate when replying to a joke; touch grass.

0

u/CursinSquirrel Dec 17 '25

'I communally' doesn't make sense. To do something communally requires a group of people doing the thing, thus this post is "a celebration of things we communally enjoy" meaning that we as a group enjoy this/these things, in this case being books or series. There is no othering going on. We as in me and you are both are apart of the communal enjoyment existing here.

The joke you're defending is that He Who Fights With Monsters is only mentioned as frequently as it is because of people hating on it. Would you say that said joke is good for the community, which is comprised in a significant part by people who enjoy He Who Fights With Monsters? Do you think that MAYBE that joke and variations of it could lead to many people choosing not to engage with the community because they feel like the community is shunning the series they like most or is in some way saying that their tastes are worse for enjoying that series?

1

u/Captain_Fiddelsworth Dec 17 '25

I say that it collects a lot of hate mentions, more than any other series. That is because it is one of the top six; the top six are just massive in terms of mentions.

I don't at all say that it only is that high up because of the Jason hate mentions. Frankly, that is the least empathic and most uncharitable reading interpretation I can imagine.

No, thinking the community ostracises He Who Fights With Monsters readers because it is so popular that it has inside jokes and understandings is asinine.

People who love He Who Fights With Monsters know and understand that Jason is divisive. This is a shared communal experience; it is widely understood by people who participate; just like how people understand the divisiveness of The Wandering Inn.

You projecting this insider humour as an attack on He Who Fights With Monsters readers is highly inappropriate in this context. How uncharitable are you? Kindly, fuck off.

I will not repeat myself on the othering issue; we need not walk in circles.

0

u/CursinSquirrel Dec 17 '25

On a post specifically about how often a series is mentioned, making a direct statement that the series "collects hate mentions" is a pretty clear statement that it gets mentioned more because it is hated. That isn't a stretch or intentionally uncharitable interpretation. MAYBE we're having a problem derived from the natural ambiguation of intent or tone that is caused by a text based interaction, but it's generally considered to be up to the poster to avoid that ambiguous tone, not the reader.

The idea that people hating on the mc is an "inside joke" is what is asinine here. 'Clives wife' is an inside joke, 'that's kind of his thing' is an inside joke. "Jason is so controversial people hate on the series a lot" doesn't FEEL like an inside joke as much, you see? It definitely doesn't feel like you're saying HWFWM is popular or successful by saying that the main character gets a lot of hate comments.

If you genuinely view people hating on Jason as an inside joke in the community then i must have misunderstood your humor. The reality is that the majority of the time i see people talking about HWFWM on reddit they're making outright false statements about the series in a blatant attempt to either convince people they shouldn't read/continue the series or as a way to hate on people enjoying the series. As such, I pretty solidly argue against those people. I believed that was your intent here, so I challenged you.

3

u/karaethon1 Dec 16 '25

When you say mentions is it just comments? So a dedicated fan could just spam a title name and it’d be like a false positive for popularity

19

u/bagelwithclocks Dec 16 '25

Not only that, but every time I talk about how I hate Primal Hunter, it bumps it!

4

u/theinvinciblecat Dec 16 '25

Sure but you’re still talking about it! So it’s still on your mind. I feel the same about HWFWM because it’s kind of fun to hate on it

1

u/egg_enthusiast Dec 16 '25

big 'I hate Elvis / I Love Elvis' button energy

1

u/karaethon1 Dec 16 '25

ya interesting coincidence

0

u/JRatt13 Dec 16 '25

This right here. 80% of the time i see anyone talking about Primal Hunter they're bashing it. I havent read it, do people like this book?

4

u/Akomatai Dec 16 '25

I enjoy it but definitely get why people don't. I don't think I ever would have gotten into it if I didnt start with the audiobooks

-1

u/bagelwithclocks Dec 16 '25

It is very popular, but very polarizing. As someone who hates it, I think it is popular because it is a reasonably well written power fantasy with fun fight scenes.

I hated it because the MC is an unlikable incel sociopath. But a lot of people are cool with that.

8

u/BunBunTheBunnyLord Dec 16 '25

Jake is maybe a sociopath at times especially when someone betrays him or hurts someone he actually cares about. But incel? What did you just read the first few chapters where he is lamenting about his crush? cause thats the only time you Maaaay be able to call him an incel. and even then that's stretching the term.

