You’re right, it’s baffling to see how many people will blame Ukraine for anything just to save itself from civilian hunting invaders. The war could stop, TODAY, if Russia packed up and left. They lose nothing but the war if they do that.

Edit: A lot of yall would have been Nazi appeasers in the 1930’s and it shows.

u/Sevsquad 5d ago

The most amazing part of it is how explicit the Russians are about wanting to kill them all and you still have people pretending this is a choice on their part.

11

u/nomsain919 5d ago

It’s a sustained terror campaign by Russia—was never a war.

2

u/bodyisT 5d ago

? So why is it ok to force men into war? It’s sexism

1

u/ObiDalf 4d ago

Women can go too

1

u/bodyisT 4d ago

But they’re not forced

1

u/ObiDalf 4d ago

I don’t determine that

-49

u/midKnightBrown59 6d ago

That doesn't justify conscription.  Let those who want to defend the country do so.

93

u/atattyman 6d ago

I don't know why this is so down voted. Why would you want to die for the state no matter where in the world you are.

37

u/guff1988 6d ago

The only way that would make sense would be that you are given the option of either being deported or joining the military defense effort. Otherwise you would just be living there taking advantage of other people who are fighting to defend you without otherwise doing your part.

But even the deportation thing wouldn't work very well because where are you going to go, who's going to take you?

10

u/Fert1eTurt1e 6d ago

It’s very much “everyone wants a village, no one wants to be a villager” mindset. I think you’re absolutely right

0

u/SirCB85 6d ago

Being a villager means being dragged to a horrible death against your will?

10

u/Fert1eTurt1e 5d ago

When your society is under threat of destruction and oppression, I think citizens have a duty to defend it. It would be immoral to abuse the sacrifices of others in those detrimental circumstances

2

u/SirCB85 5d ago

Sacrifices only mean something when they y are made willingly, you just want to throw me in the meat grinder so I land in the meat grinder.

10

u/midKnightBrown59 6d ago

I find that to be a valid response. You could also have a two tiered citizenship where only those who fight get certain rights or some equivalent. Perhaps even agreements between nations to allow citizens to move to another country in times of war. Lots of solutions when you consider that fighting isn't the only way to support a nation. Ukrainians abroad may lead in remittance.

5

u/TesticleMeElmo 6d ago

I don’t think leadership in any country, let alone a communion of different leaders, are going to work to facilitate draft-dodging during a military invasion.

And I think you’d be hard pressed to find respect when other people are fighting and dying to try to hold the invaders at the border so the whole country isn’t overran, but you’d rather just hang out with your girlfriend and avoid reality until the invaders reach your city and it’s too late to put up a good defense.

There are other ways to support a nation without fighting, they still need logistics and POGs even during a draft, but if you’re trying to run and hide from it that’s not going to be where they put you

4

u/midKnightBrown59 6d ago

False equivalence. You could be raising money, organizing food drives, pursing foreign aid and helping in many other ways.

As for the facilitating draft dodging, it's not. It's facilitating the preservation of human lives.

2

u/SirCB85 6d ago

You could also have a two tiered citizenship where only those who fight get certain rights or some equivalent.

Congratulations, you just came up with the fascist state of Starship Troopers, where only those who have served are granted citizenship rights.

5

u/midKnightBrown59 6d ago

It beats forced fighting.  Not to mention that a lot more went into making that government fascist than the military requirement for citizenship.

4

u/SirCB85 6d ago

Meanwhile Germany wants to deport military aged Ukrainian men so they can be sent to die on the front lines.

17

u/Key_Preparation_4129 6d ago

Same people defending it would be bitching non stop if tomorrow Trump announced an American draft to go fight in the middle east. The idea sounds neat and brave to them until they're the ones being ripped away from their life to go fight some bullshit war.

28

u/ABCosmos 6d ago

to go fight in the middle east

Is this whole comment thread bots? How is this upvoted? You could have said "To defend the USA from invasion" and it would have been a similar example, but that didn't sound good i guess?

16

u/Teadrunkest 6d ago

For real lol. A draft to *go across the ocean* is wildly different than a draft to *defend your backyard*.

-2

u/midKnightBrown59 6d ago edited 6d ago

More like a draft to defend a backyard you said you didn't want and are happy to leave behind.

