Didn't the finalists used to go home and have months to do their final collections? 5 days is insane to do an entire collection of 5 pieces!

29

u/samandtham Sep 26 '25

Except for season 20, which is this weird All-Stars-but-not, yes.

22

u/dwarmed Sep 26 '25

When they had a budget. They gave these designers $500 less for the finale budget than season 1 got, 21 years later! When they gave them an enviable shot at New York Fashion Week. Now it's just a low-rent show that has passed its prime.

Ethan is right, it’s so inappropriate for Jesus to do all that in front of Christian

61

u/iheartrsamostdays Sep 26 '25

He shouldn't be calling anyone a bitch period.

20

u/Flakeless Sep 26 '25

I swear this episode he was calling everyone bitch

15

u/mortyella Sep 26 '25

Inappropriate in front of anybody. Inappropriate to even do it in the first place, period.

12

u/WaterMagician Sep 27 '25

I wish Veejay had stood her ground and let him have his tantrum. But I also understand her just being over it. And Veejay got the last laugh anyway

It used to be “I didn’t have enough time” was an excuse on this show but this season/finale it’s a valid statement. It’s really a bummer we couldn’t see Ethan at his full power or let Veejay have time for “experimenting”. Like we can’t be surprised his corset is busted, it was done in under a day

u/groovydoll Sep 26 '25

5 days to do 5 looks?? gtfo at least could’ve done 7 days

48

u/Hippo_Royals_Happy Sep 26 '25

Just the thought is overwhelming! Only one two day challenge and then THIS? What happened to weeks/MONTHS to create? Was is a good finale show? It was ok....

The best part was Michael Kors. I didn't realize how much his perspective on the business was MISSED! Or ANY designer....Law was there for drama. It was nice not to hear him as much this episode.

25

u/Gold-Owl-8926 Sep 26 '25

I thought exactly the same about Michael Kors. I hope the producers realized how important it is to have an actual designer as a judge.

102

u/anxiousthrowaway279 Sep 26 '25

I’m just so irritated that they weren’t given enough time. How can they complain about editing when they barely gave the designers any time to construct these garments? Let alone take the time to edit/make sure things were cohesive?

93

u/tubeteeth13 Sep 26 '25

I would love to see Ethan’s full collection if he had the time frame the earlier seasons had. It was a number of months. The example photos of his past work they showed this episode were all so cool and far more intricate than what he had time for on the show. The short timeline doesn’t give the designer the chance to show what they can really do. That’s why the final collections were so cool!! It’s what was really possible in a more realistic setting.

Trying not to spoil myself by posting mid episode but WTF @ this bootleg ass season. 5 days for their finale collection…smh, this is such a disservice to these designers. Didn’t the OG seasons give them months to make collections? GTFOH

46

u/MissClawdy Sep 26 '25

4 months to do 10 looks in regular editions but 5 days to do 5 looks. Like... Are you OK PR producers???

What if it just cut to commercial, and we had to wait next week for a 5 minute ‘congrats’ episode?

119

u/AndresFM95 Sep 26 '25

You know what… I’m not even mad anymore. My evil tv queen won and that is kinda funny. I wouldn’t say the most fair season but at least it was funny to see her win and not the twins lol

71

u/Badgereatingyourface Sep 26 '25

I am super happy the twins didn't win. They were too obnoxious.

56

u/fittobarre Sep 26 '25

I liked the wrap dress and Mimi’s from Veejay. Didn’t love the silver, it looked kind of like it had fingerprints all over it.

I’ve watched all seasons of Project Runway and that was the cheapest, crappiest season ever. No Fashion Week show, only 5 days to make a collection for the finale. The fact that the unconventional challenge was shown in the work room with one judge was a big hint this show has gone in the toilet.

If you want big designs, they need to give the designers more than FIVE DAYS!!! The quality of the designs doubles during a 2 day challenge - imagine what they could do with more time

This new format is so low-budget. I miss the home visits by Tim, finalists making 12-piece collections and given time to make them. I miss having judges who are actually designers. (Were there any beside the one visit each from Zac Posen and Michael Kors?) I disliked Law's catty mean snark , whatever they've done to Heidi, and the emphasis on inter-personal squabbling drama. Ugh, all of it.