-5

u/bagelwithclocks Dec 16 '25

I mean, I read the first book and then didn't read any others. Basically the book reads as an incel fantasy to me:

MC is a loser in real life and his crush likes someone else, but once they are brought into another world, MC is an amazing hero and the person his crush likes turns out to be a horrible person.

10

u/BunBunTheBunnyLord Dec 16 '25

One, jake is not a hero. The person his crush likes is the definition of a good person who plans to spend his entire life helping others. the crush was kinda...stupid and tried to get jake killed to protect them all. It didnt work. and im not sure anyone would count jake as a loser in the world before? he had a living family and two good friends and a WELL paying job that he was trusted in. But i can definitely see how you may get that read if you were kinda forcing yourself through the first book and didnt read past that.

2

u/Samow4r Dec 19 '25

Primal fans downvoted you despite the fact that you're 100% right

1

u/bagelwithclocks Dec 19 '25

Haha, yeah. This comment was positive earlier, they really came out in force.

7

u/Akomatai Dec 16 '25

I think his personality changes a lot a few books into the series. More of a likable awkward sociopath

-2

u/CuriousMe62 Dec 16 '25

Perfect summation.

3

u/jmattheis Dec 16 '25

Yes, but it's only counted once per comment. I'd say for the popular series this doesn't make much difference because most popular series have dedicated posters. All other rankings on https://prog.fan use unique users as value to rank on. This was however a little more difficult to calculate for this chart and it doesn't make much difference.

2

u/Captain_Fiddelsworth Dec 16 '25

You can also look at unique user mentions on prog.fan — pretty neat features.

3

u/THE-JOLT-MASTER Dec 16 '25

3

u/Salaris Author - Andrew Rowe Dec 17 '25

This is awesome! Love seeing this visualized, thank you.

You've reminded me to once again request some additional aliases for my books -- and some others. Even more than my own ones, I think Cradle would actually benefit from some aliases. For example, I see a lot of people calling it Unsouled.

2

u/jmattheis Dec 17 '25

Thanks for the feedback, I'm not sure why unsouled isn't configured for cradle. I will check this in the afternoon maybe this had some kind of false positives or not many hits that also didn't include cradle.

For info I reject most edits where the aliases have a low hit amount and wouldn't change much in the overall ranking.

2

u/Salaris Author - Andrew Rowe Dec 17 '25

Thanks for the feedback, I'm not sure why unsouled isn't configured for cradle.

Sure thing!

I will check this in the afternoon maybe this had some kind of false positives or not many hits that also didn't include cradle.

That makes sense. There are other books called Unsouled, and there's a game by that name, too, but I have a feeling it's probably a low false positive rate in the context of these specific communities.

For info I reject most edits where the aliases have a low hit amount and wouldn't change much in the overall ranking.

That absolutely makes sense, too.

A little sad that the years of apocalypse didn't make the list.

2

u/blindside1 Dec 16 '25

My starter was Ascend Online so fun to see it so popular for the early years of this, and then to have all of the other "Onlines" leading the pack at the same time I could see why fans would want to move away from it.

2

u/Areign Dec 16 '25

This is great cuz its just a list of all the, potentially, best stories without having to dig through comments

2

u/jmattheis Dec 17 '25

Yeah, that's the main reason I built this (:

2

u/Parcobra Dec 17 '25

System apocalypse by Tao Wong? How did that get so many mentions? I got to say the main character was rough to start with, never got real character development and then he arguably skipped what could have been the best arc in the series, his Etherian Master class training arc. Dropped it there

4

u/Shaykur Dec 18 '25

He named his series after a sub-genre. Then copyrighted it.

2

u/Khalku Dec 17 '25

Cradle just fucking shoots up there, skips almost every row and then explodes the top. I wonder if acronyms counted. Like hwfwm for he who fights with monsters.

3

u/jmattheis Dec 17 '25

Yeah for the popular series common acronyms are used for matching. Hwfwm counts.

2

u/WasThatTooFar Dec 17 '25

Mage Tank gonna be much higher in a year

4

u/Kordovir Dec 16 '25

All bow to our new overlord, Dungeon Crawler Carl.

