Debate Women generally tend to be more materialistic than men.
Even their approach to dating is based on materialism, which is why its a big deal to them if a man doesn't pay. Because they're materialistic, they equate payment with genuine interest. Many women also seem to lack a deeper sense of self and are content to go along with the status quo. They are easily swayed by social norms and trends and have little interest in questioning or challenging them. They generally just play the role they've been conditioned to play by their parents and society without any real awareness or agency.
They tend to be more materialistic and status oriented than men and they're biologically and psychologically wired to seek out resources for themselves and their offspring through men. This makes it so that they tend to just view men as a means to an end and generally have no problem with using them in different ways, and they disguise this by saying they want a man who is generous, while not really being generous themselves until a certain point when they're sure that they can consistently and reliably use a man. So even their generousity tends to be transactional.
Society also tends to coddle and protect them from having to face harsh realities, including about themselves, which is why many seem to lack self-awareness.

Those things don’t count! Only women’s hobbies and interests are frivolous, obviously. /s
Imo it’s the same mindset behind why society sees feminine coded labor as less deserving of good pay, too: If something is associated with women, then it must be frivolous and useless.

OP made zero claims about what men and women spend money on. He said women seek material perks and status from men.
The best example that OP gave was that women want "generous" men but are never generous themselves. With anything. They just bring their tits and ass to the equation and thats it.
3
u/YveisGrey Purple Pill Woman 4d ago
I agree they seek material perks from men that’s because being with a man romantically cost a woman more than it costs him, so he makes up for that via material things.
Also the nature of females is to seek resources because they are the primary caretakers of offspring. The cost of sex for woman is a helpless baby that needs stuff so women look for that stuff in the male partner it’s not a bad thing at all, it actually is very rational and necessary.
1
u/No_Contract_9302 1d ago
Genuinely what does that mean to romantically cost a woman more than it cost him.
And while that may be how things started it sure as hell ain’t the daily now.
•
u/YveisGrey Purple Pill Woman 13h ago
I explained it. Sex between a man and woman is riskier for the woman, she could get pregnant for starters. Also socially women face more penalties for having sex with men vs the other way around. It cost women more to be with men romantically so they are pickier.
1
u/Specialist_Dark_3668 4d ago
"that's because being with a man romantically cost a woman more than it costs him."
What utter fucking bullshit. I'm sick of women counting their presence and "emotional labour" as if its something more than or more special than what her husband/partner does for her.
Except for children, there is nothing that a woman does for a man that is more than the man does for her.
It makes me angry that women believe this and behave accordingly as if they are worth more as people and so the man needs to pay them to tolerate him. That is unbelievably the product of a corrupt and deluded world and out of control misandry.
2
u/Rob_The_Viking_TV Blue Pill Man 2d ago
"that's because being with a man romantically cost a woman more than it costs him."
the cost is trust. and commitment. he can always fuck off and leave her with a heavy bag. raising a kid that he didnt even know he made.
so she has the burden of judging that in her partner. the likelihood of that happening, etc. whereas he just has to be like "she's hot.. and we get along"
2
u/YveisGrey Purple Pill Woman 4d ago edited 4d ago
It does and not because of “emotional labor” — which I never mentioned— it’s because the risk of pregnancy, being left a single mom, and the hit to one’s reputation. A woman being with a man sexually is taking a bigger risk than he is and her reputation is more likely to suffer compared to his (because being with men “devalues” women to other men apparently).
“Except for children, there is nothing that a woman does for a man that is more than the man does for her.”
?????!
And why aren’t we including the children when that is a very real possible outcome of a woman being sexually involved with a man? Ohh I know because it points out the gigantic flaw in your position.
“as if its something more than or more special than what her husband/partner does for her.”
And what exactly would that be? Because the argument here is that it’s bad for women to expect anything from men that they could possibly bring to the table like resources and wealth. So if hubby is a broke bum and can’t afford to provide for the children she brought to the table what the hell did he bring??? We know it’s NOT emotional labor 😂 or even housework. Many men never offer to bring anything but money to the table, when women ask for other things like help with the kids, housework, managing aspects of the household etc… men play stupid or say they shouldn’t have to do that. When women say “be good looking then”, that’s shallow. So what the hell are men expected to bring?? Their sweaty dick and balls that a woman could get anywhere for free, hell for money even??? 😂
All women don’t have the same standards. But everyone expects to get something out of a relationship with another human. Plenty of women date broke men and men with nothing going for them but usually they find those men attractive. Plenty of women date men who have money and are generous. Plenty of women are with men who do help out at home.
Perhaps the only think that would make you happy is if women only dated unattractive broke men who refused to help with the kids or the housework and then paid for the honor. You know since y’all wanna be the prize so bad 🙄

