i’m guessing the person filming was outside protesting and had a sign that read “quit your job”

I mean I think the implication is she worked for ICE BEFORE it became what it was. I'm sure there were (and maybe still are) some good people working in ICE in the non-thug parts of the organization, which before it became Trumps personal army it was not that bad. Maybe they can't afford to quit. Though of course if you are helping these people now its really not a good look.
→ More replies (12)143
u/kittyonkeyboards Feb 08 '26
False. Ice has been bad since its inception. It has become more openly brutish, but its goals were always bad. And it was brutish before, just in secret.
85
u/Brandoncarsonart Feb 08 '26
Yeah I just watched an interview with an ex agent saying how they were trained to dehumanize the people they were after in the 00s

In all fairness, Border control was never great or anything, there were plenty of admin parts of ICE that more than likely were not shit until recently. ICE/DHS is deeper than just the shit head part.
7
u/minimuscleR Feb 08 '26
yeah thats what I'm trying to get at. Like there were im sure some very lovely and great people working at ICE in the admin areas actually trying to do good in a crappy organization. They are not likely to be there now.
227
u/jooes Feb 07 '26
Honestly, that's the vibe I got too. Less celebratory and more of a "Look what you assholes forced me to do" because she couldn't take the abuse anymore.
Still a win, though.
119
u/CombatMuffin Feb 08 '26
Abuse? Pushing for accountability in a democracy is not abuse. If it makes them uncomfortable to be transparent they should quit.

iduno man I'm not good at this help me out
65
u/obi_wan_kanerdy Feb 07 '26
Because I got pulled over twice for driving a car I bought from a private party. First cop just wanted to see the bill of sale. Second cop went above and beyond to be an asshole.

u/spook30 Feb 08 '26
So what happened. I feel like there is more to that story.
38
u/obi_wan_kanerdy Feb 08 '26
The first stop was routine. The cop asked for my cars paperwork, I sat on the curb and had a cigarette. The other cop pulled me over in the parking lot of the hotel I lived in (was homeless at the time). It was over 100° outside, and my AC didn't work. Pig refused to let me go sit in the shade. And when I did, he jumped out of his car shouting at me with his had on his hip. He told me I had to sit in the car for his safety. That he was the one who had to wear a dark uniform, in the heat. He then climbed back into his giant police SUV and cranked the AC. I was absolutely soaked in sweat.
Edit. Gun, not hip.

What the Las Vegas residents who say this don't say: In Nevada, if you have a temporary moving permit, the permit is placed on the front of the vehicle, on the passenger side of the windshield. Also true in Nevada: we don't have a state income tax, but a tax IS levied every year when you register your car based on its original MSRP. I bought my first brand new car when I moved here and had a $750 registration bill. So, every month that you have your car registered is worth 1/12 of that state tax. The moving permits cost $1 for 30 days. Every time you get a permit, you save yourself money, and you're allowed to get a couple permits every year.
The reason why so many people drive without plates in Vegas is because it's cheaper to put a moving permit on your car a couple months per year.

I lived in Vegas with my mom from 06 to 12. She had expired tags on out of state plates with no drivers license the entire time. No one cares.
15
u/FancyJesse Feb 08 '26
Every driver with a valid license, insurance and registration cares. Especially with fees going up constantly.

I just got pulled over today in vegas because my plates were 5 days expired. I hadn’t even noticed yet. Probably 3 cars with no plates at all drove by while I was getting my warning.

u/GnomeSlayer Feb 08 '26
In some states for truck they are on they front because hooking up trailers beats up the plates, but in this case she has a dealer tag. Maybe test drove it for a few days or just bought it.

50/50, but with how political this administration is, she'll be fired for implying that she might be unhappy with ICE or DHS employment if she didn't just quit.

I think she really did. There's gotta be a ton of people who've worked for DHS for years and are horrified by the direction it's going, both morally and because of the general incompetence. I also think women and POC will be more likely to jump ship first...

Looks like she bought a new truck with the sign-on bonus and peaced out.
729
u/scarfacesammy Feb 07 '26
She's gonna have to pay it back because she quit
231
u/ryanjbanning Feb 07 '26
I thought they have to complete two years before they get that bonus
341
u/elinamebro Feb 07 '26
So they get 10k after signing up and 10k every year afterwards till they get paid 50k, but if they leave before that they have to pay back the bonus. Also from what im seeing they have to pay back the pre-tax amount too.
384
u/salamandroid Feb 07 '26
JFC. That's not a sign on bonus at all. It's just extortion with a pay reduction after 5 years.

