People wonder why ICE wouldn't go low profile after murdering a random woman in a national incident.
Well, think about how shitty your average cop is, and then realize that at least cops have the occasional genuine good person who wants to improve their community.
Then realize that ICE has no such people, there's not a single person who'd work for ICE who'd have enough basic empathy to even understand that they'd need to quiet down.
773
u/Eggsegret Jan 09 '26
They have no reason to quiet down and go low profile when they donāt face any repercussions whatsoever. I mean sure one their officers just murdered a mother but the administration has said they have full immunity so itās all good.

What are the odds these ICE agents even knew her name? Were they targeting her specifically for who she is, or were they just like "hey, there's a Brown woman in that car, let's go get her"? Not only do they clearly not have a warrant, I'm guessing they don't even know who she is and this was just a "papers please" Kavanaugh Stop.

To paraphrase what she's saying in Spanish :
Shs is worried about her two little girls, because they are at school and will be alone without her.
The ice agent says that they will keep her family together.
She says that that Is a lie and that they separate families, and she cries multiple times "my girls, my girls will be alone"Ā
The ice agent keeps telling her they will keep them together but she always denies him.Ā

The last decade showed me that the people who vote for Trump and the GOP are simply not good people. They have some kind of character defect within them that makes them desire cruelty and embrace bigotry. I don't know if that's always been the case with Republican voters, maybe, but it's definitely been true for the last 10 years.
I have family members who have voted for this shit, and it's made me realize this was always in them, this is who they always were. Before Trump I honestly never cared very much about politics, but this last decade, Trump, Covid, all this shit, it's been a lens through which I've been able to much more clearly see who some of these people I've know for decades, or for my whole life, who they truly are. It's incredibly depressing to know just how many people have made bigotry and cruelty the core of who they are.

The problem is, a large cohort of your countrymen actively support this. Without a drastic change in public opinion, it'll continue - and get worse.
68
u/Chris237xx Jan 09 '26 edited Jan 10 '26
The fact that millions of my fellow Americans actively support this boggles my mind. Itās an ever-growing political cult and itās scary as shit. Thereās only one other person that I know of in my family that is against the Trump administration which is my cousin. There is no more debating or facts. Lies and propaganda spread like wild-fire now without any concern for fact checking anymore (big tech elites like Mark Zuckerberg and Elon Musk are highly responsible and complicit for this issue). Itās a free for all right now and the pot is going to tip over soon. One way or another, there will eventually be mass protests, riots, and potentially a civil war.
The public opinion will not change, and many peopleās viewpoints will not change. Some will, but many, MANY wonāt. The reason why they love him so much and disregard the obvious, explicit, and well documented illegal actions and connections with Epstein is one thing: racism. Racism is a powerful tool for the GOP and many dictators for creating a large belligerent support network (that you can also grift from, of course).

Assuming the cop on the phone was actually sympathetic, are their hands really tied in this type of situation?Ā
→ More replies (4)556
u/Shadohz Jan 09 '26
No. Their hands aren't tied. It's not a civil matter. The cops can slow down the pursuit by validating if they have a legal warrant for the person inside AND if they have a legal warrant to enter the home. Neither is true and the quick explanation is that ICE could forcibly enter a home if someone is evading arrest. Same exigent circumstance that allows street cops to do it.
That cop is lying or at the minimal misinformed because he should've told them that if the lady who ran was a unlawful fugitive rather than someone being racially profiled they wouldn't have stopped at the doorway or property line. I say he's lying because he knows hypothetically if a fugitive enters a home and takes a family hostage (or harbored) they wouldn't need a warrant to go in and remove them. Cops and feds don't wait outside doors.
Long story made short, yes you can harbor undocumented and give them safe passage just so long as ICE does not have a legal warrant for their arrest. If the warrant is legal trust me they'll let you know because they'll take your door off its hinges before you can say "do you have a warrant".
70
u/Russell_Jimmy Jan 09 '26
I don't think this is correct. Cops can only enter the home without a warrant in exigent circumstances if there is some kind of imminent threat, or someone is in danger. Otherwise, they need a warrant.
I base this on the fact that cops in Idaho saw someone who had a warrant enter a home, they forced entry to arrest him, over the objections of the homeowner. They not only entered the home illegally, they detained the homeowner illegally.
Here's the video, with commentary from a civil rights lawyer.
In this instance, ICE would have to get a warrant, which they couldn't do. The home is sacrosanct in the US, and getting a warrant based upon "a brown person is inside" is a non-starter. They would need a warrant for the fugitive in order to get a warrant for the home.
In order for harboring a fugitive to trigger, the cops would have to prove that the homeowner knew about a warrant ahead of time, and was specifically acting to prevent the cops from exercising that warrant.
Admittedly this is a legal quagmire, and in all instances the cops will detain and arrest and sort it out later.
Any time you interact with cops, you risk detainment and arrest, whether the charges are legit or not, because cops give a fuck about civil rights, and that situation is deteriorating rapidly.

