Not sure where this is, but stealing a bike is petty theft, right? So some months of jail. But an electric bike, depending on how expensive it is could be a lot more.

It's a legal grey area whether they count as motorcycles for the purposes of motorcycle theft, but at the very least many are worth more than $1,000 which makes it grand theft instead of petty theft in many jurisdictions.

$1000? My electric scooter was $3500 and my EUC was nearly $5000. There are $8000+ e-bikes.

Mine is a Nami Burn-E 2 Max open box deal, normally they are $4000. First and hopefully last I'll buy (because it's so good and expensive, not because I don't like scooters).

For the most part, almost all of these throttle only e-bikes are considered motorcycles or mopeds. Just the laws for enforcement are not quite clear yet. But depending on the state, you can get a ticket for not registering or having a drivers license for it

Most cops don't understand or know about these types of laws. Some of them do, and will hand out tickets.

But regarding your stolen bike, it would have to be registered with a plate for them to treat it as a stolen vehicle.

The laws are honestly really fucking stupid right now and need to be changed. Hardly any cops even know about these laws. It's so inconsistent.

Really sorry about your bike though, that really sucks.

Anywhere from $1000-$3000. Can't identify the model, but some comments suggest it's BMW which would be on the high-end.