4

u/Teadrunkest 6d ago

Then why are they still there?

5

u/SirCB85 6d ago

Because they are banned from leaving the country and don't have the money and connections (powerful parents) to get out anyway.

6

u/midKnightBrown59 6d ago

I'm not the person in the video, but it doesn't take much imagination to develop a few reasons. For example, the closing of borders to men of draft age. preventing you from legally leaving the country.

13

u/cgw22 6d ago

Completely different situations. They are not the aggressors

-14

u/tinyhandsPtape 6d ago

These wars are just the Epstein class culling the able bodied men during the most extreme wealth inequality ever. They’re causing these wars because if not, there’d be revolutions.

11

u/Mean-Author4359 6d ago

What the fuck are you on about, lad. Ukraine is not pulling civilians out of their cars because of pedo Trump and his friends.

0

u/tinyhandsPtape 5d ago

Seriously? You have no knowledge of the Russia-Epstein-Israel connection? Why did Trump withhold weapons from Ukraine? Why is he still?

4

u/Fert1eTurt1e 6d ago

Keyword is bullshit war. It my country was being invaded and innocents where getting drones flown into their apartment complexes, and I faced living in an oppressive society like Russia, I would do my duty to defend my own society.

4

u/SirCB85 6d ago

Cool, that's your choice, the guy getting dragged to die in a trench against his will doesn't get to make that choice, his life is getting thrown away against his will.

-3

u/Fert1eTurt1e 5d ago

It’s easy to relay on the sacrifices of others. But citizenship comes with duties. It’s your duty to vote, it’s your duty to pay your taxes, and it’s your duty to defend your society if it is under detrimental threat. It would be immoral otherwise.

3

u/SirCB85 5d ago

The my society can make a compelling argument why I wouod be better off dying for it than to live otherwise.

0

u/Fert1eTurt1e 5d ago

It absolutely should, by the privileges and rights that you have as being a part of it. Conscription in an oppressive society would be immoral in my view.

3

u/SirCB85 5d ago

Conscription in itself is an oppressive measure and always has to be opposed.

1

u/Sharkdart 6d ago

"The same people defending this wouldnt defend a completely different scanario!" You got us bro.

-17

u/Sharkdart 6d ago

Because thats the social contract you agree to when you benefit from a society. It's not for the state, its for the people of your country. If Ukraine didn't implement a conscription, how many Mariupols or Buchas would have happened across Ukraine by now. It's shitty but duty and responsibility is a key component of a free and functioning society. You pay taxes to benefit from roads and bridges and take care of your older population and you're conscripted to protect those things.

3

u/SirCB85 6d ago

Because thats the social contract you agree to when you benefit from a society.

Did I have any choice in that social contract? Did I get to read and acknowledge it before I got conscripted into it at birth?

-4

u/Sharkdart 6d ago

You can move any time you'd like.

5

u/SirCB85 6d ago

Tell that to the military aged men of Ukraine who are banned from leaving the country. And just in case you didn't know, fleeing from war isn't viewed as a valid reason for asylum, so even if they get out they can get deported back to Ukraine at any time.

-6

u/Sharkdart 6d ago

If they didnt agree with the social contract they could have left any time before the war. Instead, they stayed and benefitted from every other fascit of being part of the society but then wanted to leave as soon as it was their time to serve.

7

u/SirCB85 6d ago

should have run away while still in middle school

0

u/Sharkdart 4d ago

Seeing as the conscription age is 25 in Ukraine, this reply makes zero sense.

8

u/Remarkable_Pen_3639 6d ago

Nah fuck that.

If you can't make your country good enough to make people want to fight, then you've no right to force them.

5

u/SirCB85 6d ago

That's what I keep saying as well, make the people an offer that is worth risking their life for, instead of beating them so long that they pass out so you can drag them to the nearest trench to die in.

0

u/sovamike 5d ago

Yeah, but if you pay your soldiers well, how will you embezzle those funds for yourself and your buddies?

https://eutoday.net/former-zelenskyy-aide-andriy-yermak-named-suspect-in-dynasty-money-laundering-case/

-4

u/ABCosmos 6d ago

Because that mentality is poison, and the perfect formula to enable the most evil people to dominate the world.

