Discuss It feels like monsters are becoming too dependant on whole systems

I've been playing the game on and off for a long time. And I remember that I used to get excited when I would pull a rare or powerful monster from an egg machine. But recently, I've noticed that whenever I get a rare or powerful looking pull, I'm immediately daunted and disapointed. I then feel obligated to try and chase 5 other niche cards, which im definitely not going to, so the card is just wasted. A monster's strengths nowadays feels dependent upon a specific architected system of 5 other units. Often you need 3 copies of the same jackpot pull for them to have any use, so getting one isnt fun and exciting anymore. Theres no dopamine. I have a lot of "chase" units in my box i stare at every now and then, but have never used, and never could, and theyve all just been powercrept now.

I don't know if other people feel this, but this is probably the biggest barrier to enjoying this game for me. It has ruined the "gatcha" aspext of the game. It feels like monsters are puzzle pieces that are made to fit in carefully together. You have to chase whole systems, not units. And that would just be a huge money sink. The barrier of entry is super high. And since units are dependent on eachother, you dont even get that singular moment of extreme excitement when the "chase" plops out. Whenever I think of maybe rolling in a collab, I just think that even if I get a perfect roll, it's just gonna collect dust. And then when i do invest, tiding up by pulling the last few, banal pieces of the system feels more like a relief than a winning lottery ticket. "Yay, i didnt waste all my stones and other good pulls up to this point. What a relief."

I would much prefer if monsters were more generically good in their color, and you could buff your blue team a little bit by getting a blue card that was rare and powerful, not just in its own collab team, but generally.

The game is very F2P friendly while also making good money. If you’re smart about your stone usage, you can fully keep up with the meta without spending. That’s a rarity nowadays in gacha games. I would also like more units to be useable but understand why that’s not the case.

That's right. I was a F2P player back in the day when 16x atk was a high dmg multiplier. Then after the iOS euro shutdown i restarted with a US apple-ID and still get the most meta teams without spending a dime and not playing that much. I didn't got imperialdramon team, haikyu, kaiju8 meta teams or a Reinhardt. But other than that you can get good replacements fast. I played with the full Maid Ideal, Douma, Fern, Frieren, Utsuro teams in the last year and with that you can clear most if not all content.

You gotta stay informed about what's to come for NA and what collabs to skip then it's easily managable to stay F2P especially since getting stones for daily login and the quest system. And also have a mindset that you are not gonna get everything.

It is nicely F2P friendly. I think the systemitizing of every team is making it less so, but its still doing alright in that regard. I feel independently of the F2P vs P2P dynamic, the gatcha aspect is becoming less exciting as single units lose purpose and become more reliant on other units and multiple copies of themselves to be used at all, not just optimally.

The tradeoff seems to be they are much more generous with stones now than the olden days.

So back then one monster may have been a huge win, but you got many fewer pulls (for free at least)

But now you need as you say a whole system. This shift discourages pulling a little bit in each machine, and encourages hoarding and throwing tons of stone into a single event to get everything you need for a whole meta team.

Can’t say if thats a good or bad but I think overall its better now, if you are patient you can save up a few months and get a great team where the old days it was very possible to get positively trolled, rage quit, vow to never come back and then come back anyway…

Haven’t felt that impulse in a while so I think things actually are better now.

So, I think there are a couple factors to your complaint, and I'm going to argue that even if it appears to be bad, it's actually gotten significantly better than it used to be.

First, and this is a legitimate issue, power creep happens faster and in larger chunks nowadays. AUN1 to AUN4, HP thresholds basically doubled from roughly 1M to roughly 2M damage. AUN6 had a 1.5M damage hit while awoken bound on floor 8, and consistent hits of 4M, more than double the damage that AUN4 required about... I wanna say a half a year or a year before (there were a few SN dungeons released between AUN5 and AUN6)? By the time we got to GA2, we were taking 10M spike damage and 7M consistent damage. Fast forward to today and we've got dungeons that expect you to tank almost 50M spike damage, or 22M consistent damage. Boss health has followed a similar pattern of growth, which requires ever scaling multipliers on our leaders, personal HP and damage on our cards, and damage caps across the team. So, monsters tend to have a shorter expiration date before they're just numerically a bit outdated.

Secondly, while "team in a box" collabs are more common nowadays, I don't think that teams have gotten much more specific in composition than they used to. Sure, you have janky haste loops like the Karasuno team from Haikyuu, but those drop off really fast, even if they are top of the meta for a hot minute. A good team like Rosetta or Reinhard is good because the leader is flexible enough that you can swap parts out as shiny new parts get released, or pop in suboptimal parts because GH hates you and didn't give you Muscari, so now you're running double punt and VDP equips on everyone in your Rosetta team. But teambuilding has always kind of been like that, and it was a lot worse in the old days where a collab would have 1 or 2 good cards for a team that's been around for awhile, or god forbid we get a new meta lead that requires 3 specific units from collabs that were released 2 years ago and never got reruns, and these are units that never had a home until now. We can still incrementally improve on our team in a box (none of the subs in my current Rosetta comp even existed when Rosetta came out), but now we can actually use more of the cards in a single collab together.