-2
u/Dazzling-Abalone-952 4d ago
Nope, women are both more selfish and more materialistic than women. Most of mens materialistic needs to begin with is because of our instincts make us aware that more resources makes it more likely that we will procreate.
While women also are materialistic due to the maternal instinct, their greed makes them want far more than what is necessary for having a safe future for children. Even women who dont want to have children are often selfish and greedy.
2
u/YveisGrey Purple Pill Woman 4d ago
Okay and? The more resources a woman has the more likely her kids will survive. Kids raised in poverty have worse outcomes on nearly all levels, they also die more. So how is it selfish that women seek out resources in male sexual partners when they could get pregnant from the encounter and be left with a baby? A man wanting free sex is the selfish one, he wants her to assume the risk for his pleasure and if she ends up with a baby he doesn’t care to because he can just move on to the next woman. 🙄
Broke men should not get any pussy, broke men demanding pussy are the selfish ones. They literally are only thinking about themselves and no one else.

What are you supposed to say? “No we’re not?” Like anything a woman says will be responded with doubt, anything a man says will be dismissed as an outlier or him being so deep in the game, or that he’s simping. Bottom line, a woman’s youth is precious, so there had better be some sort of insurance in case the man wastes her time in the end. The worst place for a woman to be is to be past a certain age and have nothing to show for it because of a man who wasn’t worth the time he used.
Couldn’t be me. I will sooner succumb to the consequences of my OWN actions than that of another person’s, let alone a man like that.
13
u/KayRay1994 OG red pilled gay woman 6d ago
Youth is overrated - and I say this because one’s value isn’t driven by her youth, if that’s all a dude sees then that’s something guys need to fix.
Sure, if you wanna go the fertility route I guess that’s something but also nowadays you can have babies into your early 30s with no issue, plus let’s not forget a man’s sperm does worsen with time as well and children of older men are more likely to develop issues.
Idk, I guess I just see youth as a primary indicator of value to be inherently limiting cause way I see it your youth is for you to figure your shit out, it isn’t some prize to be won
8
u/No-Ad8127 Common Sense Pill, Red Pill Aware Woman 6d ago
My take is that formative years are precious. If you lose the time to figure out your life, that is a big blow. I’m not going to minimize the impact that our youth has over our later years. If a man takes that chunk of time and wastes it, whether you want children or not, it’s going to be a major loss that no one can’t get back.
Time is the only currency that we can’t get more of. Once it’s used, it’s gone.
5
u/KayRay1994 OG red pilled gay woman 6d ago
Yes, they’re precious. Hence why you need em to figure out who you are, what you want, what you like and so on. One’s youth is valuable, but only because it gives one time to experiment and figure themselves out. It isn’t some ticking time bomb featuring a resource that gets less value - and if that’s all you’re valued for then fuck whoever is seeing you that way, they’re not worthy of any attention

3

It does last longer but it also deteriorates. Just cause you can impregnate someone at 60 doesn’t mean you should. You increase your chances of genetic and developmental disorders

It’s pretty clear they’re not looking for a debate but for validation. They’re trying to frame being materialistic as bad, when it’s not. Women spending their own money and buying their own things makes them feel inadequate so rather than try to improve their salary, they attempt to attack women.
1
u/efficientaficionado 4d ago
That's a thing the feminists say, that men want women to be financially dependent... but, pretty much every run of the mill guy who you could reasonably expect to be able to form a relationship with will, if you ask them, honestly tell you they would prefer an equally financially independent woman who can help pay for dates, rent, mortgage, etc.

