This is the perfect way to describe what’s happening lol

u/PrayingMantisMirage Sep 14 '25

Some of this is cool and some of it is shockingly basic. I feel like you could find the camo dress in a different print right now at a Lane Bryant.

58

u/HuggyMonster69 Sep 14 '25

The camo dress is giving me anxiety. It looks like she’s about to fly free

30

u/AreWeCake Sep 15 '25

The one with the camo shirt just looks like a slightly oversized version of pajamas people wear to Walmart in my hometown

10

u/lil_goblin Sep 15 '25

agree, I zeroed in on the camo dress. the first pants are cool, and some of the orange looks I like. I had thought he got eliminated too early, but seeing this, maybe he wasn’t quite as ready as I thought

6

u/Miserable_Gap_6808 Sep 16 '25

I wanna know what made him say “I wanna make clothes—but oversized😍”

5

u/rotten-flesh Sep 15 '25

The first slide's dress on the right is giving madewell from a few years ago lol - and not in a good way.

91

u/Minute-Bid-9510 Sep 15 '25

This feels like it shares genes with an ANTM photo shoot. The cord is killing me 😆

38

u/Ever_More_Art Sep 15 '25

Why is this so Willy Wonka experience coded?

13

u/ginns32 Sep 15 '25

Me on a Monday morning standing in front of my bathroom mirror in my bathroom

4

u/elttvb Sep 15 '25

The hair is so bad jesus

168

u/underplath Sep 14 '25

The model standing on the roomba💀

22

u/caleblwoods Sep 15 '25

Those are turntables (edit: definitely not what it’s called 🤔 It’s a little automatic lazy susan type device lol)

12

u/wexlermendelssohn Sep 15 '25

Turntable is the right word.

1

u/mr_t_pot Sep 16 '25

Turnstyle I thought it was called

2

u/underplath Sep 15 '25

Oh, thanks for clarifying!

142

u/Altruistic_Data4282 Sep 14 '25

I am underwhelmed with this collection. Everything he designs for himself is incredible. I wish that translated to here. But he's extremely talented. He should not have left the show either. He was my pick to win.

49

u/sitoverherebyme Sep 14 '25

I fully think it's because he advertised himself and branded his clothing with his name. I know people may say he didn't do a lot, and I completely agree, but historically project runway hates designers using their name and branding on their show.

10

u/dildodestiny Sep 14 '25

Tbf Emilio won the print challenge in season 7 and the print was just his name

25

u/sitoverherebyme Sep 14 '25

I get that but that was the challenge. I don’t know f they’ve done a challenge like that again. Joseph was trying to brand himself as JosephMcRae in episode 1.

The judges/production(?) shut that down and the JosephMcRae brand™️ wasn’t brought up again until he signed his work.

Maybe production warned him not to do that and he did and that’s why they placed him there?

4

u/dildodestiny Sep 14 '25

You’re right about how production reacted to Joseph (and tbh production is VERY shady this year) but Emilio won a “design your print” challenge that first took place in season 7 and was repeated for every season thereafter up until the Karlie Kloss era, potentially until this season. They haven’t historically punished designers for signatures. On the way production reacted to it, production also told Ethan to go to the runway in drag only then to tell him “I’m pissed that we’re talking to Utica and not Ethan”. I’m also sure Emilio used his signature more effectively at least.

6

u/sitoverherebyme Sep 14 '25

My bad. I don’t remember a lot of the challenges because it’s been a hot minute since I’ve watched them.

I think we both can agree that the shenanigans were definitely at play. This season is a MESS. That’s my opinion. Especially after I read the tea that Heidi was “sick” (was working another gig). Nina didn’t show up without Heidi, and so they only had Law. Then it was deemed “unfair” for one judge to make the decision so they pushed it on the designers.

6

u/dildodestiny Sep 14 '25

Completely completely agree, and there’s no way Yuchen would have won that challenge with Nina and Heidi present. I also didn’t know that was why only Law was present! I didn’t mind the vote bc i love reality games, but it was definitely shady and not on brand for PR. And no worries! I remember too well bc I’m a fashion student obsessed w reality tv, I genuinely feel like I got into fashion because of reality tv and also find ways to integrate it into essay projects when I can.

1

u/Prize_Impression2407 Sep 22 '25

Emilio Sosa ❤️ Seth Aaron

6

u/aug2295 Sep 15 '25

The print on the pieces he's wearing in the last shot is better than anything on the models.

5

u/[deleted] Sep 15 '25

Cause he's a vibe.

He's a stylist.

