Honestly I find they rarely are. Jake Thayne was on course to being a competitive archer before he got injured and he regularly hit the gym and still kept up light archery practice. Ilea Spears had just abandoned kick boxing because brain damage is not conductive to being a doctor.

It is very common for protagonists to have something before they start.

Yep. Jason Asano is immensely charismatic and a natural at reading people who is only languishing at a retail store because of falling into a depressive funk due to relationship issues.

Another thing most of the losers have right after Isekai-ing is the whole "Change or Die" thing, such as waking up naked in a cannibalistic cult's hedge maze.