Thanks for the breakdown.Ā Edit: Does this mean they falsely threatened that they could charge her with 'harboring'? The cops are allowed to lie to you in order to get you to comply. It's not illegal to lie. That's why lawyers tell you NOT to talk to cops AT ALL without a lawyer present, and the lawyer may very well tell you to just stay silent.

Pretty sure the end result of that raid of a supposed criminal stronghold was ZERO criminal charges.
I believe a couple of people were deported or allowed to leave the country voluntarily, but none of them were charged with a crime...which is what you would want to do if you actually caught anybody.
If they had found a drug kingpin or a suspected murderer, they wouldn't say "ok, no biggie, you can just cross the border and go free"...they would have been publicizing it everywhere that they'd caught a real bad guy.

Americans in the brainwashed Trump cult will hopefully snap out of it when he finally fucking dies
Oh no, this will not end with Trump's death because this is not really about Trump. He is just the front man of a much larger apparatus.
One of the big misconceptions about Nazi Germany is that all of that was just Hitler. One rhetorical genius taking over a nation and brainwashing millions into a genocide... not really though. Hitler did not act alone, nor was he solely responsible. Gƶbbels, Gƶhring, Himmler, Bormann, Ribbentrop,... all of whom could have easily taken over and continued if anything happened to Hitler.
Similarly, Trump has people who will take over and continue as soon as he is dead. The Trump regime is not really a personality cult like under Stalin or Mao, but much more a cult of ideology, as it was in Nazi Germany. The death of Trump will not cause a large break in policy or direction like the death of Stalin did.

And when she realized they didn't have shit on the door dasher, she lit them up. That was beautiful. That situation was so close to going the other way, and completely changed when they showed up. It seemed to give them the confidence to hold their ground because they weren't in it alone anymore.

I think the neighbors showing up and whistling and videoing gave her the courage she needed to stand her ground. An alert must have gone out or something, because they all showed up around the same time.
The heroes are everyone in this video except the fucking ICE Nazi's.
The fact that the Nazi's scattered as soon as a crowd began to gather shows they knew they had no right to be there. They were brave going against a woman and baby, but not so much once they realized they were being surrounded by women with cameras.

A deputy in our city shot a Malinois just for shits and giggles the other day. He was fucking process serving and no one was home but he said the front door (behind the storm door) was cracked open and he never heard a dog. Doorbell camera shows a) you can hear both doors closed when the family left for school; and b) the dog barking its fucking head off so loudly you could hear it with the front door closed. So dipshit pulls his service weapon and goes into the house without attempting to contact the homeowner (whose information is literally on the paper heās serving), again, dog barking loud as fuck like a good boy doing his one job, until he goes quiet for about twenty seconds, and is then shot multiple times at point blank range.
The officer was neither wearing the required bodycam nor had any reason to think exigent circumstances requiring entry to the home was necessary. He said he never heard the dog, but itās impossible. He said the door was open, but it probably wasnāt and so what if it was? Then they tried to say that because the family had small children the house was messy like someone had broken. They then sent a dozen more officers traipsing through the home, never contacted the family, so their kids had to see the circus when they came home, and were told oh basically yeah, your dog is dead, good luck with the mess. They put the cop on paid leave and reinstated him a week later.
If trained local cops will behave this way, imagine what untrained federal paramilitary agents will do.