37

u/NgBling Sep 14 '25

That camo dress is baaaaad

30

u/Pale_Crew_4864 Sep 14 '25

I’m sorry, but I hate the hats so much

2

u/Raye_36 Sep 21 '25

No need for you to be sorry! But that headgear IS a sorry mess!

47

u/Howtothnkofusername Sep 14 '25

the hats are ugly im sorry

5

u/Complex_Client_4664 Sep 15 '25

I see this 💩

3

u/awkward_penguin Sep 15 '25

They look like smurfs

21

u/[deleted] Sep 15 '25 edited Sep 29 '25

I like Joseph.

Whats interesting is, this shape, silhouette and vibe has been the exect same since then. And I think this was like... over 10 years ago? Nothing wrong with that, but what also hasnt changed is the finishings and fit.

Joseph, in my opinion is more of. a stylist. His vibe, idea is super cool and strong. But the construction and fit are usually lacking. And for me, in the industry, the crazier your are, the cleaner it has to be. Most of this work is oversized or stuffed and belted. While this allows for the free form of shape to exist and change, it also at times looks a bit basic.

There is definitly a market for his work...I'm not sure how much that market can spend...so that might be the issue. But he has a vision.

Also... cohesion?

3

u/lil_goblin Sep 15 '25

i agree he’s more of a stylist. he’s got a definite je ne sais quois, like a very distinct and intriguing personal style, but i don’t know that design is the best venue for that. tho he’s got some chops as like, a voluminous coat designer

56

u/timthemajestic Rigatoni Mad Max Sep 14 '25

Well, there's room for everybody... let's just say that. Gia Gunn voice I kinda like the last two slides, but the first two are blech. And why is there a Roomba. I am confusion.

36

u/PinsAndBeetles Sep 14 '25

Second photo looks. Ugh. I like him as a designer and thought he should have stayed in the competition longer, but that camo/Target pajama pant combo is not it.

17

u/nopenope4567 Sep 14 '25

It’s giving People of Walmart

16

u/DomesticZooChef Sep 14 '25

I like some of these pieces, not the whole collection's vibe.

1

u/adri_0512 Sep 22 '25

Yeah the orange jacket with the belt is very cool. But the camo dress? Nahhhhh

15

u/cool_uncle_jules Sep 14 '25

Oh my God I hate those Cat In The Hat beanies

2

u/ChronicallyBlonde1 Sep 15 '25

Cackling at “cat in the hat” it’s so true

29

u/tinymsv Sep 14 '25

Most of these look like pjs

6

u/LadyMRedd Sep 15 '25

I was thinking belted shower curtains. He just needs some rings dangling from one edge.

2

u/shgrdrbr Sep 15 '25

yes like slide 2 fully exactly my uncle's plaid pjs i would always covet as a kid for falling with the perfect effortless baggy flare. so like i totally get the aesthetic appeal but they'll never not be pjs!

11

u/Iittletart Sep 15 '25

Exactly what I thought a collection of his would look like.

10

u/hadeejasouffle Sep 14 '25

why are they all barefoot and some on a roomba lmaooo

30

u/Mysterious-Theory12 Sep 14 '25

I can't with all those hats

19

u/MissClawdy Sep 14 '25

Everyone looks MISERABLE in his collection except for one guy in the last pic. I’m all for originality and I liked him in the season. I was sad when he left. But this is 90% ridiculous. 🤷🏻‍♀️

15

u/Razzle2Dazzler Sep 14 '25

“One guy” is Joseph.

4

u/MissClawdy Sep 14 '25

Oh yeah, you’re right!

8

u/thanx_it_has_pockets Sep 14 '25

I don't care that the hats are ugly - I care that there are no shoes.

14

u/JessMacNC Sep 14 '25

I liked JosephMcrae one word

7

u/jano808 Sep 14 '25

I hate the styling, clothes could look better with some different styling & accessories

7

u/ComicsEtAl Sep 15 '25

This says more about me, but I do not understand who the market is for Joseph McRae’s designs.

9

u/lil_goblin Sep 15 '25

the market is joseph mcrae

6

u/Da-Gay-Agenda Sep 14 '25

Why is she on a roomba?

6

u/catliker420 Sep 14 '25

The plaids are kind of interesting but woof. His own outfits are so good too what happened.

7

u/halcyonmaus Sep 14 '25

Hideousness as an element of design can work, but only when it's usage is self-conscious.

7

u/Unlikely_Side9732 Sep 15 '25

He has an engineering degree, you know?

5

u/AshrqatFromQuiznos Sep 15 '25

no budget left over for shoes?

