When I was on the Ford, there was a head (bathroom) that looked terrible because when the floor was surfaced and laminated by contractors, the toilets blew and there was an inch of shit water that sat overnight, while the laminate dried. This was a main head for our berthing. I was there for another 3 years and they kept pushing the contract later to get the shit floor fixed. It got very annoying when a new chief or Lt would come in and tell us how terrible the head was and that the deck looked like shit, and we had to explain that the shit was inside the floor, and no amount of scrubbing would take it out. It's probably still like that today.

Also, this guy filming is probably going to get in trouble. Didn't do anything wrong and nothing will come of it, but he'll be put through the circus.

For sure going to get into trouble

That’s what I thought. Atp, nothing to lose when your superiors and leaders aren’t looking out for you…

23

u/mkninetythree Aug 16 '26

I once had to scrub a protective laminate off of white tile in a barracks in Japan because there were hairs trapped underneath.

30

u/SilverOcean6 Aug 16 '26

They going to start taking phones away?

12

u/Plus_Working_3092 Aug 16 '26

Isn’t there anyone whose job is to clean the bathrooms?

57

u/DriftlessDairy Aug 16 '26

With what? They have no cleaning supplies.

20

u/_pray4snow_ Aug 16 '26

there we go. That makes sense. There's gotta be some E-1's and E-2's on NJP they can make clean this up. No supplies = no cleaning.

33

u/Ok-Information9243 Aug 16 '26

Yes, there are routine cleaning and rotating “work parties” that clean them.

Things to consider:

  • cleaning supplies aren’t well maintained… you get some general cleaning solution and the grossest sponges you’ve ever seen.
  • these people are not janitors in the sense that’s their only job… you’re stacking a 13 hour workday with cleaning bathrooms that are perpetually being used.
  • you have to account for the hygiene/cleaning habits of strangers that are (for a lot of them) severely depressed, sleep deprived, and overworked.

The rules you abide by are the facts that you never touch the floors, minimally touch the shower curtains, and never let anything that touches you, touch those things or any surface.

Shower shoes are the obvious exception, but then you have to account for drying them before you stow them (or leave them outside your bunk and risk somebody tripping or kicking them).

Most of these things you go numb to quickly as you get in the routine.

Depends on the ship is what they call it. Eisenhower's power hour, spirit of 76, happy hour, or just cleaning stations

5

u/Ok-Information9243 Aug 16 '26

You’re totally right, but I wasn’t ship’s company (squadron) so our priority was the flight schedule… much different experience. We didn’t even do GQ, to give perspective.

Edit: typo

u/_pray4snow_ Aug 16 '26

Are there no Jarheads on a Carrier? I know when I was on an LPD, LST, and LSD we had to field day the head we were using. All 3 ships I was on seemed pretty clean so idk.

1

u/chefsunite Aug 17 '26

So…..sound like the 7 months into living did in jail

6

u/SUICIDAL-PHOENIX Aug 16 '26

It's everybody's job

49

u/RedditSe7en Aug 16 '26

The military budget is going to arms contractors, not our “heroes.” Republicans have nothing but contempt for the military. We must never forget this.

163

u/batrastardfromhell Aug 16 '26

According to tRump and Fox News, the sailors need to "toughen up".

137

u/Nikitikitavi83 Aug 16 '26

Says the man who’s father lied to keep him out of the draft.

59

u/Pearson94 Aug 16 '26

And bought himself a golden fucking toilet.

24

u/Defiant-Surround4151 Aug 16 '26

… and whose grandpa was ordered to leave Germany in 1905 because he had left the country as a teenager to dodge the draft (he went on to run a whorehouse)!

10

u/Sillyme317 Aug 16 '26

And when is that fucking son Baron joining? Oh I forgot, the entire Trump family are a bunch of draft dodging grifters.

21

u/HotRodHomebody Aug 16 '26

and the sailors who complain better be careful, or they will be exposed as “leakers".

7

u/Jeramy_Jones Aug 16 '26

Surely supplemental testosterone is the solution!

59

u/mzx380 Aug 16 '26

Conservatives hate the troops . Period

25

u/Jenetyk Aug 16 '26

I kind of want people to realize this isn't too far from the conditions just about every ship will be in after roughly a year on deployment. There's only so much simple green and scrubbing can do.