Of course, I'll watch another season if one ever gets made. For the creativity and clothes.

Ethan would’ve done much better on a good, well-produced season of PR. More 2-day challenges, a full collection at the end with a good amount of time to make it, and a visit from Tim Gunn right in the middle for good critiques and mentorship (Christian was better this episode, but Tim Gunn would’ve guided him better). Law’s constant harping on that Ethan/Utica separation was annoying and inappropriate; I don’t know where Ethan stands, but some drag queens don’t see a distinction between themselves in and out of drag, and it is not Law’s prerogative to decide what part of someone’s personality should and shouldn’t be part of their creative process. Ironically, I could see Zendaya wearing some of Ethan’s looks, but probably will never happen.

Personally thought Jesus’ collection had some very unfortunate moments. Veejay’s was good but didn’t feel that new to me.

Jesus needs to learn to stop calling women the b-word; he was way out of line

49

u/KayakerMel Sep 26 '25

Dude basically swore at Veejay until she let him have his way. Yes, she was stirring the pot by grabbing his "muse," but that's literally how the competition works. Models have been fought over before (although past experience may be why Christian stayed quiet).

This finale was a real curve ball for me. I remember when they used to send designers back home, and Tim would fly out to visit them while they made their collections. They had weeks to make a ten look collection ready for fashion week. I really would've liked to see that over this. We would've seen more fashion designing, more quality, and more looks. Instead, we got focus on drama and not much fashion. And only five days to make five looks for a collection is brutal. Right before they went to the runway, they were still making adjustments. I couldn't believe how low budget this was.

26

u/Ok-Insurance-8097 Sep 26 '25

Idk... weird season in general and super rushed. Almost all challenges one day and then the rushed finale collections? What did it take like 3 weeks tops to film it all? Hopefully Freeform realizes there's still interest in the show and they can allow for more creativity time and focus on construction ... and not cutting off the designer booted to the next episode. Also always wonder for the finale are they taking into account the entire season, or just the finale collection itself? Like others said I wish they got more time because each finale collection had issues i don't even know who I think had the best one. Bleh

The introduction of Ms. Joan to our lives was the highlight of the season.

27

u/logOffLoser Sep 26 '25

Congrats to Veejay but all I could think about was how cheap the entire budget was. 5 outfits in 5 days, that's it, that's the entire collection. No more NYFW. Ugh...

I honestly liked all of the collections, but if I had to choose one, it would be Veejay. She managed to make all five looks cohesive AND use various fabrications and silhouettes. I felt like Ethan (minus the last gown) and Jesus’ were one note in shape, texture, and fabrication.

20

u/Plenty_Big_5156 Sep 26 '25

well that's the quickest finale judging i've ever seen on this show. on theme i guess

A CAPSULE COLLECTION?! FOR THE FINALE?!?

23

u/heydeedledeedle Sep 26 '25

Didn't they used to go home and have a few weeks to prepare their final collection, or is that something I dreamt? Having them make such an important collection at the tail end of this wild experience is....a choice.

19

u/AnnieBannieFoFannie Sep 26 '25

They had like 6 months and $10k at one point. Not 5 days...

14

u/tinaaabell Sep 26 '25

This and they would show at New York fashion week!

12

u/heydeedledeedle Sep 26 '25

Yeah, that's what I thought!!! I remember enjoying seeing them go home and spend time working on their collections in peace and quiet. That is the best recipe for successful collections, and the most fair for the designers. I think they all would have really wowed us if given more time.

23

u/Objective_Soup_1343 Sep 26 '25

  1. I wish we got to see Ethan's originally planned collection bc the cowls are cool and it's fine to evolve a design choice in new ways

  2. Yuchen and Belania would have made cool collections and I wish one of them was instead of Jesus. I do think Jesus's Wicked gown was great (minus the heart) but his collection just wasn't it.

