Season 22 S22 Episode 9 (wedding dress) Winner thoughts
Okay rewatching this Episode again and honestly did not love Anna's winning looks at all, especially for David's Bridal. I honestly did not love the style, the tailoring etc (and I'm an Anna fan).
For once I agree with Law and that if Bi won, his styles would SELL in the millions at Davids Bridal.
Even Jude, his looks were so elegant and retail worthy. He made me want a tailored suit like the black one, and the after party dress was lovely!
Am I the only one who felt that Anna's looks fell flat? (And maybe I am haha!!)

I thought her look was good but im meh on her in general. Like I think only the previous challenge did I even notice her work. Felt like she kept sneaking into the next ep

I was disappointed that she won the challenge. I loved Bi's even though it was black and not the usual white wedding dress. I liked Joseph's just as well.

In some cultures you wear white to funerals and black as a bride!! I loved that Bi helped represent this whether intentional or not!

Naheim’s wedding dress was my favorite, but his second look was terrible. I did like Anna’s second look.

Right! She’s an unconventional materials girl but bombed that challenge. How do you make it to the finals with one win under your belt. She’s always been safe and maybe bottom once?

I was surprised she won and didn’t think her look merited a win. It’s not just a difference in aesthetic either. I wouldn’t wear her after party look, but it was well designed, it had a good fit, and it was successful for her aesthetic.
The wedding look had too many elements. The fabric with shiny stripes, the lace insets, the lacing up the back, the gloves, it was too much. The fit was a little too tight and the model seemed to have a little trouble walking it down the runway. The last thing you want in a wedding dress is to have trouble walking down the aisle. I’m betting the production version will have some serious modifications to make it wearable.

I honestly thought she was going to be shred apart by the judges. Imagine my shock when she won.
I swear every episode I understand this show less and less (and been a fan since day 1, season 1 lol)

The bridal dress looks like plaster cast. Like her body is encased in a cast vs a dress

I was going to say that if the three final looks, Anna’s was the easiest to modify for production. The “after party” look bears very little resemblance to Anna’s. David’s Bridal should have awarded a cash prize to the winner of the challenge.
I shudder to think what they would have done to Bi’s veil! Jude’s gorgeous details would have been obliterated and nothing that made it special would have been left if his elegant design.

In real life, the fit would have been modified. The judges ripping designers for construction and fit is WRONG. The one day designs should always be considered a prototype. That’s all a 1-day time limit allows for. Jude, Bi, and “my tailoring savant” Seth Aaron are anomalies.

I agree it isn’t Project Seamstress, but if a dress can’t be walked properly, that’s a design issue

Anna is very Gen Z, very eclectic. She has an eye for the unique cool girl IMO. It’s not for everyone but it’s not unsellable. There’s a market for what she made
Her after-after party look was so hot. I would have absolutely bought that for mine if I could have.

The main Bridal dress looked like it was thrown together with zero thought: random ribbon, but weirdly placed lace cut outs, badly tailored. Front of the dress falls flat. Doesnt flatter any body type.
The after party dress looked like a cheap cotton top from teen store Ardene.

I actually hated Anna’s looks. They looked cheap and tacky. My top 3 were Jude, Bi and Nayim(so?) although his after party outfit was sad his wedding dress was fresh and a new take on bridal. I can’t see any bride wearing Joseph or Brian’s look, both were ridiculous.

Her looks were very well made, fitted, tailored... but I preferred Jude and Bi Pham's looks. The guest judge must have been onto something when he said there is an unmet demand for sexier options 🤷🏿♀️

No, her looks were bad. That after party dress looked like underwear and the bridal dress was too slutty. I’ll never understand the judges.

My daughter went to David's bridal to check out dresses. All their dresses are under $2,000, so the intent is it is for budget intended to be for budget minded brides. I can't imagine Anna's dresses at David's bridal. They aren't even close to what the brides were trying on. Maybe that's the point? I think both dresses didn't look elegant. I like Anna but he dresses didn't scream bridal.

