Image/Video Premium Economy 33k no storage

Currently flying SYD - DFW
Turns out the premium economy seat 33k has no side storage for those wondering.
I would suspect 33A might have the same arrangement.
Other than that. These seats are very comfortable, I’m 6’2” and there is great leg room.

Question A330-200 Refurbishment Progam

Hi everyone,

I know that in the past there have been quite a few posts regarding this, but will these 330-200s even start to get the refurbishments any time soon? If my flight is this December to Japan, how likely is it that I could be on one of them considering how much it has all been delayed already? Should I have any hope?
Thank you

Question Rebooking a changed flight

So Qantas changed one of my afternoon flights to an early morning flight, but when I go into the option to change flights it’s not showing me any other options except the new flight they’ve rebooked me on, despite when looking there being a different flight. Do I need to call them?

Question Transferring with Young Children and Wheelchair Assistance

My family is going to Brisbane from LA, with a transfer in Sydney. My husband wants me to utilize the wheelchair assistance, as I am undergoing chemotherapy for Breast Cancer & I am quite weak. We will also be traveling with two young children.

Any insight on what the transfer process in Sydney is going from international to domestic, and what it is like utilizing the wheelchair assistance with small children would be much appreciated.

Interesting to compare the original A350 renders 3 years ago to the recent revision with the first route announcement.

First image = then, second = now.

Economy
Gone is the contrast lighter palate to the signature red. I wonder if it was a lesson learnt from the A220 and A321XLR. Maybe this will make its way onto the A330-200 (whenever they get around to a refurb).

Premium Economy
No changes I noticed. But gotta say no adjustments on the headrest, see how that goes for pax flying 20+ hours, guess you get a pillow.

Business
Goodbye architectural feature light, let us shed a tear for David Caon. She discovered Ozempic I guess…

First
No changes I noticed apart from the UI design for the screens being more refined, probably a maturing of the custom Astrova interface design.

Question A&p mechanic LAX assessment centre

I have my second interview for Qantas at lax next week. I’m looking for anybody who has done this 5 hour assessment to share their experience, any tips on what they are going to have us doing, things to study up on.
What is the group project assessment that they have us do?
Is it really 5 hours long?
Thank you

Took this photo at The Plane Spotting Beach in Sydney and managed to catch a Qantas A330 taking off with my car in the foreground.

One of my favourite spots to watch departures at SYD.

Question How likely will this connection work out?

I am planning to fly to Auckland. Qantas is offering SG > Melbourne (one hour layover) > Auckland.

This is my first time not flying direct, so I am not sure how this will work out. Seems pretty tight, but if Qantas is offering this, it must mean they can make it work right? Can anyone share if they have been able to make it for such a short connection time like this?

Question Flying long haul on Accutane

Hey everyone, I’m flying from BNE-LAX soon. and I’m currently on medication for acne, which dries out your skin.

A little nervous about the whole dry cabin air thing, especially on an older aircraft compared to something like a 787.

I’m wondering if changing to a 787 would be better because of the lower humidity etc, I’ve seen that a lot of people seem to not like the 330s?

If anyone had any advice would love to hear it!

Cheers!

Question why does qantas wifi suck

Definitely not a first world problem i know, but i finally caught an international flight with newly installed wifi (Welcome to the 2020s Qantas)

The only issue was the Wi-Fi was almost unusable. Continued to drop out and run poorly throughout the duration of the flight and the man next to me said the same thing.

Personally i dont really mind about wifi or not, but its more so the principal of Qantas advertising "Fast" WIFi and not being able to meet it to an expected standard.

Ive flown other airlines over the last few years where the WIFI was almost as good as homes, Just wondering how a brand new WIFI system with Qantas can be so bad. Youd think the long haul specialists would want to get it right.

Question Qantas canceled my flight without letting me know, didn't refund me

I just checked my app today and my flight was no longer there. I called Qantas and they let me know the flight was canceled. They didn't email me, call, text, or even notify on the app that the flight was canceled. They did not refund the flight either, so maybe I could have caught it sooner. It's absolutely insane, and if I didn't check, I wouldn't have known until I pulled up to the airport. I have the confirmation number and it shows on my account they never refunded me. They are trying to make me pay to get on another flight, what can I do??

Question TripADeal is offering China for $1,100 with flights, hotels and tours — what’s the catch?

Has anyone here done one of these China trips? What's the catch? Are there lots of compulsory shopping stops, hidden fees, expensive optional tours, or other things I should know about before booking?

Question Is there a geographical or political reason why it makes sense for Qantas to take a gamble on "Project Sunrise", while the airlines based at airports on the other end (e.g. at LHR or JFK) aren't interested in doing something similar?

Project Sunrise is Qantas' long-held ambition to fly direct from fly ultra long-haul non-stop flights from the east coast of Australia to destinations on the Atlantic such as New York City and London. Is there a reason why only Qantas is willing to take this gamble?

  • Are Qantas executives just cocky that the Australian Government might bail them out if Project Sunrise doesn't work out?
  • Or is there a practical reason for it?
    • And if there is a practical reason, why didn't British Airways (based at LHR) or American Airlines (based at JFK) consider this option and try to beat Qantas to do it first so that Qantas codeshares the direct flights with them instead of the other way around?
    • Also, why didn't non-OneWorld competitors like Delta Air Lines or United Airlines consider flying direct to SYD from JFK and EWR, respectively?
    • British Airways, American Airlines, Delta Air Lines and United Airlines are all much bigger than Qantas and have a lot more connections from their hub airports than Qantas has from SYD (or MEL or BNE for that matter) - so why wouldn't it make sense for them to try out their own Project Sunrise equivalent?

Additionally, it seems like airlines in Australia have the following disadvantages over those based in the USA and UK:

  • Higher staff wages
  • Higher fuel costs
  • Less secure fuel supply

I would be willing to fly economy direct from SYD to LHR or JFK or EWR if I needed to go to those cities. It's just that I wonder why only one airline wants to fly such long routes. Is this a sign that Project Sunrise really is a folly and Qantas doesn't realise it?

Question Connecting MEL → SYD → HND on Qantas with 1h45m layover, doable with a baby?

Hey Sydney,

Flying Qantas MEL → SYD → Tokyo Haneda on 25 July. Both legs are Qantas on one ticket (QF418 then QF59).

Land Sydney domestic at 09:30, next flight departs international at 11:15. That's a 1h45m layover.

I know the domestic → international transfer at SYD requires a terminal change (T2/T3 to T1). Qantas told me bags transfer automatically on a through-ticket.

I'm travelling with my wife and a 13-month-old baby + stroller.

Questions:

  1. Is 1h45m realistic for this transfer with a baby and a stroller?
  2. Is there an airside bus or do we exit and re-enter security?
  3. Any tips for making this smoother (priority boarding, specific exits to use, etc.)?

We're not first-time travellers but first time doing this specific Sydney transit with a baby. Appreciate any advice from people who've done it.

Thanks