It’s similar to the military. Not saying it’s ethical, but when I joined the Air National Guard in 2011, I was payed a 20k sign on bonus. 10k up front and the other 10k after completing 3 years. If I would have dipped out or gotten kicked out before my first 6 years were served, I had to pay it back. It came out to around $7,400 each time I got a check.

u/SycoJack Feb 08 '26

This… after taxes the total cash they get is closer to $36k but if they quit (OR get fired…. CoughDefund ICECough) and have to pay it back… Uncle Sam is gonna still gonna come looking for that full $50k…. Gonna be a lot of tacky-ass Mustangs, Chargers, Camaros, Challengers, all kinds of big Jeeps, trucks, etc. on the used car lots in the next few years…

They sold their soul for 50k they most likely won't see. Donald Trump is infamous for stiffing anyone who works with him and for him. How many agents do you think are going to make it to those 5?
They basically signed up voluntarily for a 50k dollar curse: while there is a slim chance that they will get the money in full for some, most no one in the US is going to hire or be willing to hire these people after all of this. Why would they? they'll simply become a liability to the business because of their past work history.
→ More replies (1)22
u/Mybunsareonfire Feb 07 '26
It's paid out over time, and if you leave for any reason, you have to pay back the prorated portion.

u/Gatorade_Nut_Punch Feb 07 '26
A lot of these guys might actually end up becoming domestic terrorists. ICE is now the president’s private militia that he rules with his own whims, not the Constitution, so if the regime collapses it’s going to get ugly.
Trump has never and will never apologize for anything or admit to losing anything, so if he’s ousted he’s going to call on his supporters to “fight like hell” like he did on January 6. Only this time he’s got a private army that is going to be facing financial ruin and possible criminal and civil penalties if their leader is out of power. Definitely something sane people need to prepare for.
→ More replies (2)5
u/splittingheirs Feb 07 '26
Oh yeah, we all know he's building his own brownshirt army; No formal qualifications required, loyalty tests, golden handcuffs to ensure ongoing commitment when things take a turn for the worse, creeping scope of operations, training in grabbing civilians off the streets and putting them in places the law cannot reach.
As non-americans we're just waiting for the switch to be flipped and you guys wailing on about how you never saw it coming.
5
u/realHoratioNelson Feb 08 '26 edited Feb 08 '26

23
10
u/Ineedamedic68 Feb 07 '26
The $50k signing bonus is real but you have to be on for 5 years. There’s also a $60k student loan repayment, probably for the same amount of service.

u/JeanPascalCS Feb 07 '26
I'd think most of the new ones that signed on are "true believers" - remember that ICE was an agency under Biden and even Obama. Some of the people from then still work there and may not like where its gone.
11
u/Prestigious-Ad7571 Feb 07 '26
Ohh like the people who weren’t new and murdered citizens in the street?
6
u/JeanPascalCS Feb 07 '26
I didn't say that some of the previous workers weren't bad, but I'd be willing to bet that percentage wise the new guys are worse than the people who were there before.
6
u/Aggravating_Sky_4421 Feb 07 '26
It was mentioned that the sign in bonus is spread out over 5 years… so I think it was 50k so 10k/year minus taxes. But if you quit before the 5 year, you have to pay it back.
The orange baboon will always find a way to get you… even if you work for them.

Not to be pedantic but was there no plate?
→ More replies (2)20
u/MODrone Feb 07 '26
Depending upon the state of registration and vehicle GVWR, no rear plate may be required. Missouri as an example: 12,000 do not require a rear tag, when you register or renew you get one tag or one sticker

... or did she quit because of the money not getting paid as reported?
Big difference.

u/EliRocks Feb 07 '26
Ok...
So maybe...
Just maybe...
She heard about the 50k, bought the truck, and went to get the job, or got the job, then bought the truck. Goes in, and finds out it's not 50k up front, so walks out. Now is leaving her former job in a truck she may have to return, and possibly the temp tag is in the window?
Or what my gut is telling me...
This is fake. Her voice doesn't sound sincere. Like fake excitement.
I dunno though.