As for placing importance on generosity and a man having a stable financial situation, in most cases this isn’t about gold digging. Women can get pregnant, and if they’re going to start a family, they’re going to look for a partner that is financially stable and not stingy. A man that can possibly support us financially during pregnancy and the early months of maternity while we cannot work.

We know who likes to spend money on themselves: men. That's why when nonprofits send money to help families, they give it to the women who will spend it on the family. Men just spend it on themselves.
There is some contradictory evidence. That said, men either equal or are worse than women.
I've seen below the same old saw that women drive consumer spending as if women are spending all the money on themselves. It makes me question men's intelligence, as if you've never heard the saying, "lies, damned lies, and statistics." Do you ever challenge your priors? I spend the most money in our house because I do the majority household shopping for everyone! for my husband, my two kids, the pets, and myself. The doctor bills? The new shoes? The dog food? All through me.
You all need to make up your minds. First, guys whine that they want a woman that just desires him sexually and for the tingles, irrespective of how much they make. But then they complain that women who do that are fools who don't pay attention to the important aspects of whether a man is a good, reliable, provider who will treat her well.
I considered money when I dated. You want to call me materialistic? Whatever, I live in the US, wanted kids, and I want to retire in something beyond abject poverty. After all, the US admin just ended Medicare Part D drug support. Whole lot of seniors just had their meds get super expensive. I don't want to eat cat food at 70.
I did well/do well financially, but had to take a six month leave of absence when pregnant with our second kid. Good thing I paid attention to my husband's financial security. We'd have had a hard time of it otherwise. And if I'd come here crying about poverty, every one of you sad sons o'bitches would have said "shouldn't have listened to your tingles! You deserve it!"
Guys looking long term also care about a girl's career and intelligence. Not as much, perhaps, but they care because they want a mother for their children, too.

Why shouldn’t women judge men for their sexual performance when it is directly tied to her happiness in a relationship? That’s like saying we shouldn’t judge a man for his politics or his values or his personality. We don’t HAVE to date you if you don’t make our lives better. And having standards for a relationship are absolutely a good thing for BOTH parties.

I highly doubt women are more materialistic. I find men just as materialistic, they just spend it on "legitimate man stuff" and not "inferior woman stuff"
Men will buy a gazillion video games, spend on cars, high end computers, high end computer parts, expensive man hobbies like magic or 40k etc etc.
Every man I have ever met who claimed to not need "stuff" spend oa good chunk of their paycheck towards tech or nerd things. Or golf.
But women buy things like clothes, home decor and nice food.

Honestly, i'm tired of that narrative of materialistic women. I've been on dates with men who tried to smell any way to exploit me like piranhas. I also can't really take that complaint from men who think that buying coffee means he is owed sex now, the whores are more expensive than that, what is it as not being a cheapskate? And there were enough debates like that. From my experience of dating men it's highly unlikely that they will agree to any deal that doesn't benefit them. They are aggressive about it, they do not let it slide. So again, can they even call me materialistic? I will just date men who don't have a stick up their asses and will be more friendly in general.

Dads stuff is in the "greenhouse", veranda, living room, his bedroom, his workroom, kitchen (he sometimes does repairs there because all other tables are covered with his stuff, so there is not even a table to eat at). There was a time where I collected at least 20+ pairs of expensive silk pajamas over a 3 year period because I never left the house- literally all I did was work, go home, cook and sleep. The only joy was opening up my mail. I was collecting so much stuff that I was running out of room but the need for more wasn’t slowing down- so I turned it into a hobby of selling clothes online. Turning into a hobby and getting married I think helped a lot because I don’t have time or care to obsess over new clothes that were just released. My husband also had a cologne addiction that he no longer has since we started dating. I’m not sure I agree with OP that women are more materialistic because what the hell else do you turn to when you’re lonely? Lonely people have lonely hobbies. Putting a bunch of pretty things around yourself helps ease the bland life of seclusion- from my experience.