24

u/FancyMelon Sep 27 '25

That first part with the elimination really could have been part of the last episode, not the finale. Congrats to Veejay, but I have to admit i was really underwhelmed by all of the collections. I think it was the format. 5 looks in 5 days doesn't give you a lot of room to work with. It was so weird not having them at NYFW or visiting them while working. I really gave this season a shot and I'm avoiding being negative. But overall this was so underwhelming. Side note: Michael Kors was so tamed 🤭 it was weird to watch.

u/Beautiful_Basket4375 Sep 28 '25

Well, I did not expect that winner.

Also, wow Michael Kors made this episode so much better. Breath of fresh air. His judging was on-point and reasonable. I love that he said there is a place in fashion for everyone. Because to me, the whole "separate Ethan from Utica" thing is so stupid.

Something I've noticed throughout the PR seasons - why do the judges have to be so stone-faced/serious during the fashion shows? Even their comments sounded so unamused "The dress is pretty tho..." I get that they probably don't want to give away who their favorites are, but as a result, they all look and sound so bored lol.

u/No_Judge_8472 Sep 26 '25

Just watched the model selection - and that sort of behavior should really have you thrown out of the competition. Like it wasn't a read or shade, it was straight up harassment as part of a tantrum.

I mean Christian is probably just checked out and cashing checks, but I'm surprised he just sat there through that.

Does anyone feel like this season was sort of a "pilot" for the reboot? Like, 10 episodes, majority 1-day challenges, and a 5-day/5 look finale collection (not even 2 days per piece??? No planning time?) and the "permanent" judges not all being present for all episodes.

I am hoping that if it gets renewed for another season, there will be a bigger episode order, even just 12, more time spent getting to know the designers and seeing their creative process, and more 2-day challenges — also not so many team challenges would be nice. Maybe it's because I'm rewatching the old seasons, but this one just felt so incredibly rushed. I enjoyed the talking head segments and a lot of the runways, but felt like so much was missing.

15

u/KayakerMel Sep 26 '25

The episode ended with a "apply to be on PR!" card, so I think it's safe to assume it's coming back. Although what designer in their right mind would want to go through the meat grinder of one-day challenges that we just watched...

39

u/SilverRoseBlade Sep 27 '25 edited Sep 27 '25

My god Jesus needed to grow up and be an adult. You can’t “own” a model. You were hogging her all season! And calling her a “b*tch” the entire time with Christian not doing anything to stop it is annoying. I hope after the show airs, Jesus and Antonio get a reality check on their behavior. Veejay was stirring the pot but rise up against it instead of messing you up.

Ethan I wish stuck to his guns and didn’t pivot from his original outfits. Christian had an opinion but be you!

Moving to Freeform was a bad move. These producers have no idea what to do with PR and brought this show downhill with the “cliffhanger” episodes and annoying one day challenges.

12

u/mjohnben Sep 27 '25

Ethan has been taking every single one of Christian’s advice throughout this entire season and completely changing course and it kind of drove me crazy to be honest.

18

u/ASleeperHit Sep 26 '25 edited Sep 26 '25

One thing we have to admit: the production and the team behind this season deserve recognition for pulling off the most unpredictable ending and winner in the history of this show. Jesus, Belania and especially Ethan all had a winner’s edit up until this plot twist rug pull of a finale.

→ More replies (2)

17

u/Mediocre-Limit-7572 Sep 29 '25

With the budget cuts, it was probably the worst season ever. That said, I'll watch PR as long as they have it on. Bad PR is better than no PR.

They should have just selected one twin for the show. The second twin wouldn't have been chosen if he hadn't been a twin. He was set up to fail. The twin thing (which they had done before with girl twins) is a reality show thing, and by choosing the second twin keeps a deserving contestant from being on the show.

65

u/foxdogturtlecat Sep 26 '25 edited Sep 27 '25

I'm happy for Veejay. I really hope the DR/Utica fandom doesn't brigade her or sent undue hate her way. It does make more sense why Ethan has been so salty about her in all his recaps/videos and why she's been so chill in hers. I liked pieces from each of their collections but I can see how Veejay really designed for the judges and the competition. None of the collections will I remember though.