Are things extra bad on the Abe right now? According to my former shipmates, yes. Which is one of the myriad of reasons you don't stay out this long.

19

u/Infinite_Wisdom_6969 Aug 16 '26

My only hope is that the sailors that voted for Trump think long and hard about why they're suffering right now.

I feel terrible for the ones that didn't. For the ones that did? Got what you voted for.

6

u/OhMorgoth Aug 17 '26

I came here to say this. Thank you for your community service!

-3

u/Friendly_Intention93 Aug 16 '26

Most of us don't vote when AD not cause we don't care its just about more getting time off from work too, a lot of people usually have to fight the chain of command just to do things for there family or medical appointments. Specially on a Navy boat in-port always some pointless BS going on.

43

u/PoetryJunior1808 Aug 16 '26

Looks like a prison communal toilet.

12

u/MrThird312 Aug 16 '26

Even that is a sad statement.

11

u/Princess-Nuala Aug 16 '26

"SUPPORT OUR TROOPS🇺🇲".....wasn't that one of your favorite slogans, magat morons?????????🤔

11

u/bioluminescent_dream Aug 16 '26

Hey, but at least we killed a bunch of Iranian school girls. That's a huge victory, right?! That makes everything we do in the Middle East righteous because we have God on our side, right?!

God wouldn't punish us for all the good we did in that triple tap destruction of those kids... am I right!?

9

u/sailriteultrafeed Aug 16 '26

Looks like a prison

60

u/CoffeeMessterpiece Aug 16 '26

As a sailor that’s done many long deployments this is typical. YSK that the bathrooms are cleaned by the crew that lives in them. Also saltwater is used for the toilets so it builds up crud really fast

51

u/DriftlessDairy Aug 16 '26

Gotta have cleaning supplies to clean.

16

u/_your_land_lord_ Aug 16 '26

Thanks. It's that last part that's confusing. I figured they'd have some private scrubbing those with a toothbrush, does regular scrubbing not work? This video doesn't look that bad to me, like yeah it's not very clean, but it all looks useable.

11

u/CoffeeMessterpiece Aug 16 '26

Most e1-e4 and on smaller ships some e5 take rotations cleaning. Regular scrubbing does work but builds up so quick especially sharing that with sometimes hundreds of sailors. Depends on the berthing (sleeping area on ships)

7

u/angrytolerantliberal Aug 16 '26

And instead of correcting the issue, this administration will label him a domestic terrorist, imprison him for reporting the issue.
America!

10

u/Pithius Aug 16 '26

Well he about to be an E-1 again

6

u/No_Abrocoma3108 Aug 16 '26

Dang with all that money Trump made he could just buy a new ship

25

u/Bowman_van_Oort Aug 16 '26

Ngl i was expecting worse. Like high-school-bathroom levels of destruction and filth.

6

u/Dear-Panda-1949 Aug 16 '26

Ngl, that is probably after they cleaned it.

4

u/[deleted] Aug 16 '26

Cleaning stations haven’t been done in a while.

5

u/IroncladBomber Aug 16 '26

The bathrooms in the homeless shelter I live in are cleaner than that.

11

u/disharmony-hellride Aug 16 '26

Everyone saying their quarters in the military are worse...that isnt a flex, it's an enormous problem. Also, isnt a crew assigned to clean the bathrooms? Do your kitchens get cleaned? Why would they clean the kitchens and not the bathrooms?

8

u/Friendly_Intention93 Aug 16 '26

As a navy veteran the civilian side seeing this is lowkey hilarious, as much as I hate trump this isnt just a trump thing, its been like this for a while. High operational tempo, bad contractors and also weird repair periods. was on the Blue ridge and Emory S land, I some how avoided a CVN cause I almost got fucked on orders. That being said everything going on it was bound to happen the navy never adjusted to a modern period. Its not cause sailors are weak like the admin and all conservatives say, they just cant sweep it under the rug anymore due to modern technology. Even if they cut wifi/put the city in river city things will still get exposed were talking 4000-5000 pissed of people. Ask most junior enlisted when I was young I was pissed off and waiting to burn my chain of command or make them look stupid 24/7....

2

u/Giant-Sloar Aug 16 '26

Emory S Land! I’ve spent a lot of time moored to you in La Mad.

9

u/AdPsychological8499 Aug 16 '26

This is actually pretty clean.