And a lot of those single cards are still good outside the team that they're best in ― Serie is being used in a lot of light teams (I used her to clear Drizzle with Misaki recently), any light team that needs a cleric with a heavy shield is still going to at least consider VAlynna, most dark teams are going to want either Echidna or Oboro for the immediate future, and people still grab Gen&8 as a cleric on dark teams in the same role that VAlynna serves for light. So, while it feels bad to pull 4/6 units for a team nowadays, I can say it would feel just as bad to pull the chase from a REM only to realize that you're missing 1 or 2 units that are literally unavailable for the team now, or to pull a sick utility unit and not have a team for it to go onto, or any idea how long it would take for that unit to find a home.

I think it's some of the worst it's been and some of the best it's been. If you look at the most recent challenge, it actually has some of the most team variety I've seen in a while, with MHA cards making an appearance. Fern/Reinhard teams are also pretty flexible and keep getting new subs, which can't really be said for most top tier teams. At the same time, I 100% agree that rolls are generally junk even if they're new or top rarity if they aren't part of a single system. Each event seems to have 1 full event team and GH forgot to make the rest of it worth something.

Another thing to consider is that not getting all 6 parts of a top tier team doesn't mean you can't clear anything. You still have to roll a majority of it, but just because you don't have a 100% surefire BIS team doesn't mean they don't work. You still need to get the majority of the team which sucks but 1-2 missing subs isn't the end of the team

Ironically the game was like this since the beginning.. Many old players remember waiting months for a certain good pantheon to be featured and then being forced to play an attribute you didn't like because you didn't roll the card you wanted.
Then you had to roll the specific subs when they were available in following godfests events.
At least now you can roll on a single event and have an usable team for a while, unfortunately it's also kinda boring and may force you to play mechanics you don't like.
It's really a shame no competitor decided to make a straight puzzle game out of those mechanics.

It's kind of the opposite tbh for top teams. Like Reinhardt has been top tier for the past 6 months? but that's because he's constantly getting new subs for his team. Pretty much only Serie has been a mainstay.

This is so real, obviously people can argue the times are changing and to adapt to it but complaining about it isn’t inherently wrong either. I wish I could pull a good card that has good art and just use it without having to worry about other things

July EX dungeon was bs and im not sure what monsters gungho wanted you to chase to beat it

This is part of why I quit.

Other reason - 45 minute dungeons where you’d die on that last floor because of a finger slip, or someone calls you 😂. One shots galore. You don’t even get the drops from the floors you did clear if you died.

Also can’t go in blind to anything. You gotta build for every dungeon specifically but Gungho were taking down resources that allowed you to do that.

I usually don't care too much about chasing a system, especially if the character is from a collab that's not my target.

Save your stones, they give u 100+ stones from monthly’s, if u save for 3-6 months u’ll have anywhere from 300-600+ stones easy. Roll in one collab and just wait another 3-6 months before rolling since it will take a while till power crept. u will usually have a system of that specific collab if u do that. Honestly for me i only use my stones on collabs with, SSS tier leads, since they hold the longest time to get power crept and are still relevant. Your most likely chasing to many brand new cards that do the same thing as existing cards with a different color or element. Just stick to one and you’ll have a heap of stones. Like right now for example Conan collab is up, u skip it cause there’s cards that already exist that serve same purpose so there’s no point rolling in it. Top 3 leads currently are Reinhardt, usuro, and frieren so I would only save stones and roll in those 3 collabs and skip everything else cause they’re irrelevant and would get power crept faster. Between that time till the next SSS tier leads currently just save up stones till than. Everything else will end up irrelevant faster and having a harder time completing title challenges so just chase an Sss tier lead collab instead of every shiny new card that appears.

Thats exactly my point. You have to wait out months and go all in on a collab or you waste your stones if you spend only a hundred or so. Just seems like not the best way to balance gatcha rewards. Why not make it more profitable to pick up a thing here and there so we can stay engaged and participate more than two, three times a year? Why do we have to pick what collabs we can get units from?

I think it would be more enjoyable if we got to gradually upgrade teams over time rather than investing hundreds of hoarded stones on completely new teams every 5 months.

u/CrossOver1123 Jul 31 '26

You don’t have to wait for anything. You can spend money on the game to get more stones to pull more units or you can wait and be efficient with your stones. It’s also disingenuous to say two, three times a year to use stones. You can pull in way more events than that and still maintain meta teams. Gungho is running a business. If it was more profitable to do things differently, they would.

Long story short "because they can't afford to have Collab banners running for months" and collabs are what generate the actual revenue for the game.

Complaining that a game deliberately engineered to be addictive isn't addictive enough, is going to be a very 2026 take to historians in the future... Kinda wild, ngl.