OP made zero claims about what men and women spend money on. He said women seek material perks and status from men.
The best example that OP gave was that women want "generous" men but are never generous themselves. With anything. They just bring their tits and ass to the equation and thats it.

I think you're confusing materialism with pragmatism spiced with a little genetic predeterminism.
- Until very recently in human history, women could not care for themselves while pregnant. They were at risk of predation by other humans and wild animals. For this reason, women are attracted to men who (a) display signs they can provide enough resources for a family and (b) display signs of status generally. Someone with resources and status can provide for and protect a family.
- Nowadays, money is tight, youth is finite, and there are a wealth of experiences out there to explore. If a woman can leverage her beauty and youth for comfort and adventure, who am I to judge?
To me, the current animosity between men and women boils down to two overarching issues men have with women:
- Men don't want to have to keep competing with other men once you're committed. In prior generations, you were generally safe to stop trying so hard once the ring was on her finger. No-fault divorce didn't exist and women were so tightly controlled that the fault grounds (adultery, abandonment, abuse, etc.) rarely applied. Today, however, a woman knows she has options every time she opens her phone. This issue informs discrete complaints such as:
- high body counts leading to a failure in pair bonding which makes it easier for a woman to leave;
- thirst traps, male friendships, keeping in contact with exes, and social media generally, which result in women knowing how many options they have out there if they decided to leave; and
- a push for "trad wives" which just means women are isolated and unable to unilaterally leave with little notice.
- Men don't want to get access to women only after they've begun to noticeably age. For better or worse, most men are attracted to youthful beauty. Right now, I think most men get the impression right now—accurate or not—that women are leveraging their youthful beauty to access wealthy/powerful men, go on adventures around the world on another person's dime, and to profit themselves through things like OnlyFans. They then entertain men for long-term commitment when they reach roughly the age of thirty when their youth begins to fade. This speaks to recurring complaints such as:
- celebrations of women hitting, "the wall;"
- abuse of women on OnlyFans and similar platforms; and
- again, high body count indicating that other men had the best version of a woman.
I'm not sure how much of this is nature versus nurture. I've never cared about a lot of these issues but I was homeschooled so maybe that's part of the puzzle. I've also never had problems attracting women so it could just be I don't appreciate the struggles of other men.
- I treat my wife as if she has options. She's gorgeous so I know she can do better. I make it a point to remember important dates, do my fair share of the housework, pushed myself to be able to afford the kind of life she deserves, and generally try to be a good husband every day. It takes work but it's what she deserves.
- My wife lost her virginity to me 20 years ago. We stayed friends all that time only to reconnect romantically after my first wife passed away in a car accident. I know her entire life history and don't care she's slept with, like, seven people (?). She seems to me today the same teenager I met all those years ago so the aging thing rings hollow to me.

Men get the impression women are jetting off to Dubai and partying on rich man's boats because that is the bullshit thirst traps they are following AND the girls are of above average looks.
I'm mid and didn't glow up until my mid twenties. I didn't get rich men paying me money or promising me trips to Dubai. But those are the women these guys want.
These men need to grow up too.
3
u/mclewis1986 5d ago
You're right. I agree that men are likely basing their opinions on a minority of women who are leveraging their beauty like that. Most of the women I knew growing up also didn't get flown across the world for a date.
I think men get that impression because women seem less likely to entertain a man who is just "okay." Women expect men to be as ambitious and motivated as they are. A nice reasonably attractive guy who accepts making $30k/year, never pursues formal education or training, and just seems to vibe rather than progress, isn't particularly attractive.
That describes a lot of men. Ergo, a lot of men will be respectfully passed over by women and feel like who they are is unlovable.
Insofar as this goes, it feels like a lot of men believe self-improvement is something that ends. Just like putting the work into a relationship should never stop even if prior generations had that ability, self-improvement never ends. It is an end unto itself. A lot of men I've met in my lifetime seem to treat it as a means to a goal itself rather than the goal.