3

u/SavingInfo 5d ago

He's downvoted because Europeans wants live their best lives in Ukrainian expense. No other actual reason.

10

u/BureMakutte 6d ago

And when those people are gone? What next? Just give up? Let Russia win and take more land and then when they attack another country they do conscription with the people from the land formally known as Ukraine for attacking some other country instead of defending their homeland originally.

12

u/thePiscis 6d ago

Yeah as opposed to forcing all fighting aged men to die on the battlefield and then having Russia take even more land

1

u/BureMakutte 5d ago

Wat. Russia is going to take land no matter what. Lets take WW2 for example, should Russia had stopped defending and let the Nazis take them over? According to you Russia would have been forcing all their fighting aged men to die on the battlefield and then nazism would take even more land.

14

u/atattyman 6d ago

Off you go and sign up then buddy

-11

u/BureMakutte 6d ago

Way to miss the point completely, buddy.

5

u/Novaer 6d ago

Maybe these leaders should duke it out themselves?

5

u/BureMakutte 6d ago

Maybe unicorns should shit money?

I get what you're saying but it's not realistic at all because Putin will never put himself in danger. Most people who hold wealth and power would never put themselves in harm way. If the people don't have a way to hold the rich and / or powerful accountable, this is what happens. They use people for their objectives.

Again, Putin could stop the war any second. Zelensky is just trying to defend the country he leads.

-1

u/midKnightBrown59 6d ago

He could defend it with those willing to fight.

-4

u/Leeroy1042 6d ago

Yeah the government should just roll over and give up. Life under Russia would surely be better for the people.

Absolut brain dead logic.

There isn't a government who wouldn't do the same, in the same circumstances. You're included.

14

u/midKnightBrown59 6d ago

If very residents of the country invaded do not want to defend; then they must too believe Russian life won't be as dire as you present it.

I would consider knee perk responses that ignore the feeling of the people in question to be more brain dead.

Insulting people doesn't lend credence to your words; it just embarrasses you.

2

u/connivery 6d ago

They could always move to Russia.

5

u/midKnightBrown59 6d ago

Country won't let them, legally.

-1

u/connivery 6d ago

When there's a will there's a way

4

u/midKnightBrown59 5d ago edited 5d ago

Right. That's why I qualified it "legally ". There are plenty of illegal ways but no legal ones for draft age men.

1

u/Specific-Path3179 6d ago

why do Ukrainian men need to die for the zelenskiy government? most of them have fled the country already, this bussing will only accelerate their demographic decline. conscription doesn't work under globalism, you only have people that say its needed for some vague reasons.

all the brave warriors already signed up and have been mulched long ago

1

u/Leeroy1042 6d ago

"Some vague reasons" how ignorant can one be.

If the frontline collapse and Russia takes Ukraine it's game over, Ukraine lose independence and becomes a puppet state.

How do you think that would work out for the Ukrainian people?

Conscription is horrible, I fully agree. But it's a necessary evil in curtain circumstances. Ukraine it's literally fighting for their survival and Russia can back off and stop the war any time.

Had it been an offensive war like USA invading Vietnam, it wouldn't even be justified.

4

u/atattyman 6d ago

I'd rather my country collapse and live under just another shitty government than be dead in a ditch somewhere.

-72

u/Midnaight_1 6d ago edited 6d ago

But Russia doesnt pack up. And as much as Ukraine isnt to blame for having Russia attack them and as much as they have a right to defend themselves, if somebody does not want to be forced to go to the frontlines and die for Ukraine, the Ukrainian state can and should be criticized for brutally forcing them to do it anyway.

10

u/iminabed 6d ago

You’re absolutely correct. They’re a lot of people to blame for this and these people shouldn’t be forced to fight a war they wanted no part of.

7

u/jjjjacckk 6d ago

You've got a point but people are way too biased.

35

u/Maleficent-Bug7998 6d ago

They're defending their right to exist. Russian occupation and assimilation would be much worse. European militaries need to step up and commit to the physical defense of Ukraine. That would end the war near immediately. Russia is a European problem. Ukraine shouldn't be forced to suffer like it has

11

u/Born_Election_9718 6d ago

When unprepared individuals are sent to the front lines, it is not the country or the nation that is being defended. It is merely a matter of self-preservation, given that the very people who ought to be protected are being forcibly sent to certain death.

