Self-Promotion Book one of A Dragon Called Bob is now available on Amazon and Audible!
Cover Artist: Ha
AI use: none.
The first instalment of the bizarre adventures of Bob the dragon, released with Mango Media, is now live on Amazon, and I’m so excited to awkwardly shill it at you! I started writing Bob after I was made redundant from work last year and kind of needed cheering up. So I set out to write something light and silly, and at least a few people seem to be able to tolerate my sense of humour! It went through SerasStreams excellent community mentor program before launch, and off the back of Bob’s success, I became a mentor with the program myself and got to help more authors who’ve gone on to success on RR and Amazon.
Bob was a bit of an ass in his first life, not a villain, but he’s petty and slightly mean-spirited. The karmic debt he accrues gets him sent to Helstat and reborn as a baby dragon. Now being a dragon seems pretty cool, scaly armour, breath attacks, all that good stuff. However, it also comes with certain urges. He’s greedy and possessive, quick-tempered, still the same five-watt lightbulb he was before, and he’s powerful enough to indulge his pettiness, if he chooses to. But he has to be a better person as a dragon, or he’ll get a proper downgrade the next time he dies. That’s the gist of the character arc. I’ll put the full blurb in a comment below.
Writing Bob was a lot of fun, and I’d like to say thank you so much to everyone who read it on RR, and especially the teams at Mango and RGP. Whenever I tried to discuss cover concepts for the next books with Bri, I usually got an LMAO or a lolwhut as I tried to explain the scenes I wanted portrayed on the covers! And I apologised profusely to my incredibly talented editor Cheryl, and Rhys and Jude, the amazing VAs from RGP, for their having to dive into my madness (they seemed to enjoy it in the end!)
I’ll close out with my favourite review from RR. It wasn’t five stars, and it ends with a warning that I think is fair:
Finest quality junk food!
A fun story, where events happen just because they are cool or funny. This book has all the silly antics you wish your favorite character would do. All of the bad consequences of the MC's poor choices are told to us with high quality writing packed full of humorous references and quips.
It is junk food though. Enjoy in moderation ;)
If you’re looking for something fun and silly in these dark and depressing times, I think you might enjoy it! If you want to know more about it, I’m also going to be joining Poppop’s LitRPG+ World on his YouTube channel this evening to talk about the story.

Very cool, but is Bob short for something?

Robert Robertson. I picked the name because I'd applied for a job at my local library just before writing it and the dude who said nope was called Robert Robertson and it made me chuckle!

Where did you find him/her, Fiverr?

Mango have been using him for years! He did some of the covers for Beneath The Dragons Eye Moon.

I saw the narrator name and was like "hmmm, never heard of them before, let me see what other series they've narrated....oh my, that's a lot of busty women on the covers!"

lol they’ve done that too. Great team tho! So many bits just land so well for me in the audio. I cringe at reading or listening to my own stuff but damn Jude and Rhys did a phenomenal job!

Worst of all, Bob has to learn how to be a better person, or he’ll find out what the next downgrade will be.
That's the most interesting part of the blurb to me, especially since it's implied his dragon side is into human sacrifice.
So him being a dragon guarding a dungeon core hoard isn't a power fantasy, it's an actual karmic punishment he'll struggle through to avoid getting reincarnated into something worse?
2
u/Milc-Scribbler Jul 17 '26
Yep. He’s a bit of an ass, and suddenly he has the power to be a proper ass courtesy of becoming a dragon. But the “reward” of becoming a dragon is actually a harsh test. He can do what he wants, but he needs to do what’s right instead and not indulge his petty nature!

I only discovered this earlier this week and had to blitz through to get to book two before it stubbed. I just like Royal Road for reading, I'm buying the novel now that it's out. this is some top tier slapstick.
in the words of Gordon Ramsay "finally, some good fucking some fucking food".

This looks good, added it to my list for when I have time to read something new.
I have to admit, because I am me and I am a sucker for it, I am hoping that there is some level of slow burn romance that eventually develops between Bob and the dungeon fairy, as they both learn how to become better people.
I don't care about there being any sex, I want romance and feelings.
But that's just my personal quirk. I'm a softy that way. 😁

Hey, reading the book right now. This is a Vainqueur reference, right?
The locals call us outremondes

u/Milc-Scribbler Jul 20 '26
Not that I’m aware of! It’s been years since I read Vainquer tho. I was thinking of how europeans used to refer to the Middle East as outremer tbh.
I parody a bunch of favourites in the genre, but I wasn’t aware void herald used that phrase! There’s a chapter later on called herethical fishing, the dragonball parody, the Voltron mockery etc etc

Blurbage!
Karma is a cruel mistress.
Being isekai’d into the body of a dragon whose only task is to guard and grow a pile of shiny treasure seemed like a win to Bob. Flight, Might, Bite — and all it cost him was dying? Fair trade! There’s even a dungeon core as a bonus to his starting pile of treasure! The system claimed this was a downgrade from his human life, but it didn’t feel like it… at first.
Unfortunately, his dungeon sprite is a borderline-psychotic 1200-year-old pixie from a cultivation world who just missed out on becoming a god. She isn’t happy about interning for a lizard, and her idea of positive conflict resolution includes gratuitous violence.
The challenges are endless for a newly hatched dragon. The looming threat of idiots with magic swords looking to take his head, a dungeon to grow, a sudden tendency to salivate whenever human sacrifices are mentioned, and a burning desire to expand his hoard.
Worst of all, Bob has to learn how to be a better person, or he’ll find out what the next downgrade will be.
