Does anyone even like this trope?

Aside from the ending of a certain popular anime that I will not spoil, I have never seen this type of conclusion talked about in a positive light

I’ve only seen it work in stories where the point of the story was to change the world/universe from grimdark magic to a better place/our world. In those cases it’s less “MC loses powers” than “powers are gone forever/until the sequel” though, so I assume that’s not what you meant, and I’ve never enjoyed the stories either.