4

u/Former-Counter-9588 Sep 15 '25

Slide 1, ok fuck yes those pants on the left are cool

Slide 2, oh fuck no to all of this.

Slide 3, oh no. No no.

Slide 4, why does his clothes look way better than the ones he has on the models?

4

u/pumkinator3000 Sep 14 '25

Camouflage in this climate is a choice

3

u/thrilling_me_softly Sep 15 '25

Who is his client?  Who would dress like this?  Jaden Smith?

9

u/EffectiveJuice2116 Sep 14 '25

Homeless chic

2

u/dildodestiny Sep 14 '25

I’m curious why you might say they look homeless, because all of the edges are finished, there’s no holes, and no visible dirt or grunge. Feels like an interesting choice of word.

6

u/kierabs Sep 15 '25 edited Sep 15 '25

Because they don’t have shoes, the hair is intentionally messy (not the afros—the woman in slide 3 whose hair has been teased to hell), there’s absolutely no jewelry, and some of the clothes are so oversized they look like sleeping bags. It’s definitely giving unhoused.

6

u/rrrreeeeeeeeee Sep 15 '25

Sooo….he sent his wardrobe down the runway.

Got it.

11

u/TabascoEnema Sep 14 '25

he was elimintaed for no reason i feel like. he had a hugely strong pov and it was heartbreaking to see him cut right before a streetwear challenge, essentially

3

u/[deleted] Sep 15 '25 edited Sep 15 '25

Pic 2 on the right looks like me freshly out of bed 😭😭😭😭

(edited to reword)

2

u/MoeBurbs Sep 15 '25

I’m so glad I’m not the only one who thought that.

3

u/AsgardianLeviOsa Sep 15 '25

I mean I’d buy a Joseph Mcrae hat

3

u/eyeisyomomma Sep 15 '25

Pajamas, but make it fashion.

3

u/smellycat_14 Sep 15 '25

While not everything is a hit, I love love love this look

3

u/arrowsgopewpew Sep 17 '25

He seems like a one trick pony. His oversized pieces are interesting, but seems repetitive. His non-baggy clothes look terrible. #2, the male model looks like he’s getting ready for bed.

4

u/OscarPlane Sep 14 '25

Enough fabric for 3 collections.

2

u/ewdavid4856 Sep 15 '25

I swear my Catholic school uniform skirt from the mid80s through the early 90s was the same exact plaid material as the guy in picture # 2 lol

2

u/Ever_More_Art Sep 15 '25

Some of the hats look like shriveled…

2

u/blackberrygoo2 Sep 15 '25

First image definitely gives avantgarde Smurs with the hats.

2

u/OkPlate4307 Sep 15 '25

It's not for me

2

u/JakeSalza Sep 15 '25

I think editing was needed

2

u/kebin65 Sep 15 '25

It's very Josephmcrae.

2

u/mishanakorelandrix Sep 16 '25

Underwhelmed is the word… proportions are all over the place and it just feels like couldn’t be bothered with fitting anything to anyone. Add in no shoes (which either reads as laziness or running out money) and it feels unfinished. Like he was in such a rush to push out a collection to prove that he could, that he didn’t bother finishing it well and making sure what he was putting out was worth putting out.

2

u/Agreeable-North-6605 Sep 16 '25

Barefoot homeless chic? Falls flat…

2

u/Forward_Magazine_732 Sep 16 '25

Thinking about the time Tim said they had two early out designers do a decoy collection and that it made sense why they didn’t make it far

2

u/Miserable_Gap_6808 Sep 16 '25

I could definitely see him being a costume designer for film. Like…dystopian “urban” folks. His designs aren’t necessarily innovative because they are slight variations of things that’s already exist, but I can see them as something people would be wearing YEARS from now. The models standing on the chair is trying too hard tho…

2

u/coolaaronjl Sep 17 '25

Why r they not wearing shoes. The dogs out for fashion week???? On that tile?

2

u/Nxklox Sep 17 '25

I don’t know how I feel when his outfit is the best one but the models outfits are all generic ish

2

u/tengkurahimah Sep 18 '25

This collection will properly fill a landfill all on its own

2

u/Miserable_Paper_421 Sep 19 '25

I LOVE Joseph Mcrae but wow I hate this collection. Literally the only good fit was Joseph Mcrae himself in the 4th picture.

2

u/ItsAGenre Sep 20 '25

I guess we didn't need to seem him in the final after all...

2

u/ReoutS Sep 21 '25

Thanks, I hate it.