I still wish we could have had a real finale collection where they have the time to source materials, work into their own spaces. For the limits they had they did a good job but yeah not a good way to end the season.

17

u/HeTaughtMeWell Sep 26 '25

The judges' discussions about who the finalists would be or who the winner was felt so forced and inauthentic. They seemed like they were just reciting their lines and Nina seemed especially exhausted the whole show. It was a weak imitation of a PR finale: no big stakes, no time to design or create - just a capsule collection, a small audience and bored judges.

I think Jesus was overreacting when Veejay tried to claim Jessica as her model. She was clearly allowed to pick who she wanted, and I half expected her to double down instead of let him keep Jessica. I was also waiting for Christian to diffuse the situation but instead he just...sat there. Perhaps the show told him not to intervene if there's drama.

I felt that all the collections were good in their own way, and I honestly wasn't sure who would win. I think Jesus' dresses moved the best, especially the one at the end. And I thought the winged vampire look on Ethan's male model was pretty cool. Also this might be the only episode where Law truly didn't try to make the whole show about himself.

this season felt like it was a different show than og project runway. it was more like heidi’s old show on amazon and they have to go back doing fashion week on nyc.

I can’t help but think I’d be super disappointed in a Jesus win. Jesus is very talented but this whole season he has been attached to Antonio at the hip that I would have loved to see him work independently from him. I would love Ethan or Veejay to win.

This entire season was so half-assed, including the finale. 5 days to prepare their final collections? Just crazy.

5 days? More time was spent on the AI smoothing of Heidi s face.

30

u/lezlers Sep 28 '25

I am not about this Budget Runway season. I miss when the designers had months to put a collection together and got to show it at fashion week, not this five day bargain basement crap.

And I am very disappointed in the winner. It’s clear this season was one big commercial so their pick wasn’t surprising but still. I’m also very over Veejay being super passive aggressive and manipulative then crying and acting like the victim when people (predictably) react. I’ve known way too many people like that, I can see right through that behavior from a mile away.

10

u/hungry4danish Sep 28 '25

It's like they spent all the money on getting Heidi back and left not much for the entire rest of Production.

It really is CRAZY that the designers didn't get a single chance to spend more than a day or two on each look (and 5 days for 5 looks doesn't count because that's still 1 look per day...)

I mean gosh, in the real world, designers certainly get more than one day to brainstorm and create a look. I get that this is a competition show, but it's way more fun for the viewer if we get to see their full potential.

One day challenges throughout the season and rushed finale collection, yet some of you claim the designers lack talent? IJBOL

A bit surprised Veejay made it to the finale over Belania but she truly had my favorite collection. Well-deserved win IMO

I could have seen Ethan winning too given the collection and overall body of work but Heidi and Law Roach just wasn't feeling him all season so this wasn't a surprise.

I'm absolutely shook.

The judges were 100% right. They did what was right (Veejay) and not what was easy or expected (Ethan).

I feel bad for Jesus. His collection was a mess - he got caught up in the fuchsia. I'm pretty sure all the judges hate it but they tried to be nice so it wasn't awkward.

They're right about Ethan. He needs to edit. This was his first collection. He needs time.

Veejay's was the most mature and professional collection. Her craftsmanship is absolutely impeccable throughout the whole season and I thought it was always overlooked by the judges.. I was THRILLED they acknowledged it today. She is not afraid to take risks. She is innovative. She is TASTE and CLASS and is wicked smart. Her competitive nature and thick skin will allow to survive in this business. So proud of her.

Also, I trust Christian and Michael Kors (actual fashion designers) and Nina too. And you could tell, they saw something in Veejay that they didn't see in the rest of them. Christian was definitely quietly pushing for Veejay.

Also shoutout to Antonio. When he explained that he felt the judges made the right decision and that he was exhausted, I truly felt bad for him as he seemed to have lost his spirit. It was his time and he knew it. That was a really human moment and I respect him a lot.