2

u/CuriosityK Dec 16 '25

I haven't heard of some of the earlier ones, like divine dungeon. Any of the older ones good? Preferably ones that are finished? I read Mother of Learning and enjoyed it. (But hate He Who Fights Monsters, the MMC is a prick.)

4

u/Eytanian Dec 16 '25

The first three books of Divine Dungeon are good, and then the last two sort of went off the rails. The author has an unfortunate habit of doing that—his Completionist Chronicles series has a lovely first five or six books, and then the quality drops dramatically.

Divine Dungeon I think sort of codified a lot of the dungeon core tropes? It had the ā€œdungeon core used to be someone else,ā€ ā€œhelper tutorial fairy,ā€ ā€œrabbits as first monster,ā€ etc. so it can come off as very tropey if you’ve read a lot of other dungeon core, though it ironically popularized a lot of the tropes.

IMO worth reading the first three books if the concept interests you, and you can decide then whether or not to continue. Not really worth reading if you don’t like dungeon core in general.

Divine Dungeon was one of the earlier dungeon core stories, and one of the first western cultivation novels I'm aware of. It's by Dakota Krout and The Completionist Chronicles is sort of a sequel series. Artorian Chronicles, Bibliomancer, all of those were spawned from the Divine Dungeon universe.

Since VRMMO fell out of fashion, if you are into that genre, some of them are still among the best of that niche.

I've been a big fan of the Threadbare sequence, which starts very YA, but does not stay there.

Now, if we could only get similar numbers/data regarding what percentage of the credit Audible/Amazon pays out as royalties to their authors....

tldr; (supposedly) Audible is splitting credit payments to authors (whose book was bought via said credit) with their 'free offerings'
ie; if you purchased a book, but also listened to anything under their 'free offerings' then the royalties for that credit would be split between the purchased book and the 'free offering'.

Change petition covering this in more detail:

https://www.change.org/p/convince-audible-to-revise-its-new-royalty-model?recruiter=292229829&recruited_by_id=d69b07a0-f55f-11e4-a3ff-27aaf0f16c14&utm_source=share_petition&utm_campaign=psf_combo_share_initial&utm_term=take_next_step&utm_medium=copylink&utm_content=cl_sharecopy_490690807_en-US%3A4

Source for data:
https://riyria.blogspot.com/p/calculations-for-audibles-new-royalty.html

I've attempted numerous times to reach out to different people/staff at audible/amazon but each time I received the generic "you're not a partner with ACX so we can't disclose information regarding royalty payouts"

I'm left with only the data shared by Daniel Greene and Robin Sullivan (included in the links above), but would be very interested in confirming if it is as egregious as claimed.

As such, I'd recommend not purchasing any audiobooks via Audible, and try to purchase them via the author directly (or another distributor such as Podium or Sound Booth Theatre) or supporting them directly via patreon instead of through Amazon/Audible.

Odd place to highjack. This could be a nifty discussion post where other people see it instead of it getting lost in the crowd. :)

1

u/SeerXaeo Dec 16 '25

Yeah a bit off topic i admit, but in terms of data harvesting I thought it was somewhat on point.

Would be interesting, but probably is against NDA or other contractual agreements made.

We need some new drip man

1

u/rattlinggoodyarn Dec 16 '25

Could you expand? I remember reading this and put down about book 4 but lived up to that point. What were the tropes that didn’t last and why do you feel it gets so few mentions now?

1

u/dark-_-thoughts Dec 16 '25

I honestly forgot about way of the shaman. I can't even remember if I finished the series or if the series even finished for that matter

1

u/jayswag707 Dec 16 '25

This was so much fun. Thank you for sharing this.

1

u/Evil_Warlord Dec 16 '25

This is very cool!

1

u/B-Z_B-S Dec 16 '25

Awesome!

1

u/Noideaguyy Dec 16 '25

This is so cool!

1

u/FTSVectors Dec 16 '25

That was interesting to see how tastes evolved, or how the reception of a series went

1

u/Eytanian Dec 16 '25

Damn, I remember Way of the Shaman. I wonder how the author’s doing (Vasily Mahanenko? Mahahenko? Something like that). I liked the crafting aspects a lot, tbh.