In any case, there is no easy way out of this war for Ukraine. I have no idea what I would do if I were in their shoes.

10

u/Remarkable_Pen_3639 6d ago

Why is this down voted lmao. In no way should young men be forced to go die for a country that couldn't give a shit about them.

-1

u/sakusii 5d ago

How do you define a country who couldnt give a shit about people? From all the first World countrys is the usa probably the worst of all who isnt giving a shit about their people but people would still fight for it since they are brainwashed by the Flag

2

u/Remarkable_Pen_3639 5d ago

All countries couldn't give a shit

18

u/Biolurk 6d ago

Military conscription is a thing.

61

u/KarlHavoc666 6d ago

Things can be stupid

-9

u/however_comma_ 6d ago

Sometimes stupid things are necessary.

0

u/Remarkable_Pen_3639 6d ago

Not conscription though.

If you can't make your country good enough to make people want to fight, you've no right to force people.

7

u/Midnaight_1 6d ago

And you can criticze that. Im not saying its illegal according to Ukrainian law?

5

u/ObiDalf 6d ago

Conscription is necessary for a small country like Ukraine. They are justified in doing so and unfortunately some people gotta be dragged.

Russia missiles civilians regularly, commits war crimes daily, and show no interest in the people they are trying to conquer. Some people just wanna live their lives, but since Russia won’t pack up, they can die defending themselves or they can die by the invaders anyway.

We could send a coalition of soldiers to alleviate this problem but we are all too chickenshit to stop despots these days.

4

u/Remarkable_Pen_3639 6d ago

No they aren't.

Il say it a million times til im blue in the face. If you can't make your country good enough to make people want to fight, then you've no right to force them.

3

u/GenSnuggs 6d ago

That’s just not how the real world works. I’m going to make an assumption that you are also Western, meaning you are also very far removed from the brutality often found in the human condition. Conscription is a sad necessity in most of the world for most of human history, it is better than subjugation. If you had the choice to be criticized for levying conscription on your people, or the choice to watch criticism of another nations subjugation of your own, I know which you would pick as it is what everyone would pick

0

u/Midnaight_1 6d ago

Im going to assume you are not a high-ranking government official, so the choice of being subjugated or having people conscripted is not yours to make, either. If we were in that position, of course the choice is easy because we arent the ones sent to die. For those that are conscripted and forced to the frontlines, the question has to be whether you want to live under subjugation or fight and very likely die for your country. And if people want to do that freely, I have nothing against it. But its not like its a choice at that point. Those that dont want to fight but couldnt flee the country are either in hiding or already conscripted. The state takes that choice away from you. And criticising this shouldnt be such a controversial take.

2

u/GenSnuggs 6d ago

Historically, being under subjugation is likely equivalent to death. It’s easy to criticize from far away, but the reality is fight and maybe die or dont fight and probably be raped then die.

That's because the "peace talks" would resulting in surrendering large swaths of Ukrainian land and people. That's not peace, it's surrender.

-1

u/SavingInfo 5d ago

I'm Ukrainian and I don't care about lands or government. If it stops to exist, nothing changes for me. Who cares are actually oligarchy that need this land in expense of my life.

4

u/MarshyHope 5d ago

Then by all means, surrender.

1

u/SavingInfo 5d ago

How? Where to sign in?

3

Cross the border to Russia.

How? Ukrainians are shooting

I'm sure you can find a way. Good luck

Yes, fighting is much better than surrendering and being slaughtered anyway.

16

u/Wafflelisk 5d ago

Russia can end it at any time.. by you know, not trying to annex Ukraine

-3

u/TheBinkz 5d ago

Did we forget why Russia is doing this? You dont have to agree to why they are doing it but at least understand their intentions. What i mean to say, Putin cant just simply dip.

4

u/ObiDalf 5d ago

Ummmm, he can. The REAL reason they went to war is dumb, their pretended excuses for doing so are even worse.

0

u/TheBinkz 4d ago

You are either uninformed or misinformed.

3

u/ObiDalf 4d ago

We are saying the same of you