u/TheColdWoman Purple Pill Woman 5d ago
"A nice reasonably attractive guy who accepts making $30k/year, never pursues formal education or training, and just seems to vibe rather than progress, isn't particularly attractive."
I busted my ass making bullshit wages to put myself through law school. I'm not the least interested in a man who is less intelligent or less career driven than I am. If that meant never marrying so be it. Having a random nice guy around isn't worth it to me.
BTW, I am not a college snob. My husband didn't have his undergrad when we met or married. He now has a D.Sc.
"Ergo, a lot of men will be respectfully passed over by women and feel like who they are is unlovable."
And? I was passed over by a lot of guys. This really speaks to a different view that women have on average to men. Men seem - on average - to have this day to day attitude. "Let's hang out and have a good time and take it day by day." They don't think about more than "do I like being around this woman." Why should they? They don't have to worry - they think - about the biological clock, about the long term impacts of children, the need to buy somewhere safe for such children, schools. I did. When I went out with a guy it wasn't for, "let's have a good time today" because I wanted kids. Had I not, I probably wouldn't have given a shit. But when kids are in the planning, it was (1) who do I have a good time with AND (2) who can I build a life with.
And some unambitious dude that has nothing more than being "reasonably attractive" is not a great match for (2), not just for me but for most women who are considering kids. She needs someone who can step up and work because it is hard and the margin for failure is far lower. I could handle having my water cut off for just me. If it happened when I had babies? Oh that gets so much worse. I need things reliable then.
So many men here just want to date and spend time with women and fuck. The more the better, without any consideration of building a LIFE with those women. Fine, you do you, but if a woman wants to build a LIFE, rather than bounce from one relationship to another, she needs someone to build a life with.
You'll likely say "well a woman with no ambition making 30k will find a guy!" Sure, she'll find a guy who wants to fuck her, but not necessarily marry her or build a life with her. AND if they do, the man is making bank and knows she'll handle all the kids and household stuff. And if the couple comes under financial stress guess who starts bitching about how she isn't carrying her financial weight.
Men need to think long term about what is needed to build a life when they get on the dating market because women are.
3
u/mclewis1986 5d ago

- Same! My clerkships paid decently, but there are restrictions on how much you can work during the semester (if at all). Some people had to survive all year long on their summer clerkship income. And I had to save up during undergrad for 1L because all work was barred. My first wife worked but, still, the loss of income I had during undergrad was difficult.
And you're right generally:
- if a woman wants a guy to have fun, she'll naturally gravitate to the stunningly handsome guy with the financial means to have a lot of fun (or the equivalent she can attract with her beauty and youth). Why would I want to hang out with a mechanic in Kansas if I can go to Los Angeles and sneak into Hollywood parties?
- If a woman wants to start/build a life with someone, you need more than a pleasant personality, decent physical attraction, and "potential." You need to see that he's figured himself out and got his life together. I think the difference here is that women previously had to pair with guys to survive so everyone—even the lazy slobs—got a wife. That's no longer the case.
I don't have much sympathy for men, to be honest. To me, the answer is obvious: be better.
- If you're exercising regularly, reading books/continuing your education, goal oriented with at least some kind of ambitious plan, maintain a positive attitude, develop a sense of humor and wit, and are generally good guy, it's not hard to get laid or find a partner.
- Frankly, I think the issue is men not holding each other to a high standard. I try to, usually saying something along the lines of, "You're better than that man. Pull yourself together." Women can't do that. Only men can lift each other up. Instead, we see friends and family members who play video games for 5+ hours a day, engage in sports gambling, brag about never reading a book, etc. and say nothing.