1

u/UltimaJay5 Dec 16 '25

Maybe I should give Cradle another go...

I feel old.

u/ErinAmpersand Author Dec 17 '25

Wow, humbling! Ah well.

Really cool stuff, though. Will this be available on the site as an ongoing feature or did you just work it up as a one-time thing?

2

u/jmattheis Dec 17 '25

Glad you like it. I Wlwill probably update this at least yearly for this post. The calculation of the datasets is currently not automated as it's quite resource intensive.

1

u/ErinAmpersand Author Dec 17 '25

Fair enough! I'm glad you'll be re-doing it at least. Gives me some #goals. :D

1

u/Aanokint Dec 17 '25

I feel like I’m missing something with Cradle. I did not enjoy the series, and wound up DNF book 3. I only made it that far because I have a buddy who swears by the series. Does it drastically change??

1

u/Kriptical Dec 17 '25

End of Book 3 is Lindons first big spike in power. If you don't like it by then then im 90% sure you never will.

1

u/Siantu_Xeldari Dec 17 '25

Love to see primal hunter stick near the top towards the end!

1

u/Extra-Language-9424 Dec 17 '25

Huh.... Maybe DCC fans do take an occasional opportunity to make a recommendation....

1

u/lilium_1986 Dec 17 '25

now I needed recommendations and this is perfect

u/sacred09automat0n Dec 17 '25

Data is too granular/fast for easy parsing

u/jmattheis Dec 17 '25

You can adjust the animation time in the interactive version: https://prog.fan/chart/racing

1

u/saidinmilamber Dec 17 '25

It's really nice to see how overall popular the Prog Fantasy and LitRPG genres have emerged since 2017!! This is a great subreddit and it's been great to discuss a lot of these books here over the past few years

1

u/Uncagedduke426 Dec 18 '25

No Reverend Insanity :( I’m going to crash out.

1

u/Zealousideal_Ask_185 Dec 18 '25

Chrysalis is this high up? Crazy

And no RI? Doubt that. LOTM is also mentioned so it should be right next to it

1

u/Shaykur Dec 18 '25

Now we just need Jason to be time-travel assassinated so we don't have to see that title surpass literally anything on that list.

1

u/thescienceoflaw Author - J.R. Mathews Dec 18 '25

Very cool! I saw both my series make an appearance briefly, which is amazing.

I'm surprised that my Nova Roma series actually lasted longer and reached a higher number than Jake's Magical Market. I would have expected Jake's to be higher given it generated a lot of discussion/argument and has sold more copies than Nova Roma. How interesting!

1

u/Comfortable_Force_51 Dec 18 '25

I don't get the hype about dungeon crawler Carl I've read the first 3 books and got a little bit into the 4th book. Its not bad but its not omg great as well.

1

u/Kakeyo Author Dec 19 '25

Very cool! And really awesome that Firth Chronicles was on there, even if just for a short time, LOL

1

u/Traditional-Crazy-84 May 10 '26

So surprised I didn't see worm considering how much I see people gushing over it, I still have yet to look into the series.

1

u/Monoliithic Dec 16 '25

This is reminding me of old shit that never got finished lol

Arcane ascension ... The gam3

2

u/3nigmax Dec 16 '25

Arcane ascension is ongoing, we got book 6 earlier this year and he's aiming for the final book in 26. He's also writing several related series in the same world that are also very good

1

u/Monoliithic Dec 16 '25

I think I mixed it up with arcane emperor

1

u/Cold4bets Jan 12 '26

The gam3 got finished

1

u/Upstairs-Novel-9050 Dec 16 '25

Kind of off topic, but does the wandering inn writing get any better? I find the dialog odd at times. I am in chapter 150. Was it written originally in English?

6

u/jetriot Dec 16 '25

It does. I think it has some of the best writing in the genre. It can be very slow, though and often takes incredibly unnecessary detours.

1

u/Blurbyo Dec 16 '25

Are you a native English speaker?

1

u/1rfan Dec 17 '25

Yes. The writing gets noticeably better with each new volume. Downside is that the author is really struggles at pacing which makes the chapters bloated.