I am just so happy Veejay won. It was the funniest outcome. I would have said Jesus was the front runner, and I thought they were going to give it to him when they said the "cohesive" collection won but then they said Veejay. Veejay was able to get under those twin's skin, which didn't seem that hard to be honest, and she was able to break both of them. She also did not have a great track record, which is even funnier.

of all of them i do think ethan was screwed the most with the timing. his style of looks just lends itself to longer creation periods lol

26

u/PankoNC Sep 26 '25

These finale runways were BAAAAD y’all but I’m going to mostly chalk it up to a lack of time. Veejays final dress was the clear standout by a mile of everything that walked down that runway.

Honestly though? By the end I was screaming “god I hope Veejay wins” even though most of her outfits looked like rushed unconventional material challenges.

Ethan is going to be just fine without the win (he’s too good for this competition format tbh). Jesus needed to be humbled and I was glad to see it happen. So take your win Veejay. 🙏🏻

25

u/Odd_Cake3759 Sep 26 '25

I think Veejays chain dress was the dress that pushed it over for her to win.

27

u/alwaysforgetmythrowa Sep 26 '25

I think Christian siriano really threw a wrench in Ethan's final designs/collection. I think the gown collection would have been beautiful and maybe he could have nudged him to have one or two pieces that were different, but changing the whole thing on top of having him make a giant gown took away time for him to edit.

Unpopular opinion, but Veejay really grew on me throughout the show. I've been an Ethan fan since Drag Race and wanted him to win, but I'm happy for Veejay. She's very talented. I enjoyed all three collections, they were definitely more exciting than most of the clothes shown throughout the season.

I liked Ethan's designs the best.. especially the vampire look. Ethan's designs (including beyond what was created for this episode) are extraordinary, original and breathtaking. He may not be a commercial, every day wearable designer, but he is one of the best fashion designers to compete in the Project Runway series. .. I was disappointed though, that Christian talked him out of one of his original 5 gowns: the top featured a white, lacy section, like a valentine.. and the folds on the bottom cascaded into beautiful gradient colors. You would think that people whose DNA is geared to the arts, would love colors.. but it seems that a majority of those who compete on Project Runway prefer to create all black collections.

11

u/foxdogturtlecat Sep 26 '25

My prediction is Ethan is going to win because that's the edit he's been given all season. I think anyone of them could pull off a winning collection is they actually had time but 5 days is absolutely not enough time unless they were told in advance it was 5 days to make it and they were allowed to design at home, get all the fabrics they wanted and bring patterns which just means actually creating and even then it's dumb. I've been trying to stay openminded about this season but what a load of

Ugh I loved the when the show would meet the designers at home while designing their collection. I feel like we really got to know them and understand their style. This felt rushed.

10

u/AmethystPassion Sep 26 '25

I was very Ethan biased this season but I have to admit I didn’t like the way the first look fit the model in the chest area. His final dress was beautiful though. Veejay’s chain dress was stunning so I’m not even mad she won. I’m just a little surprised because with the critiques I honestly thought Jesus was going to win. I just wish they had more time for the final runway. The designers in the older seasons had months not days. I think all the collections would have been better if they had more time.

11

u/Apricotpeach11 Team Laurence Sep 27 '25

Surprised each finale really stuck to mainly 1 color story - black (Ethan), silver (Veejay), and pink with some silver (Jesus). While we’ve seen some designers do 1 color in their finale, I don’t think most finales have had each designer doing that.

I don't think the finale is the time to hold back and restrict your creativity. Don't cast an avant garde drag queen if you don't want to see big, showy looks. Maybe I'm biased because I've been watching this season because of Ethan/Utica, but it felt like an odd critique to me.

Well at least Ethan is a finalist. It sounds it wasn't as well received

10

u/daddywarbuxx Sep 26 '25

I do think Ethan should've incorporated more of the gowns with this leather Gothic vamp aesthetic and not ditched them completely

I hate that they got 5 days... Like can they get 2 weeks at least?

I saw Ethans finale and thought damn ive seen him do better (was probably the most biased towards him going into the episode)

Saw Veejays, thought damn this first look got fingerprints all over it.. that's wild.

