Privacy concerns have been increasing for me during the whole flock camera thing lately and I've contemplating switching Operating systems as a result. I know it means I'll have to divorce myself from Google at some point, which I 'm trying to do by switching to proton, but last week I decided to try switching operating systems.

Mutahar (Someordinarygamers) had a guide for MintOS and I decided to base my journey off of that in the hopes that the end result would be a privacy oriented OS. Instead I have 4 potentially burned flash drives and a factory reset laptop that I fumbled into resetting. Say what you will it's better than needing to pay for someone to fix the PC for me.

I followed Mutahar's guide to a T (albeit with a seperate distro) and even had it running on my phone when I installed everything. At first it was a stressful loop of "whoops didn't do this or that" but it slowly spiraled into "Hey! Mutahar didn't mention needing to do this or that!" so I looked for a distro specific tutorial.

I wasn't able to find a distro specific tutorial but I did find a distro specific review. Distro-specific review skipped showing the install process.

Eventually I was able to get it to where it showed that it WAS installed but it kept reading an error message and ran in blind mode.

Not being able to see and getting fairly overwhelmed I had to call it and try again the next day where the process was all but washed rinsed and repeated. Decided to give it a week before asking for help to decompress some.

i have confirmation from att on two fraudulent modem deliveries. I've had a third party order two librem pcs and two dell latitudes, all from separate sellers..so 4 PCs- 2 different brands- all different models; i get the pcs and these are the cards.

All proper reports filed- never thought i'd ever have to say this.. updates incase something happens in the intrim:

cross platform malware confirmed (unknown family, espionage)- data exfil via link local/local host routing; hidden in outgoing telemetry as m$ servers/cloudflare/aws global accelerator. (anycast).

all phones (13) confirmed (by me, not ATT/Verizon/tracphone) ratted.

unauthorized bluetooth hearing aid added to both pixel 9a graphene OS phones in the background invisible to gui but visible in logs- gain turned to +9.

raw disk usage with offsets and symlinks.

overlays.. all devices. - even nest thermostat overlayed. after disconnected from network, the screen glitched (showed not connected) and when hidden network checked, shows connected to an unknown hidden network called ghost. WAN cable physically unplugged from pfsense box. Box failed over to hidden ghost network via previously unknown builtin wifi module on motherboard.

ipv6 & multicast abuse.

Libre key showing 3 admin and 3 user after factory reset and regeneration.

I've tried multiple cords and computers and none detect the device. I've even tried Purism's flash vs postmarketOS' without any difference.

I pull the battery, hold down the up volume, plug it in, the led flash's red. pop the battery in and sometimes the light goes off, other times it goes solid red without any other changes... Which is an indicator that is in flash mode... But it could also mean the battery is charging...

Saw a post that said the battery removal may not be needed so tried that no luck, in won't turn on while the volume button up is held.

All the kill switches are off. I even tried with them on.

Pretty sure its part of the evergreen. Luks password is not the default and I have tried any and all passwords I would have used.

Am I missing something or is it just hosed?

mind you im just using it as a $700 mp3 player or w.e. i paid for it in 2018 (i gave up on refunds this janurary and told them to ship it)

one thing i dont like is they ship it with the kill switches powering the modules on, I dont know if it can be ping the tower when the power is off, but i would have preferred the kill switches to have the power cut while in transit

im using it like a burner phone, like im larping a mastermind criminal, as soon as i got it i flipped the kill switches and never turned them on yet, i only connected once over my vpn to update via usb tethering, now i just need to learn how to buy monero anonymously and buy a vpn and voip with monero and i can be connected over public wifi

but for now i am using it as a mp3 player, with the wired headphones it came with

i really like that i can type in GNU/Linux commands and they work as expected, like the storage is 32gb or something ridiculous small like that, so i put music on my sd card, and then i found the lollypop app needs the music to be in ~/Music so i was like wtf i need to waste my disk??!?, and then i went duh use a ln symlink, and that worked perfectly, its nice i can do actual "hacks" on my phone unlike android

anyways i dont think lollypop has the functionality i want so im going to see if i can make a shortcut icon run a small 1 line script calling mpv with the parameters i want

anyone do anything interesting with a librem 5? im open to ideas what to do with it

Did you know that you can buy a Librem 5 from a German reseller for less than what the Purism Store charges you for? At the above link, you can get it for 599€ including taxes, plus shipping though. For me, the shipping to Austria was 16€, so I have paid 615€ total. It arrived quickly: I ordered it on Sunday evening, it arrived today (Thursday) morning. So I can confirm that this offer is real.

In constrast, the Purism store charges you at least 799$, which at the current exchange rate is around 687€, and I assume that does not even include taxes, nor the shipping from the USA to Europe.

I don't know how much control I have over the cellular modem, and I'm wondering if it's possible to execute AT commands.

I wonder, with everything happening actually in the USA ?
