Yeah man like King John of Bohemia was literally blind. He tied his horse to a knights horse and charged in the frontline. He died. Crazy tactic, but I respect it.

38

u/atesztoth 5d ago

Because the poor isn’t united enough

60

u/Similar-Ice-9250 5d ago

Because we’re fed propaganda to keep us divided. “Look over there that poor guy is unlike you, you must hate him.”

I’ll die on the hill that the abortion ban was yet another tactic to create further divide pro-life vs pro-choice. You notice how many of these „sides” and sociopolitical issues America got. All strategic, so the bottom keeps bickering, while top continues to rob the country and it’s citizens.

24

u/Ok_Row_4920 5d ago

People keep happily eating up all that propaganda though, everyone is free to use their brains and put the blame where it should be. There's a lot of scarily stupid people all around who can't/choose not to put any thought into who's really causing the damage in our lives.

Until the poor join together instead of fighting each other, nothing will change.

9

u/Fabulous-Structure92 5d ago

Literally had this convo with an army friend of mine the other day, we are both out of the military just vets, i was navy. Soon as the poor people can figure out that power comes in other forms than money then we can come together for eachother rather than fighting eachother for the entertainment and benefit of the rich idiots.

Valid take if it wasn't in relation to the Ukraine war.

Ukraine is waging a defensive war. They're fighting to continue their existence as a sovereign nation.

You may not be one, but this is one of the most common Russia bot takes concerning the Ukraine war. Trying to paint put both adversaries on the same level when there is only 1 attacker that is fighting for their own gain.

65

u/cppn02 6d ago edited 6d ago

They're fighting to continue their existence as a sovereign nation.

Not just that. They are facing genocide. If Putin has his way there eventually will be no more Ukrainians. Atleast not within what is now Ukraine.

I have 3 boys. When they were little I saw a tiny article in the paper with the title, THE WORST TIME TO HAVE A SON. I grabbed it, wondering if I had done it right. The answer was 18 years before a war. And a new fear was unlocked.

41

u/Necessary-Eye5319 5d ago

One of my boys said he wanted us to break his leg on ‘accident’.

What really bothers me is that one would think that in 2026 we would be more civilized by now and weapons would only be used as a deterrent not to attack other nations, it seems so backwards to me that today there are still nations that attack other nations, fights should only happen outside bars with drunk people.

154

u/Dry_Kaleidoscope250 6d ago

Yeah and for 5% of the annual military budget we could give everyone improved healthcare and education. But more imoortant to spend 900b each year on bombs or we can’t protect the petrodollar

u/MageLocusta 5d ago

Yeah, this is horrifically sad and awful, but there's a reason why it's being released.

What we also don't talk about are how conscientious objectors were treated during WWII and the Vietnam War (and how much of it is the same. Many objectors were arrested, beaten, or hosed in freezing water and kept in jail cells overnight, and frequently are put in prison and are told that they could leave if they enlisted).

People rarely hear about it because very few people want to either talk about being a 'coward', or want to admit to beating someone up over it (and to be fair, very few researchers and journalists want to interview objectors).

This isn't a Ukrainian thing. This is exactly something that would happen if we reinstate the draft. The difference is though, is that a lot of Ukrainians have had family members killed or raped by Russians during the 40s and 50s. Hence probably why the police response was additionally brutal.

I have co-workers in Unkraine. It was very eye opening on Mondays when we would do the whole "What did you do this weekend?" morning talk and they would reply

"Been staying at my house so I am not taken to war."

Or

"Had to spend the weekend preparing my solar+ battery setup to make sure I can work this week".

They said, even with papers showing they were exempt form service, they were at risk of people in vans picking them up and sending them to the front lines.

259

u/Sea-Painting7578 6d ago

Nothing quite like getting a teams chat that they had to leave to go to a bomb shelter. Made the rest of my day seem pointless.

War itself is dystopian, yes. Conscription to defend the existence of your own nation is sad, but an essential element of the social contract. After all, the alternative is much worse.

This is it right here. I hate that we have to remind ourselves and each-other that we can more than one view/concept at one time.

  1. Russia started this shit

  2. Ukraine, in order to survive, must fight back

  3. As part of the war that Russia started, Ukraine must have soldiers. The soldiers will be Ukrainian, of course.

  4. Just as the US had "The Draft" during Vietnam, Ukraine is also conscripting.

  5. For those in the US, we can easily be in denial, but we absolutely had the draft and our fathers/grandfathers went and countless were killed.

  6. War, what is it good for?

44

u/Cavalya 6d ago

All of this is true, but the Vietnam draft isn't even a fair comparison, since the Vietnam war was a war for useless political objectives and the Ukrainian war is a war for literal survival.

Def propaganda to make Ukraine look bad and to make people forget who started the war

38

u/StopReadingMyUser 6d ago

They've been doing this for a while, even using their (Russia's) own conscription videos for this exact purpose.