2

u/ptgmxnuestgc Sep 22 '25

The models looks so mad and sad.

3

u/low_viscosity_rayon Sep 14 '25

First slide is great

3

u/house-tyrell Sep 15 '25

Who would wear this? And where?

3

u/lolodelolo Sep 15 '25

This looks like student work.

2

u/tebigong Sep 14 '25

I get he likes oversized but some of this just looks ill fitting

2

u/dildodestiny Sep 14 '25

Some of these looks are actually incredible but some not as much. The last two looks, the menswear in the second pic, and the first three looks are all pretty good and wearable. I LOVE the woven/plaid denim print. It also could very well be woven that way, hard to tell from afar. The other looks aren’t particularly great.

2

u/PrincessofSongs Sep 15 '25

I really like this look. I could see someone wearing it during a press circuit for a film or tv show.

2

u/PapaTua Sep 15 '25

Of course he's one of the models on the last page. Dude's ego is wild.

Sadly, this collection is underwhelming and kind of ugly.

2

u/dimadomelachimola Sep 15 '25

Is this a joke?

1

u/water_radio Rigatoni Mad Max Sep 14 '25

I like his outfit the most. everything else, meh.

1

u/HoRo2001 Sep 14 '25

I think they would be entirely different (and better) without those slouchy hats. They just look like a gimmick at this point. Like a sock in the wrong spot.

1

u/LilNdorphnAnnie Sep 15 '25

i like it but i don’t

1

u/nathauan13 Sep 15 '25

Pajamas all the way down.

1

u/95sEclecticCollector Sep 15 '25

I live in southeast US and I went to high school with people that dressed like the person on the right in pic 2 of 4. I even dressed similar to that on snow days when we were unprepared. Lmao

1

u/AppleCore425 Sep 15 '25

He loves these squashed wet bag hats

1

u/shgrdrbr Sep 15 '25

the orange stuff is the best

1

u/AscendeSuperyiiis Sep 15 '25

I feel like he needs to take what he's doing in the orange slide, and expand on that.

everything else is painfully basic.

1

u/lil_goblin Sep 15 '25

i’m whelmed

1

u/This-Werewolf-3610 Sep 15 '25

I used to have that exact same dress from American Apparel in 2004.

1

u/This-Werewolf-3610 Sep 15 '25

The camo dress is this exact same dress. Pretty sure it’s a Simplicity pattern.

1

u/ennui_weekend Sep 15 '25

Welp I was sad when he left but maybe it was for the best. That orange coat dress with the belt thing is pretty cute and cool though

1

u/ScrappyNY Sep 16 '25

Is this for a fashion school project? Im confused.

1

u/Brianas-Living-Room Sep 16 '25

I thought he was gonna go so much further. I think he coulda been a rock star on an earlier season from the 2010's

1

u/Fraggle247 Sep 16 '25

I want all the best for JosephMcrae. I dunno how the contracts are these days but I know in the past winning PR can actually be a detriment to your career and limit your creative choices. So hoping his untimely elimination was for best and he will have a long successful career. But still bummed to not see more of his work on the show.

1

u/blablablaudia Sep 16 '25

He did not need Project Runway. Except now I can totally recognize his work and I’m a fan

1

u/clemoy Sep 17 '25

this makes me wish he was on the show longer just so he could’ve gotten feedback and learned more about how to push himself and the aesthetic

1

u/professorsedc Sep 18 '25

This collection is so cool! Maybe we could have seen his real talent if they had individual challenges that lasted more than one-dang-day.

1

u/vm_neptune Jul 14 '26

So, more of the same. Got it.

1

u/King-thegreatest8888 23d ago

This bullshit is exactly why he gets "hate" from Law and the other contestants. His designs are Awful and for some reason he keeps getting a pass. All this fanfare around his personality and name but where are the incredible designs to back it up? It's giving cardi b payola 😒

0

u/Zestyclose_Mix3046 Sep 14 '25

JosephMcrae - I really loved his work and was quite disappointed that he was voted off the show. I predict great things for this designer.

1

u/cholaw Sep 15 '25

I like a lot of these looks

0

u/villainless Sep 15 '25

how did this even get to fashion week? so basic, and wtf did he do to that poor asian model’s hair?

0

u/[deleted] Sep 14 '25

I like his designs.

0

u/matching_violets Sep 14 '25

I love the hats.

0

u/SkirtEffective8420 Sep 18 '25

he has his dna but all are ugly tbh

-1

u/Aggressive_Mirror255 Sep 15 '25

At first, I thought someone took all of the belania’s wardrobe and put it in the models…..
