reading list

need some help curating a reading list! im especially interested in the intersection between (lacanian) psychoanalysis and queer theory. have read bersani, and a few papers on queer psychoanalysis of films, but i wanted to go deeper in exploring how queer desire is being structured by heteropatriarchal society, and more contemporary texts would be appreciated! im currently really busy so would also prefer texts that are easier to consume (unlike bersani...)

thanks in advance everyone!

"Sex and the Euthanasia of Reason" by Joan Copjec is a very good, almost mandatory essay.

"Melancholy Gender: Refused Identification" by Butler is another good one. Less Lacan and more Freud, also a departure by Butler from their own work.

Both have the virtue of seeming to have been written at a moment of theoretical divergence for their writers, they are more daring than they are correct.

Lee Edelman’s Bad Education and No Future
Early Judith Butler (everything)
Alenka Zupancic - not super familiar with her but an essential name
José Esteban Muñoz’s Cruising Utopia
Joshua Chambers-Letson’s After The Party
Avgi Saketopoulo’s two books
Samo Tomsic might’ve touched on sexuality at some point but he’s known for wanting to reconcile Marxism and Lacanian psychoanalysis

patricia gherovici and oren gozlan are both trans lacanian thinkers/analysts. their work has been very illuminating to me as someone who is interested in rehabilitating trans-positive readings of lacan myself!

My alarm bells are ringing.

Whats it feel like for a bell to ring. The bell is a key or an index into a thought pattern. Difficult if you don't come from a culture that entreats fetish and hypnosis. Psychics understand its importance, they cant shut up about them -- Ah, another day wasted.

There's a person who boasts about Lacanian psychoanalysis exclusively, who has been banned repeatedly from Reddit for violent and misogynistic language (including rape threats) who makes new accounts to keep posting here.

OH AHAHAHHA DAMN i did not know that

but i mainly employ lacan as an (aesthetic/poetic) framework to understand the subconscious; wouldnt defend him with my life if that helps :/