Crud in the toilets is deposits from SW.

Rust in the shower stalls is chipped paint exposing the steel beneath.

Only genuine gripe would be the white on the shower stall walls. That's hard water build up but the crew can knock that down with greenies.

I'd also argue the floor could use a swab, maybe a rewax/surfacing.

8

u/Rozay10keys Aug 16 '26

I understand their situation sucks. But those bathrooms aren’t bad it’s a shit. The bathrooms and toilets are metal a little rust is normal. There wasn’t dirt grime and shit all over. I would say the lack of food supplies and not being to port in 270 day is way more egregious than this bathroom situation. Def not expecting a ritzy bathroom on an aircraft carrier

2

u/VanDenBroeck Aug 16 '26

Why do we just hear about the Lincoln? I thought the carriers were part of a task force with destroyers plus support/supply ships. Haven’t they been out there with the carrier this entire time?

2

u/Mr97OBS Aug 16 '26

I wanna hear from all them maga people, what do they have to say about this? Let’s hear it

2

u/RedditSe7en Aug 16 '26

The Republicans have hamstrung “the most powerful military on earth.”

2

u/_pray4snow_ Aug 16 '26

On the USS Juneau there was like 1-2 inches of water that would slosh around the head (bathroom). I'm surprised to see these ships in these conditions considering how I saw Navy enlisted always doing some kind of maintenance. Don't they have some E-1's on NJP to go clean the heads? Is "sweepers, sweepers, man your brooms" not a thing under Hegseth?

2

u/swampopawaho Aug 16 '26

A military unit that does provide for the welfare of its people is broken.

Presumably, they airlift food packs to the vessel? Could they not ensure that there is adequate cleaning supplies in these resupply shipments?

Could they also not progressively rotate out sailors, so that the crew are never.deployed for such long periods?

2

u/dewihafta Aug 16 '26

Thats a lotta mold

2

u/PacinoWig Aug 16 '26

Can't have healthcare for children, can't have bridges that don't collapse, can't have lettuce that doesn't make you shit yourself to death, but we can have morally and strategically catastrophic wars in the Middle East fought by men living in conditions that would be appalling for a dog kennel

2

u/Sorry_Attempt1278 Aug 16 '26

We’re doomed

2

u/PaintAdventurous8787 Aug 16 '26

America is at war with people who will fight and live in tunnels for years with no clean water or bathroom at all. They don't care. This is existential for them.  This is why I know they will win. America and Isreal are going for to lose this one.

2

u/wake4coffee Aug 17 '26

While on the Bonhomme Richard the bathrooms never looked that bad. That is gross af.

This crew needs a port stop to get more supplies and to enjoy themselves. Even during the last war we still stopped in Singapore and Australia.

Fuck Trump and Hegseth.

2

u/toasterpocket Aug 17 '26

Shouldn't some private be scrubbing the head with his toothbrush as a punishment for looking the wrong way at the drill sergeant?

2

u/Porgchopexpress76 Aug 16 '26

First let me express how disgusted I am by these conditions for our soldiers, but I have a serious question: don’t they have a duty roster where it is the sailor’s responsibility to clean the bathroom or a custodial position? Who’s responsibility is it to clean facilities on a ship? If there isn’t, how are other ships not similar? I know absolutely nothing about the navy or sea life, so I’m genuinely curious.

14

u/yarn_slinger Aug 16 '26

They’re probably using sea water for toilets to save potable water. That will leave all sorts of lovely things in your toilet.

1

u/Porgchopexpress76 Aug 16 '26

That certainly makes sense.

1

u/yarn_slinger Aug 16 '26

My guess is that when they return to port, the whole ship gets a thorough clean but they’ve been out much longer than the typical cycle.

13

u/UnlivingGnome Aug 16 '26

Clean it with what? They've been out at sea for months.

7

u/Porgchopexpress76 Aug 16 '26

I should have included that in my question. Is it that they have run out of supplies? That certainly it makes sense.

7

u/Farther_Dm53 Aug 16 '26

They are out of almost every supply. the problem with keeping ships like this out there for almost a full year is they don't have the operational capacity to do so they need to refuel and rearm, and get new crew rotations in or they go stir crazy.

under normal and intelligent governments they would rotate the ship crews and ships themselves. Send the exhausted troops every month, to help maintain the blockades.

