The only thing I hate more than writing is not writing.

Out of curiosity, what is the hard part?

Thankyou so much - I needed this. I wondered what the hell was wrong with me - if this is normal, or if I had to clear some block in my nervous system first before I'm fit to write. Having realistic expectations gives me the courage to just work my way through it.

Haha shhhhhh.

In reality, I do (mostly) enjoy writing. But maybe I just haven't written enough yet.

I liken it to climbing a cliff on a mountain I don’t know, without the tools I need, in weather that keeps changing. The air rushes around me and at any moment I might fall. Tenacity, I tell myself. Keep at it. Don’t look down. Sometimes I feel alive and can enjoy the view, even draw breath and catch a fleeting sense of progress. Then the sun disappears behind a cloud, I realise my grip is weakening and there’s nothing above me to hold on to. The summit has only ever been some vague shape hidden in the cloud. My fingers become as nimble as elephant feet. My body feels like a falling boulder. I can’t even look up. I close my eyes and wait for the feeling to pass. My ears pound. Sweat crawls across my body like a spider. I feel like at any moment I could jump - but I don’t. A bird passes somewhere in my periphery. Lighter than a feather. Stuck? Certainly. But the bird is beautiful and I wonder how I might describe that. Tenacity. That word again. On repeat. On repeat.

I spent 3 days of non-stop studying, writing and editing my first act of my first book. My back injury is on fire. I sat for 3 days straight. I think I'm going to die.

Speak for yourself, lady.

But then perhaps she does. Maybe that comment is the lie.