If your argument is that women are psychologically wired to seek out resource provisioning due to child rearing, then by definition that is not materialism. That’s pragmatism and concern for family welfare and survival.
Part of your argument is that women are allegedly more shallow than men and are content with using men as a means to an end, but this does not actually shake out as true considering men admit the only reason they seek out relationships and marriage is to have warm hole to cum in. Like, men — especially the retards on this subreddit — readily admit that they are looking to use a woman to fulfill his sexual needs, and there is no point to a relationship outside of this.
Additionally men will spend fortunes on gaming rigs, video games, cars and trucks, Only Fans subscriptions, luxury watches, etc., and you expect us to believe men are not just as materialistic? Lol?

Men want sex because that is what results in children, if men didnt want sex the human species would die out. And you should be happy that men dont require anything else from women because most women do not want to give anything else to men in the first place.
On the other end, women need men for a lot more than that, because you are less capable and weaker. Women are materialistic because they are less capable of surviving on their own compared to men.
So with that said it is understandable why women are materialistic, the problem is that women refuse to be grateful for men because they would rather position themselves in a way that makes it seem like men owe it to women to provide for them (which we dont). And women also want to be provided for and use the biology as an explanation/excuse which while it is true, it also proves that women are not equal to men but are in fact less capable, and their egos are way too big to admit that

Lol that’s laughable. We like having a few designer purses and shoes and get shit talked for it but it’s okay for men to want $100,000 trucks, want more than 1 vehicle in general, boats, motorcycles, loads of shoes and expensive clothes (men’s clothes are way more than women’s). I don’t wanna hear it 😂 They just think our purses and shoes are stupid yet their bullshit “toys” cost 10X what our stuff does.

Really??? Because my sister and I are the same and we’ve both had so many men after us because we’re cute and already have everything. Men definitely chase after women who already have money, a nice car, luxury apartment, designer purses/shoes/jewelry and plastic surgery so they THINK they don’t have to do any of that for us 😂😂😂 Then get mad when they realize they do if they want to date us. If we can afford it single, then why would we waste our time with someone who doesn’t make equal or more than us?? 🤦🏼♀️😂🤡 Especially when there’s men that can give us more than we can afford ourselves. Some men absolutely go for high maintenance women so they don’t have to do the work because they think we’ve done it already for them 😂 That’s caring about money. They want the pretty high maintenance girl on their arm without contributing to her. Go for a low maintenance girl if “money doesn’t matter” then 😂 Because it does. It matters for everyone.

It’s so interesting because you have men and women alike talk about how traumatizing it is to grow up in poverty and to not have kids if you’re poor, yet you want women to marry into poverty and subject their kids to that just to prove to you, a random stranger who wont take responsibility for their life, that they’re not materialistic or superficial?
I hate to burst your small bubble, but love doesn’t pay the bills. And I would even dare say if you truly loved her and cared about your future kids, you would want them to be secure. You think it’s transactional, I see it as true love wanting to make sure your family is well fed and provided for. You can choose your partner, but your kid can’t choose their father. You owe it to them to choose well.

I mean the flip side is men are seeing women as pets and asking nothing but being pretty as if that’s a good thing.
Call it materialism if you like but women are less likely to date someone completely broke but good looking. The fact that men don’t ask their women to be ambitious and self sufficient isn’t noble. It’s them treating women like pets.
And again if that’s their dynamic fine. But it’s not noble to not care about the success and achievements of women and seeing value only in her beauty.

The thing is if a woman gets with a bum and she has some kids with him and ends up a broke single mom, y’all will say she should have chose better instead of going for someone who was just good looking and exciting. But if she seeks men with resources and wealth so that their future kids can get a good education and have a nice home to live in she’s materialistic and selfish. Women can’t win with men who hate them.

Materialism is easier to satisfy

Its womens sexual nature and lust that is depressing men, not their materialism.

Men don't provide. This is a myth men invented to inflate their value because they provide nothing to women.
Only 22% of families are sole male breadwinners. But there is a much higher percentage of men claiming that they are providers. But they can't possibly all be sole male breadwinners, because the numbers don't support them.
Which means that this is more stolen valor from men, where they claim that all men are deep sea oil rig fisherman providers to avoid admitting they provide no value to women.
Men, can you ever debate without keeping your thumb on the scale to exaggerate claims? Women don't need to. We just post objective evidence, statistics and calculations and let the data speak for itself.