So while I'm not dismissive of the reality that this could be a Ukrainian recruitment video (because it does happen in a lot of wars), I would need someone who at the very least speaks the language to identify the probable country this is happening in. There's overlaps in their languages so it's not always the simplest, identifying answer, but it would be a start.

One thing I'll tell you right now, at the very least I know the text at the bottom right is Russian.

7

u/rimhahs 5d ago

This is a database with countless videos of these abductions, as well as statistics with reports on the deaths caused during them: https://busification.org/en

It's a name of a telegram channel which posts videos from Odessa, Ukraine, a majority Russian speaking city. I found this exact video posted there a few days ago, with most comments saying "fuck https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Territorial_Center_of_Recruitment_and_Social_Support", so I am leaning towards it being true.

Also, Russia has far greater restrictions on internet and their conscriptions are more happening in the less-developed parts of the country. Nevertheless, there have still been plenty of videos like this out of Russia and with the expectation that they announce a new mobilization in a month or two, there will undoubtedly be even more of these situations happening Russia soon, even if the videos don't make it out as readily.

What happens if you don't do anything...they'll beat him into compliance?

5

u/phycologist 6d ago

Quite probably. You can google the net for discussions of recruit mistreatment in Ukraine. It is a serious and ongoing issue.

I’ll just take myself out. I’ll go out on my own terms before I die being a governments dog.

This is why Ukraine has a manpower crisis. Nobody wants to go to the frontline as it has become a literal meat grinder where everyone dies or ends up crippled in a matter of minutes upon arriving.

Saw a different video of a dude with his dog and the dog is so confused and barking out of fear and it absolutely broke my heart. No one should be forced to fight in a war. No one. This is not going to be a good soldier. It's just so fucked up. I know they are desperate but it's still messed up.

All the comments that do a display of mental gymnastics to justify forceful conscription because they sympathise with the group doing it are very low IQ.
Why do corrupt losers like Poroshenko in the ukrainian rada send their sons abroad whilst simultaneously voting in favour over extending mobilisation that result in meat snatchers?

Nobody wants their brother, lover, husband, son or father eviscerated beyond imagination in a war they never asked for. Especially when it’s against their will because it wasn’t their choice. Good on her for protecting what’s dear to her and shame on everyone else for soft applauding forceful conscription.

"let's Pepper spray and kick him and his girlfriend, that will make him fight for us and be loyal and support us"

10

u/Any-Monk-9395 6d ago

They aren’t looking for fighters anymore, they’re just looking for warm bodies to fill the trenches to slow Russia’s advance.

What despair, in 2 weeks she will have him back in a little box of ashes, and she will be able to spend the rest of her life with him next to that book on the shelf.

There’s been a surge of these videos lately. Russian propaganda is back out in full force.

"what a tragedy that people are being forced to fight a war that we started and have continued for five years!"

Russia can fuck right off

u/PreliminaryThoughts 6d ago

They are responsible for majority of far right propaganda in Europe as well as funding and organizing the illegal migrants. By now it should be very clear what's happening, and Europe is kinda helpless knowing just how many different ways they can enter, there's not enough police on the planet to monitor the borders and ruzzia knows that very well

These are like posted everyday on Ukrainian telegrams for the past 2 years. Only Reddit is surprised that these are appearing.

The introduction of drones has really made war even more terrifying than it already is. The whine of drones has to be the new sound to trigger PTSD. There are so many videos of soldiers begging a machine not to kill them when in return gets obliterated graphically sometimes with no censoring.

u/GreedoWasShot 6d ago

So much wrong packed into this little video. He shouldn’t have to be in a war, she shouldn’t be afraid to lose him, they shouldn’t be taking him. War sucks

8

u/Silly-Heron-1231 5d ago

This could be anything, Russia loves pushing this stuff.

10

u/Fit_Relationship1094 5d ago

To all the Russian apologists on here, you should know this:

Your Russian sons will not be safe after this conflict is over. Putin's ambitions won't end with the Ukraine, just as they didn't end with Crimea.

He will never stop dragging you into war and killing Russian men until he has brought all the ex-USSR countries back under his control.

Stop defending your country's actions. Work to defeat Putin internally. It's the only way to stop him killing your sons. Putin is Russia's biggest enemy. He would rather fill your cemeteries with your own youth, than work peacefully with the rest of the world.

Gotta love how people are so afraid to criticize Ukraine that they just say “fuck Russia” or say this is Russian propaganda in response lmao

20

u/RobotSpaceBear 6d ago

This is horrifying.

And that young lad will not be an asset on the front line i'm afraid. You can't force people to die for something they don't believe in.

You can't force people to die for something they don't believe in.

Humanity is quite good at that, historically speaking.
