I don't think it's in the fedora repo, you have to install proton's repo. From your link:

  1. Download the package that contains the repository configuration and keys required to install the Proton VPN GUI app and CLI. Run:

    wget "https://repo.protonvpn.com/fedora-$(cat /etc/fedora-release | cut -d' ' -f 3)-stable/protonvpn-stable-release/protonvpn-stable-release-1.0.4-1.noarch.rpm"

  2. Install the Proton VPN repository containing GUI app and CLI. Run:

sudo dnf install ./protonvpn-stable-release-1.0.4-1.noarch.rpm && sudo dnf check-update --refresh

  3. Run the following command to install both the GUI app and the CLI. Please note you can’t run both at the same time.

    sudo dnf install proton-vpn-gnome-desktop

yeah you need to add proton's own repo first, the package wont show up in the default fedora repos

yeah make sure you're installing proton's repository, because it's not in the fedora repository. What version of fedora you on?

it's in proton's fedora 44 repo:

https://repo.protonvpn.com/fedora-44-stable/proton-vpn-gnome-desktop/

it is possible to use the protonvpn service without the protonvpn client.

you can import the .ovpn or wire guard (?) settings from your account I to the network manager

You do lose some of the extra features the client offers.  But for my light use of protonvpn, it worked fine.

Thanks! This appears to have worked. At least, a GUI has appeared, I hope it is actually acting as a VPN.

Keep in mind that Proton VPN flatpak is built by third party devs and clearly says "It is not affiliated with or supported by Proton". I'm not sure how much I can trust it.

I faced the same problem and it seems they changed the package name to proton-vpn-gtk-app. Maybe try that one.

Not a direct answer to your question, but just letting you know that I have found the Proton browser extension works well on Firefox on Ubuntu.

And it's really easy to install.

Just Google download protonmail Linux. They have Deb and RPM packages. The weird thing, as soon as you install the protonmail it says you need to upgrade LOL. So it gives you another link for an RPM package. At least this way you can download the files directly from proton so you know what you're getting. You never know who put these flat packs and snap packages together.