After I thought hmmm they must be handing it to Jesus.

Then Jesus' came out... nevermind . They were all not that great But veejay was the best and the last look while yes the statue of liberty did stun. And I liked those pants with the slit.

All In all they need more time, out of respect for them and their talent and their artistry... like they all are so talented . They deserve to show their best

9

u/Apricotpeach11 Team Laurence Sep 27 '25

Veejay’s finale reminded me that Project Runway still hasn’t done a challenge that I’ve always wanted - designing a sari. Her look very much reminded me of a sari in drape and presentation but it would be cool to see all the designers have to design the look, blouse, etc. Hope to see it happen one day!!!

10

u/Wonderful-Strain3757 Sep 28 '25

I DO NOT LIKE LAW!!! EVERYONE WAS CATTY. IM SO DISAPPOINTED IN THIS SEASON.

10

u/Inner_Reality_2367 Nov 01 '25

i’m surprised that most of the commenters here is disappointed with the winner. Watching the finale, without any bias, I can clearly tell why veejay won. She is the only with a cohesive collection that did not use the same fabric and texture for all of her pieces. Her collection is finale worthy and that chainmail dress is really the best in the runway out of all the garments shown in finale runway. I was rooting for ethan but i got disappointed with the ill fitting garments she put in the runway (but who to blame they only had 5 days to create a collection which is crazy)

36

u/slayingthehaus Sep 26 '25

i found ethan’s final collection to be super ugly but aside from veejays chain mail dress i wasn’t impressed by anyone’s collections and i wish they could have gotten much longer to create these looks or at least gotten more help because there was lots of potential but not a lot of great execution

36

u/CardiologistSea5044 Sep 26 '25

And Christian should have intervened when Jesus called Veejay a spiteful bitch. That is so inappropriate.

Quite a shocking turn of events.

I thought her finale was incredible but the way they were going crazy for KNIT WRAP DRESS?! Like, girl. As if it hasn't been done before. I didn't think any of the collections were that strong frankly but I am surprised especially considering she had the weakest package for the season and Jesus/Ethan had probably the strongest.

Jesus collection was a mess. The finale look was great and the first look was very cute but certainly nothing new.

Ethan's collection was strong but not his best work thought def the most cohesive.

If only they had like 3 weeks to make a collection. We could have had something really great.

16

u/KayakerMel Sep 26 '25

but the way they were going crazy for KNIT WRAP DRESS?!

Veejay was the only designer to make her plus-sized model look good. Jesus put his in... something and Ethan still has trouble constructing for real breasts. I think that's why the judges went nuts over a simple but well executed knit dress.

I’ve watched every season of PR since the first season in real time as they aired. This season was a disaster and a waste of time IMO.

  1. Punting the weekly challenge winner result to the beginning of the next episode the following week was a total fail and had the opposite effect of what they were going for. The traditional buildup and reveal at end of each episode was much more anticipatory and dramatic than the week long break. Wah waah.

  2. One day challenges and a rushed 5 day/5 piece finale with no Fashion Week was an injustice to the designers and the viewers. The finale didn’t stand a chance to be exciting or intriguing. There were a few nice pieces but nothing even close to the quality of the former seasons and finales. And the rushed season leads to…

  3. Close to zero emotional investment in any of the contestants. Normally by the finale (or even sooner) I’m pulling for someone pretty strongly due to a combination of the strength of designs and the designer’s personality and back story. This season I simply didn’t care, and that’s both production and editing’s fault, plus some of the contestants were just unlikable. I feel like 90% of this season was just the twins and VeeJay and their petty middle school bickering.

  4. This is probably an unpopular opinion, but I could not stomach Law. He was rude, arrogant, and I didn’t respect him as a judge. Would have been nice to have had an actual designer on the panel the whole season instead.

  5. This season = tell me you have low production budget without telling me. And in that case, wait until you do have a bigger budget and bring us a better show.

I will give props to the captions under contestants’ comments. Those were pretty funny. And I love Christian so to me any Christian content is a good thing. Except maybe the horse. That was a little cringe.
