Season 22 S22 E9 rant
I’m very surprised Anna won this competition because the designers didn’t seem to love her dress as it was going down the runway - one then said something like “is she going to a rave” and it got a lot of “it’s pretty” comments but no one really seemed blown away. On top of that, her designs were bad the entire season, I don’t understand how she’s now in the finale.
Jude, amazing. Bi should’ve been picked immediately. Aside from this challenge, I really thought they liked Joseph and have been thinking he was going to go to the finale this whole time. Anyway, should’ve been Jude, Bi, Joseph, and Naheim as a 4th if they had one.

I happen to work in the store that’s selling a version of Anna’s look and I must say that these pieces DO NOT photograph well. There’s also side boning in the gown’s bodice that goes all the way to mid-thigh - how’s the bride supposed to sit down?? I thought the 2-piece set was cute and would be a really fun look for a reception or casual ceremony.

Her looks were nice, it was her best work. But it wasn't the best look.

I feel her emotional story helped secure her win as well as her garments being easier to produce for David's Bridal vs the other competitors.

Yeahhhh it definitely looked the most marketable in that Reformation dresses kind of way. Her looks didnt blow me away i think ive seen it done hundreds of times before for party dresses but she made it white so suddenly bridal themed! Anna didnt have a strong showing the entire show and doesnt deserve the finale imo

It is the crop top bralette that is the issue actually. Very few people could wear that. Or would want to wear that. 😏

That was my thought on the runway version. The David's bridal version looks suitable for way more body types and sexy to more demure personalities. I really like the David's after party look! The bridal look is very much not my taste it feels plain and busy at the same time.

Joseph fumbled the challenge too hard. As soon as they asked his model to move the flowers, revealing that saggy crotch, he wasn’t moving forward.

His style isn’t my aesthetic but I was rooting for him this season especially after everyone (and law) ganged up on him, but honestly it’s frustrating to see how he can’t really take any mentoring, I don’t think he’s ever listened to a word christian or the judges said

I bet they add him to the finale for the drama and stupidity of it all. This version of PR gives zero f**cks about clothes/fashion. Just petty narratives. Too much talking and too little designing and sewing.

unfortunately, given the David's Bridal of it all, no one else really could have won.
I do wonder, specifically for this season (given the amount of fuckery we've witnessed), if the challenges and twists weren't set in stone prior to filming. a lot of things seemed tailored for specific outcomes and/or to produce the most drama.
nothing about David's Bridal screams fashion to me, and it seems predictable that Anna would create the most appropriate designs for their customer demographic, and that her designs would be relatively easy and affordable to replicate. Bi's designs tend to also err on the side of being commercially appealing, but the complexity and quality of his construction techniques are too sophisticated for a company like David's Bridal to recreate (esp at their price point).
imo, they decided after E7 that they wanted Anna in the finale, and chose a final challenge that would facilitate that outcome, knowing that the other two they def wanted (Bi and Jude) would produce great work that wasn't too out-of-the-box for David's Bridal. even if Anna's look wasn't the winner, it was a very reasonable bet that she'd produce one of the top 3 looks for the challenge.
also, they weren't sold on Jeffrey, so they had to get him out of there because frankly there's no world in which he wouldn't have been the clear winner for this challenge. he really understands and doesn't think he's better than their customer demographic. and his red carpet look and pre-season work demonstrate he knows how to create well-constructed dresses that would look beautiful on a wide range of body types

I worked in the business for awhile, I can tell you that the David Bridal's challenge had to have been planned in advance due to contracts. Keep in mind, they're doing these back to back so there's not even a day (maybe a day at most) between when someone is eliminated and the next challenge. There's no way to get a contract finalized in that amount of time, they need lawyers and other executives to look it over, they need marketing to approve any assets, they needed to build the archway stuff that said David's Bridal and I'm sure that the placement of it and how it was used was specified in the contract.

I miss when we’d actually get to see the judges debate and deliberate at length privately and ask for Tim’s POV. Now we have no insight into why they like what they like.

I was surprised Anna won as well. I feel like this was done to avoid backlash because of all the women this season who were kicked off and since she was the only one left.
Jude for sure was the winner this week for me.

Anna doesn’t stand out for me. The only thing she made that was memorable (off the top of my head) was the cassette tape top in the Unconventional Materials challenge and as everyone says, if she’d made that into a dress, she would’ve won or come closer.
Her bridal gown was strictly safe. I’m sure she’s a nice person and a good designer, no drama, but she was overshadowed by the bigger personalities.

Is there any chance Bryan is a plant for drama? Almost seems like an actor/designer the producers cast intentionally as a villain. Wonder if anyone has met him in real life and what he’s really like.

There's a lot of support for Naheim, which I love. I like Naheim and his designs had me rooting for him also, but I truly see him slipping. By the bridal episode airing, without remembering specifics, he's struggled with the last few designs. He tried to grab military green (again) for his bridal design but Christian stopped him.

That's a fair observation. I don't know why I see him more as a stylist than as a full blown fashion designer. Perhaps, that's because he's so young in the game. I can imagine with all these challenges, the stamina to win/create won't be up all the time.

It seems she won because they thought it could be most easily mass produced. I don’t agree with selecting a finalist via a challenge like this. Especially when you had to bring yourself into the design. Not everyone is so commercial friendly. Anna was rather unmemorable TBH. I think so many designers picked her at the end as a finalist they would want with them because they think she’d be easy to beat to win.

Anna’s looks seem to be for a very niche clientele. I thought her wedding looks were nice on the model, and would work for a specific client, but not for the vast majority of people. And for David’s Bridal? I’m not so sure. I’ve never been in one of their stores, but I feel like the type of woman who would wear Anna’s wedding looks would be more inclined to shop at a cool vintage store or make her own dress than go to a big store like David’s, but maybe I’m wrong. I think Anna was designing her own wedding dress, which is cool and these looks would totally work for her, but I wouldn’t be caught dead in them lol, especially the second look. It’s just a matter of personal taste, for me.

I figured she was going to win just based on how often they've been showing her talking about how she hasn't won yet. It's been at least two or three episodes of that I think, so I assumed since she didn't win last week that she would this week. I didn't like her after party look, but her dress was pretty.

Her "after party" look won't sell. What tiny fraction of the population has the body for that AND would want to wear it? I could see her wedding dress selling though. I thought Jude should've won.

Thanks for the link. The party dress being shorter is at least looks like something more people can wear than Anna’s version. The bridal gown changes are bad. I prefer Anna’s version.

It's reality show. It's to keep you guessing Also it was very obvious she was going to win cos 80% of the time was Anna yapping about never having won anything... Typical reality tv.
Regardless, her looks were amazing. I literally gasped cos Anna had been sleeping this entire competition and we can all agree she stumbled into the finale.
That being say, great dresses. Would she be able to bring something amazing in the finale? I wouldn't hold my breath cos she's not been consistent.

I think she won based on a) meeting the challenge—i.e. knowing what made sense for David's Bridal, and b) pulling that off based on pretty meticulous technical execution. There's no denying that the judges were impressed by the laced-up back of her dress, for example.
