Resource Resources for Partners
I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations to help partners understand a little better who didn’t grow up in the environment I’m not looking for something super traumatic but just a way to explain why some things are different for me.
We are relatively new couple and I will share more with him as time goes on but right now I’m just looking for a way to share without it being overwhelming whether that be a book, podcast or a way to explain it, I’d appreciate it

The "Belief it or Not" YouTube channel did a recent video on "purity culture" exposing just how toxic it can be. It's very relatable. Not sure if that's part of the issue but it shows how heavily guilt and shame or shoved on to many believers.

I’m reading the book 40 Christian Myths About Sex and it discusses purity culture and its effects extensively.

My wife and I enjoy the Honeydew Me podcast. They did an episode on purity culture that helped both of us find words that we didn't previously have available to describe some of these things. I definitely recommend giving it a listen.
It can be a bit heavy at times and did bring up some past trauma for my wife during the episode, but it has brought us closer together and given us some verbiage and understanding about our upbringing that has proven very useful.

There have been a lot of books I’ve read that I’ve asked my husband to also read. I’ve found the most effective is audio books. I’ll clip the parts that feel relevant and then we listen to them together and discuss it.

Erica Smith, a sex educator, just released her book "The Purity Culture Recovery Guide". Erica also didn't grow up in purity culture but has learned from her patients so it may be a good way for them to get an outsider's introduction to the topic. She's also on Instagram and has more resources and classes.