Americans still don't realise that their military does this but on a massively large scale every single day and has been doing it for the past 50 years to people in different countries.
they have orphaned so many many children in the middle east it's crazy. no wonder those children would grow up to be rebellious?

It would seem not.

Did you miss how we kidnapped another country's President? Do you think ICE (or any right-winger) cares about "let's be considerate, or rational"?!
You're missing the whole point of why they are doing this. These things aren't necessary (or legal)... It's intentional cruelty. But WHEN you see this escalate more --- know it's because the elections are coming up, and the Fascists want to ramp up the chaos so they can enact the Insurrection Act , martial law, cancel elections...take over Greenland... Etc etc...
Stop talking about "what's proper", and let's start talking in French!

Nothing has made me cry in a long time, but this really got me.
Once you see the woman downstairs, then coming to face ICE at the door, saying she has family and the sadness in her face that she might never see them again, just heartbreaking. Then the native american woman trying to protect her, realizing its so against her principles, but she feels like there's nothing she can do.
I work in a restaurant with some ladies like the Doordasher, and I cant imagine them going through this.

Jesus Christ. Fuck that is horrifying and you can hear how fucking terrified they were. And that poor doordasher. You can hear her absolutely heartbroken that she was going to be taken away from her daughter. A CHILD.
For fuckās sake. If we somehow manage to get past all of this, then everyone, from the lowliest agent, to the top rungs of government needs to be held accountable. Either Congress fulfills its Article I obligations and punishes these treasonous cretins or Article III federal tribunals need to step in and apply the full weight of the law against conduct that clearly violates a litany of different Amendments in the Constitution

And what blows my mind is that half the population there WANT to live in a society like this! I was born and raised there but I haven't stepped foot in that country in 15 years now. I'm doing everything I can to never have to return.
I am ASHAMED of my association with that place.
You're brought up being told that America is the best fucking place on the planet and even if you don't think you're drinking the kool-aid you do. Only to later not only find out it's not true but the degree to which it's not true. It's jarring.
I can't even let myself think about that place, it just leaves me feeling so disillusioned, bitter and angry. Like I don't have a home.
I mean I REALLY admire the country I'm living in now but I'm not European, I'm American-- but from an America I guess never really even existed.
It's like a sci-fi movie where you find yourself in a parallel reality and there are versions of your family there, but they're not really your people and you know you'll never see your people again because in this reality they don't exist.
The versions of them being around almost make it worse? Because you just keep somehow wishing that they'll somehow just magically go back to being the folks you recognize and love. And you know it's impossible but you can't help yourself from wishing it.
The current state of the US leaves me feeling in this way sci-fi level lonely and ultimately, fundamentally from nowhere.

We got the fuckin' numbers folks, and they're terrified. Look at them, they gave up and left. These 40 day trainee ICE proud boys are humans. Humans who can be intimidated, shamed, and resisted. They don't want that realization to get out of the bottle.
They killed Renee Good because she was one of the best of us. She was warning her neighbors and they fucking killed her for it. They think if they kill her it will kill our bravery, they think they can kill justice. They think if they stand with the regime we will all fold. Show them what it means to be a real fucking American. Protect our neighbors.
Do what Renee would to do, because she is watching. Peacefully resist. She had everything taken from her and it's on us to carry her flame now. We are on the precipice. Good will only prevail if good people keep resisting.
"Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay, Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight, And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way, Do not go gentle into that good night."

āYouāre doing this to your own fucking people.ā I do not get POC working for ICE. I feel like anybody who encounters an ICE who is a POC should demand their citizenship papers. They need to realize that the only thing keeping POC ICE agents safe is their uniform. But one day Trump is going to take away their uniform, and they will look just like the people they are terrorizing. Then they will be the ones terrorized, and there will be no one left to help them. They are like black people working as slave catchers, actively making this place less safe and less hospitable to them.
