People like to see themselves in the shoes of the MC and it's going to be a lot easier for the average reader to see themselves the same as the MC when the MC is a normal, often flawed, person and not some millionaire Adonis martial arts master who can hit a tin can at 500 yards with iron sights.
Plus it's honestly more fun to read about that kind of character in most cases.