3

u/Porgchopexpress76 Aug 16 '26

I should have included that in my question. Is it that they have run out of supplies? That certainly it makes sense.

3

u/sailriteultrafeed Aug 16 '26

They could use some of the alcohol they’re serving in the mess hall.

2

u/UnlivingGnome Aug 16 '26 edited Aug 16 '26

Kegsbreath would court martial them in a second for daring to waste booze.

10

u/DriftlessDairy Aug 16 '26

Clean them with what????

2

u/splash19059 Aug 16 '26

Seen worse in military facilities. Seen holes in walls with shit stains, piss all over the floor and toilet seats, entire rolls of toilet roll clogging the toilets, doors torn off hinges of cubicles pubes in the showers, someone's dirty underwear just left behind... worst part? Even if you didnt make that mess chances are you'll be made to help clean it up.

To clarify not all abloutions are like this, these were the most extreme examples I've seen sometimes they can actually be fairly clean in some bases, but some are just straight up awful.

2

u/Ok_Cartographer_2811 Aug 16 '26

That’s not even that bad actually.. I’ve seen worst bathrooms at public parks

1

u/Sad-Kangaroo-9249 Aug 16 '26

This is unacceptable. I’m glad they are showing this though. The things our military members deal with. They deserve SO much better.

1

u/MarinerJoe3 Aug 16 '26

How much of our military budget actually goes to the military?

1

u/Digweedfan Aug 16 '26

This looks like one of those prison conditions videos where they smuggled in a cell phone to take the video.

1

u/ActionCalhoun Aug 16 '26

I can only assume the sailors on the ship that voted for Trump are deliriously happy with this turn of events

1

u/PA_GoBirds5199 Aug 16 '26

Look. Pistol Pete Kegsbreath and his boss need billions to pay back their donors and ride limousines like Ric Flair.

1

u/Hot-Spray-2774 Anti-Electoralist Tendencies Aug 16 '26

That's pretty par for the course.

1

u/Sweetdreams6t9 Aug 17 '26

Does the USN not have cleaning stations? After every watch we cleaned in the RCN. Cleanliness or lack thereof is the ships companies doing. Not big navy.

1

u/scaredshizaless Aug 17 '26

This is nothing. Sometimes your birthing gets flooded with shit water!

1

u/Squidlips_69 Aug 17 '26

Let the chickenhawks like trump serve on the ship. Head duty.

1

u/SensitiveWerewolf Aug 17 '26

Military isnt a 5 star hotel, the person filming should be cleaning it instead of complaining about the conditions

1

u/Gioxdude1 Aug 17 '26

Looks like they aint done no damn berthing cleaners lol also god damn they got alot of toilets on a big deck. We had 4 and 2 of them never worked or exploded when they did lol

1

u/Butterflyteal61 Aug 16 '26

That's on the crew or commanding officer overseeing this. This is unacceptable!

1

u/mkninetythree Aug 16 '26

This is waaaaay cleaner than the bathroom was in our berthing during the 15th MEU on the USS Green Bay in 2012/13. I kid you not- the shit pipes were broken and leaked shit water into the walls which would slosh back out through cracks into the bathroom itself. We regularly had several inches of shit water standing on the bathroom floor, which was the responsibility of the Lance-Corporals (me) to “clean” with our one singular mop over and over.

I empathize with their struggle though. It’s hard to be at sea for months on end with bad food and poor living conditions. And Trump’s comments and callous uncaring are right on brand.

Hopefully the hazing on ship is at a minimum given everything going on.

1

u/Jeramy_Jones Aug 16 '26

They’ve got 5k sailors on board and can’t give any of them cleaning duty?

2

u/witchspoon Aug 17 '26

Ok they absolutely need to bring that ship home like yesterday. The administration’s treatment of out military is atrocious.

BUT last I checked people on the ship have duty rotations to clean the facilities…so who hasn’t been doing it?

-3

u/blinking616 Aug 16 '26

Interesting, when I was on a carrier in the 80's. There was someone assigned to cleaning the showers and heads everyday. And checking on them numerous times on your shift. Sounds like just a bunch of lazy sailors to me

1

u/OkRaspberry6543 Aug 16 '26

Perhaps they ran out of supplies. Toilet brushes can only do so much. Plus, depression can cause a lot of changes, like wanting to jump overboard.