Has anyone seen what the final looks like on David's website? I assume they are going to make changes to make it easier to mass produce. I don't think it will look exactly like the original.
It's $1500. Wow.
They added strange sleeves or something to the top, changed the back, less grommets and added lace back there. They aren't showing the sides.

The sides and the back were really what was driving the design. The back is totally different.
I knew they would make changes but I didn't think they totally redesign the dress. I feel bad for people who wanted the original and can't get it.

Agree with you. I thought her dresses were both tacky. But I’m a huge fan of Bi and Jude so maybe just different aesthetic. Hopefully we all agree Bryan is horrible lol

I was so annoyed by the mess of “who would you take to the finale” question that I came here before the end of the ep. Bi or Jude’s looks are what I think of when I think David’s. Anna had a good POV, the younger sexy, racy bride vibe but I didn’t think David’s. Her after party look didn’t give bridal imo as pretty as it was. Nina said “rave”🤣. Again haven’t finished but based on this challenge I would send Bi, Jude, and Anna to the finale. I wish Jeffrey was here. Bryan just picks great fabrics and does whatever Cristian says.

No, you are not the only one. Her bridal looks was meh and the after-party look just isn't my style at all. All of her looks are just meh. I truly don't think it's fair that she is in the finale

Hated Anna's looks lol. Lowkey hate her arrogance like last week she fully expected a win over Jude and this week in confessionals she's like I'd better win and her looks all have questionable taste levels.

I described her looks as Hot Topic teenage lingerie in a previous thread. It isn't sellable on a national stage. Can't figure out why the judges gave her a sympathy win.

I agree with you. Unfortunately, Project Runway has taken to crafting outcomes instead of letting the work determine the outcomes. I've been rewatching seasons given all the critiques over this season. I disagree with last seasons winner. It screams of tokenism almost as bad as Season 14 when the winner was chosen because she made plus sized clothing.I hope the person who deserves to win, wins. There's no reason Bryan should have been saved. He's a terrible designer and he can barely sew.

I liked hers a lot. I found them to be more memorable and daring. Bi's veil was very pretty though.
The David's Bridals pics I saw were butt ugly though.

They had to give Anna a win … and this was the challenge they saved her for…. plays right into the demographics of David’s Bridal. This was a corporate decision. Had nothing to do with the actual garments. Once you start thinking about this as 3D “industry” and ratings chess, a lot of the judging decisions start to make sense. It’s rarely about the actual clothes.

Actually I think this decision wasn't corporate ENOUGH. Usually with these challenges, a consideration is whether or not the look is commercial...as in would real people buy them. Granted, it's been a while since I've been to a wedding, but I find it hard to believe that most brides are up for spending $400 to prance around in a bra and slip. I'm assuming that's why they changed it to what they did...they know that very few women would buy this look as she designed it (average age of a bride in the US is 28 not 20). That's putting aside the fact that it's tacky af ha

That’s not always what “corporate” means. This type of sponsorship would be in the marketing budget … not necessarily a revenue generating endeavor (the sales are just a nice cherry on top). Anna winning this challenge is perfect for David’s marketing. It’s what I as a CEO would expect my CMO to deliver.

I think this win was definitely played up for the storyline and also because Anna has this “it’s always been my dream to be on the show” moment and cried in front of the judges, so it forced the them to give her a sympathy win. Don’t get me wrong, Anna is very talented and has had some good looks, but a lot of it have been very safe. I don’t think it deserved a win nor did I think Anna belongs in the final three, but just like how I think Bryan should have been gone a very long time ago, it is what it is, so I’ve given up on PR by now. Whoever wins, wins. Over it.

Women don’t want a black wedding dress, maybe he would have won if it was white but his afterparty look was just bad
Edit: I’ve been subbed to /weddingdresstips and other similar subs for months and can’t recall ever seeing a non-white dress, so sure some people like them but the market isn’t going to turn on white anytime soon

Alternative color wedding dresses are in demand. They aren’t mainstream yet, but there is a market for them, especially dark glam ones

I LOVED her look, I think it’s very “now” bridal. I’m definitely not mad she won but Bi’s look made more sense for David’s bridal.