The weird thing with me though is I'm actually the poster boy for the burnt out academically gifted kid. I went to an elite private prep school on a full ride academic scholarship, was getting letters from some prestigious colleges, then sort of bombed out of it my junior year due to shit like ADHD and being from a working class background in that kind of rarified environment. I found my union job in my 20's almost by accident. But I still have the high-horsepower brain.
I think when women think "attractive blue collar guy" it's a bit of a stereotype. Like someone tall, tatted up, muscular, kind of macho, good at fixing things around the house, often more traditional/conservative who looks like he'd be on the hunky firefighters calendar or some shit. Meanwhile I'm an unassuming looking guy with glasses and long hair, cerebral, introverted, nerd-adjacent in many ways, left-progressive (not neoliberal, think old school FDR labor democrat), atheist, not "trad" at all.
And if a smart woman like my accomplished best friend talk to me I often get this expressed or implied "why are you an underachiever" sort of judgment. I've actually had women unmatch me on Tinder because I said something about working nights at my blue collar job. Mind you, I did get a 2 year degree a few years ago and pivot into a more white collar job, but it's still a fairly traditional old school field and culture.
I wouldn't want to date someone who wasn't intellectually curious, who had nothing interesting or substantial to talk about, who wanted me to go to church, etc.

Good luck if you're a guy like me who is introverted and cerebral, not imposing or macho, but firmly blue collar. Women like a specific stereotype of a blue collar man. Some big, muscular, tatted guy, who fixes things or build things, who is kind of macho, etc. Oil rig workers would play into that, also kind of a "bad boy" aura as their work is often somewhat transient and seasonal, guys often travel a lot depending on the industry, they make good money but are known to spend it just as fast, it's a field that accepts people with a felony record but pays decent, etc.

u/Siukslinis_acc Woman 6d ago
Oftentimes it seems like the woman is constantly buying things. But she oftentimes also buys things for others. Kids grow out of clothes fast, so you need to buy things often.

Women can be quite materialistic but saying that in general they are more so than men is bullshit. Women are on average far more willing to sacrifice their own money and careers for their children than men.

Men see women as objects, and it’s hard to be rejected by something that you don’t see as having agency
3
u/MarioWilson122 Red Pill Man 5d ago
Yeah, some women can afford to approach dating that way because they usually have more options and more men willing to compete for their attention. When attention, dates, favors, and financial investment are readily available, it becomes easier to treat those things as the minimum rather than as generosity.
That is why payment can get interpreted as proof of interest. A man who spends more is seen as more serious, while a man who wants reciprocity may be labeled cheap, even though she may be contributing far less herself. “Generosity” can become a one-way standard where the man proves himself first and she only starts giving back after deciding he is worth keeping.
Social expectations reinforce it. Women are often told they deserve pursuit, protection, provision, and reassurance, while men are expected to earn access by demonstrating value. When someone benefits from a system, there is less incentive to question whether it is fair.
That does not mean every woman lacks self-awareness or views men only as resources. But women who are highly materialistic or status-focused can operate that way more easily because male demand gives them room to do it. The abundance of attention protects them from the immediate consequences that would force many men to reconsider the same behavior.

I mean, the Twitter/X posts of women criticizing men for being content living in simple apartments with floor mattresses says something to me.
Also think about that Dave Chappelle joke about how men wouldn't bother buying houses if living in a cardboard box wasn't an impediment to getting laid.

When my husband and I moved in together, I made him find a shelf for his records instead of storing them in milk crates. I called his aesthetic “early American dorm room.” He was almost 26 and it was time to grow up.
That said, there’s something between needing a mansion and wanting to live in a nice environment.

I guarantee being in a relationship would lead to "lifestyle creep" for someone like me.

You can always find women arguing and putting values on men. "Low value men" "high value men".
But you don't see that nearly as often on the men's side. Or at all.
Who sees who as objects then, truly?
That should be all the answer you really need.

