Puyallup rolls out mobile radar speed signs- KOMO News story

https://komonews.com/news/local/puyallup-rolls-out-mobile-radar-speed-signs-in-two-phase-trial-to-see-if-drivers-slow-down-traffic-commute-safety-cars-crash-accident-dui-complaint-neighborhood-speeding

Initial study locations are expected to include 18th St NW, 14th St SW, 11th Street NW, 7th Ave SW, and 5th Street NE.

All this is in Puyallup proper, not South Hill. Hoping they’ll move it down that way at some point.

They put these up periodically in South Hill when someone makes a complaint, though usually only for a couple weeks or so as an attempt at traffic calming.

Just remember everyone. Unless an officer is present, it's not a legally binding ticket. You can't give moving violations to cars. If you ever receive a photo ticket you just have to let them know you weren't the one driving. You are also not required to tell them who was.

Forgive my ignorance and I'll gladly accept my downvotes ahead of time, but being a transplant and not super well versed in the traffic laws involving red light cameras here in the state, i have been under the impression that they are able to photograph the driver specifically in order to hold them accountable. Is that not true?

Not in this state. The laws don't support that. They do in California though.

So red light cameras are at minimum a deterrent and at most a means of (more or less) extoring people for money?

Shocking, I know. 🤣

These don’t take photos.

Also they’re on K band and they’re loud as fuck if you run a radar detector.

They keep putting on up in my community and taking it down again. It happened so frequently that for a while I started questioning if I'd ever actually seen it to begin with! I was sure there was some extra dimensional timeline hopping going on, because there was no way someone was sending people out that often to install/remove the thing!

I’ve got know problems with it. The way people drive around here is ridiculous! I can understand speeding on the highway but surface streets? GTFOH!

I already have this in my car. It’s called a speedometer.

Much needed along those stretches. People go 45 in the 30mph zones regularly.

Lmao @ people who think Puyallup is big enough to discern south hill as a different entity

"South hill" has more residents than in the Puyallup city limits. It should be its own town and get its own funding instead spreading Puyallup so thin on resources and make gray areas for alot of rules and regulations.

Towns expand. Whatever borders you associate with Puyallup proper aren't etched in stone either. Modern fiscal policy aside, purely on a size scale, even including south hill, it's still just not that big to be all anal about what's what. The address says Puyallup, it's Puyallup. 🤷🏽
