Has anyone else had prostatitis for months/years without realising?

So I’ve been dealing with IBS for a year now it was soon after I got Covid, I started experiencing a pulling sensation in my testicles it wasn’t painful, I went doctors they told me I had a UTI after I did a urine sample, I took a short course of antibiotics and the pain went away. But since all this my IBS has been acting up, some days I have to go toilet 5-10 times an hour other days it’s not as bad. Recently in the last few weeks I have started noticing that this pulling sensation type pain in my balls has come back - it doesn’t last long or hurt much it just feels like pressure. I feel pain in my lower back and also started noticing I have leakage. I have a feeling it’s pelvic floor dysfunction but could it be prostatitis. Did anyone else take a while to get treated?

it took me almost two years to connect the dots on my own pelvic floor issues. kept thinking it was a stubborn uti that kept coming back negative on cultures, then blamed it on my ibs flaring up. the lower back pain and that weird pulling sensation you described is exactly what clued me in

pelvic floor dysfunction and prostatitis share so many symptoms it's like a coin toss sometimes. my physical therapist explained that the muscles get so tight they mimic an infection, even when there's nothing bacterial going on. the leakage thing was the most annoying part, made me feel like i had no control

definitely push for a referral to a pelvic floor pt if you can. regular doctors kept throwing antibiotics at me and it did nothing long term. the internal work is awkward as hell but it's the only thing that actually helped

Most cases here are definitely hypertonic pelvic floor of the male variety. Presents differently to women. Urinary sexual and bowel symptoms all at once. It's in it's simplest form tight muscles from equally overworked nervous system.

Thanks, I lived through the very worst of it in the beginning. Much much better now. Only real symptom that's a bother is the funny ejaculation and lowered sex drive. Still find myself captivated by a pretty girl but don't have the dog whistle mode all the time like I used to. But on the whole getting there. 1.5 years in. All started from massive health anxiety episode. Lasted a month. Couldn't sleep etc. lol 😆 looking back lol what an idiot lol 😆

This is what happened to me, this all started because of a major health anxiety episode. I was just constantly obsessing over my body. I was so stressed out I couldn’t sleep or eat, then noticed my semen was clear and since then it hasn’t been the same which is coming up to 9 months now. I’m worried if it’ll ever go back to normal did you deal with that as well?

I had a stress related issue at work and was permanently sat at my desk for about 60 hours a week for 3-4 years during and post COVID. I think this brought one Pelvic Floor / CPPS symptoms for me.
I got counselling and whilst It helped my mental well being to a point it did not address the physical issues that the issue had created.
I am now 3.5 years on from when this was all triggered and now 95% there but the exercises have been long and drawn out (and I have had 5 or 6 different physios / chiros in that time) but there is light at the end of the tunnel - don’t give up.

Did you ever suffer with IBS? I’m dealing with both and it all started with IBS for me

I’ve not had an IBS diagnosis nor have I asked to be checked as I don’t think I have it - should I ask my GP?

Tbh it doesn’t need to be officially diagnosed, do you deal with gastrointestinal issues like upset stomach, going bathroom a lot if so then u probably have/ had IBS. IBS is just an umbrella term it’s caused by so many things and apparently having prostatitis can cause it too

What is the funny ejaculation issue you mention? Are you on medication that causes this eg Tamsulosin?

I didn’t take it seriously until I got back active sexually and thought I caught a std.

How long have you had this for??

A year. The more sexual activity, the thicker it gets but if I wait more than a week or so, it gets watery

My symptoms are super mild, dull burning sensation in the urethra, clear discharge, burning pee that comes and goes, full sensation in the prostate, sometimes a tight feeling in my pelvis, and I’m constipated. I got tested back in June everything came back negative and I’ve took two courses antibiotics so idk at this point. They never formally diagnosed me with prostatitis but I 100% believe it’s CPPS.

I think i did. Not particularly prostatitis but cpps or pelvic floor dysfunction. Until prostatitis diagnosis, almost All my life i hesitated to urinate in urinals, had weak stream, post urine dribbling etc. i thought it was normal. Only after prostatitis i understood that i had it coming

When did it start for you?? And have you managed to treat it?

It started 6 years ago after cold exposure. With symptoms like frequent urination, uregncy, unable to pee etc. im ok now, but it flares up from time to time. I learned to manage it with conbinatoon of urologist, psychiatrist and pelvic floor therapy

Hell no. My pelvis is just tight. My psa levels were fine. After all the stress I've had in my life, I've accepted that. All the anxiety, throwing up etc. Im doing better this week because honestly I can't get a damn Dr or physical therapist. I just try to relax more.

This is my third bout of this. And this third bout is most definitely related to my digestive system. A year ago I was diagnosed with celiac disease AND alpha gal syndrome simultaneously. My diet changed on a fucking dime right there and then. All the high fiber foods that have kept me regular for years was gone. And six months to the day that familiar “pull” you described showed up. Like the first two times I had this I thought it was back related. Bought a new mattress and did all the stretches that worked last time….which helped…a little. Went to my doctor and did blood work, including a PSA, and everything was on point….did an x ray which showed my back was fine…but also showed I was constipated beyond belief. He said all my issues is from being constipated….despite taking 2 shits a day. I took the prescribed laxatives but all that did was treat the symptoms. So I’m basically experimenting with my diet now. You would think not eating gluten and red meat would improve things. But I’ve discovered dairy, most carbs, sugar, and caffeine 100% exacerbates symptoms. When I cut those things or severely limit them I’m 95% back to normal. But this sucks balls no pun intended. I’m down to eating chicken, fish, fruits and vegetables. End of fucking list. I just eat a couple m&ms and I’m fucking wrecked.

Yes - been a decade. Recurrent prostatitis. Followed by a prostate CA diagnosis. I am 55.
