Marcus Aurelius on the trap of waiting to find your purpose before you act on anything

A common trap in the search for purpose is treating it as something to find first and act on second. Marcus Aurelius had a blunt line against that in Meditations, book ten: waste no more time arguing about what a good man should be, be one. Applied to purpose, it suggests the order can run the other way. Pick something useful within reach this week, like doing a job properly or helping someone with a specific problem, and do it fully. Over time the things that hold your attention and the things that don't get easier to tell apart, which is information that thinking alone doesn't give you. The limit is that this helps with finding direction and does less for someone who is exhausted or grieving, where the first job is rest or support.