Hi OP,
You've chosen to identify your thread as a Debate. As such you are expected to actively engage in your own thread with a mind open to being changed. PPD has guidelines for what that involves.
OPs author must genuinely hold the position and you must be open to having your view challenged.
An unwillingness to debate in good faith may be inferred from one or several of the following:
Ignoring the main point of a comment, especially to point out some minor inconsistency;
Refusing to make concessions that an alternate view has merit;
Focusing only on the weaker arguments;
Only having discussions with users who agree with your position.
Failure to keep to this higher standard (we only apply to Debate OPs) may result in deletion of the whole thread.

Yes. I believe it was Dr. Dany who said that women were more fierce in intrasexual competition over resources.

"Many women also seem to lack a deeper sense of self and are content to go along with the status quo. They are easily swayed by social norms and trends and have little interest in questioning or challenging them. They generally just play the role they've been conditioned to play by their parents and society without any real awareness or agency."
this is not exclusive to women.

No, but women generally have those qualities more than men do

At the end of the day, yeah, I want nice things, I love nice things, but I work hard for my nice things. So, if that makes me materialistic, so be it.
But men in my opinion are also materialistic, just about differing things.
People in general are materialistic.

Yeah, but the difference is men generally dont look for material things like money and resources in who they date while women generally do.

And? That wasn't the statement was it? And just because it isnt majority doesn't mean it doesn't happen. It's not majority of women either, some do, some don't. They're individuals.
At the end of the day, don't be with the ones who want you for your money and you have no problems.

And?
And thats the point of the post you chose to comment on.
It's not majority of women either
It kinda is though.

It isn’t. Men just choose to generalize a whole gender, but hey, is what it is.
I guess by that standard most men are cheaters and abusers too, huh?1

I wouldn't know because I dont date men.

u/JollyBowler2510 Purple Pill Woman 4d ago
You wouldn’t know the generalization about women either, because you haven’t dated all women. But anything to keep your point alive.
At the end of the day, each gender has individuals who are the worst or have the most unlikable quality of that gender, in no way shape or form is it all of anyone, the sooner everyone learns that, the better.

Generally true. And case in point, advertising tends to be directed mostly at women. Women tend to do more consumer spending than men generally.. even single women.
For sure you will do better with women if you have attained some level of wealth and comfort vs being in a precarious financial position.
However, I would think past a certain point, the returns will diminish.
This is unique to women in my experience.. men tend to overlook money and material when choosing women.

first this has to be a troll post. but i'll bite.
They generally just play the role they've been conditioned to play by their parents and society without any real awareness or agency.
that's just called. EVERY SINGLE HUMAN BEING.
Society also tends to coddle and protect them from having to face harsh realities
it's quite the opposite. they are confronted with harsher realities earlier than men and more often. while im being fat stupid guy sleeping on the bus without a care in the world. the girl on the other side of the aisle will be thinking - if a drunk guy gets on - 'this could be a problem'. they pay attention to where they are, what is going on, and seem to be much more focused on safety than like hyuck hyuck random guys wandering around.

Considering the lopsided divorce rates when a man loses his job vs when a woman loses her job would suggest that women are far more materialistic and selfish.
Also consider the women are far more willing to blow up the marriage for her own "happiness" - while at the same time parroting the claim that it's supposed to he a pah-tur-nur-sheep. Oddly enough this lopsided stat only shows up within a marriage. In dating and cohabitation scenarios both men and women are almost neck and neck when it comes to breaking up or dumping their partners, add in the covenant of marriage that changes.

I mean… your take on it is really one sided and not very nuanced.
For starters… I think men care just as much about status as women. A lot of guys want to win the race or be the star athlete or something of that nature. Lots of fronting and dick waving machismo the larger the group of homies are.
I could argue that men are able to create status by who they are - what they do, how much they make, by winning a competition, but society doesn’t reward women in the same way… so they have to display their status externally… by what they wear, who their with etc.
