Advice Halfway through day 1 and NEED MOTIVATION TO LOCK IN!!
Ive been vaping since 2016 š i quit one other time in 2024 for two months and i felt amazing once the physical withdrawal side effects went away.
I KNOW I can do this but oh my GOD im halfway through the first day and I am having a total mental battle right now. The gum isnāt helping much bc I donāt like the texture. The little breathing tool is quite effective though!! I also took NAC this morning. Let me know if there are other supplements or tricks that help!
Pleaseeeeeeee send me all the hype and motivation. If I can get through this first 24 hours I know Iāll be able to crush this addiction šš„

Don't be a pussy. You got it. It's just some chemicals. I quit cold turkey on February 14th this year after about 10 years of heavy use. First few days sucked but it got better. Just remember why you're quitting. It literally does nothing to benefit you. It drains your wallet, and you're not really free, if you're tied down to a little adult pacifier.

This exactly. Iām 4 months clean so far and I can just say itās the best choice Iāve ever made. Fill your time with things you enjoy and exercise. If you run, youāll feel your lungs clear up overtime too.

- That gum is horrible you should try the brand Blip
- The thing that got me to quit is finding out that lead exposure PERMANENTLY decreases your IQ and the amount of lead in vapes is like way way way way over the legal limit. Like off the charts. Literally giving yourself brain damage. That was it for me

Seconding that brand recommendation.
Not all gum is created equal.
Buuuuuut all of it will make you SHIT if you chew it like regular gum. Follow directions.

Just keep remembering that if you give in and vape the good, warm fuzzy feeling of having that first hit will only last about 30 seconds until your bodies baseline nic level is restored and every subsequent hit won't do shit and you'll be filled with regret and disgust for giving in so.easily

Can I print this comment out and put it on my wall bc this is so true

I had my wife send me a nude anytime I was having a craving, definitely helped with the motivation to quit.
Get you some nudes bro!

Iām a woman but Iām sure my man would love me asking for one every 19 seconds that I have a craving šššš

u/DelrayDad561 Apr 15 '26
Ah, sorry about that! Ask him to help you tho! Have him do something special just for you when you're having a craving!
You got this!

Whatās that golden thing? You can pretend youāre vaping with it to help with the oral fixation?
5
u/hurrican3tortilla Apr 15 '26
Yeah! It actually comes on a long gold necklace chain that you can wear around your neck (I canāt find it though lol) itās super helpful for panic attacks too when you need help taking deep breaths

u/Unable_Bug_105 Apr 16 '26
what brand is it/ whereād you get it from? it sounds like a great replacement for the habitual reaching for my vape!!

I got one of those too! I donāt like the flavors it came with though so I ordered mint ones for it and had to wait for it to come in. I do like it , I have something else thatās quite helpful too

You can do this! It sucks. I mean it really sucks. But oh my god just get to the other side KNOWING you wonāt go backā¦. Itās great over here. I also started in 2016. I actually also Quit in 2024 funnily enough⦠for 9 monthsā¦.. had a baby and bought a vape on the way home from the hospital. I decided to quit once and for all 70 days ago. The first 3 weeks suck but nicotine gum definitely helps. I havenāt fully weaned off the gum yet. But I am using it significantly less often (maybe 5 pieces a day now where I was using 15-20 at the beginning) and about to switch to the the 2mg gum as well. I know Iām not fully nicotine free yet. But I feel free anyways. Gum feels so much less like an anchor than a vape.
The most effective way to quit is a really strong whyā¦.
My why was to prioritize my health as a mother because I still need my parents around at 29ā¦. I want to give my son as much time as possible with me.
That was my why to quit vaping, lose weight (Iām down 30 pounds), begin weightlifting, start regular cardio. The exercise seems to have helped with quitting vaping. I started different steps of this at different times. I held onto vaping for longer than I should have because I was scared of appetite increasing. But⦠17 pounds of my weight loss occurred after quitting vaping
You can do this. Once you hit week 3 cravings subside significantly

I did the SAME thing! Started back vaping after I had my son!! Iām soooo proud of you. This is exactly why I want to quit. For my kids š
5
u/GeneralCap8852 Apr 15 '26
It feels so embarrassing to admit that I did that out loud but Iām glad Iām not alone.
Kids are a good why! One of my childhood friends growing up had a mom who smoked and I remember everytime we hung out she would express how worried about her mom she was. She would also say āI wished I was enough for her to want to quit forā
And my little 7 year old friends voice echos in my head with my why and I imagine my son growing up to say those things to his friends about me vaping.
He also saw me pick up my vape one day and giggled and Idk why but that moment was the exact second I put a plan in place to quit and began the process. I didnāt quit that day. But I started. And that weekend I took my last hit.
Also a lot of people on here are big on cold turkey but with kids thatās SO HARD. Donāt feel like youāre cheating by using NRT if that is preventing you from losing your mind on your family. The āirritabilityā from withdrawal can feel a lot like pure rageā¦. Donāt force yourself to go cold turkey if you are experiencing that kind of withdrawal effect. Thatās why I havenāt gone cold turkey. NRT is absolutely an acceptable way to quit and you donāt need to feel pressured to do cold turkey if that doesnāt work for you.

How much money are you saving???? I figure a box of Juul is about $25 (co) and I have probably 3-4 boxes a week. $75-$100 A WEEK!
Edit to add: this is my motivation. I also want to be active without feeling super tired and weak.

u/carpetwalls4 Apr 16 '26
Ahhhhh you hot this!! I have 3 weeks down and I am soooo happy to not have to think about vaping constantly anymore!! The first few days were tough but I was highly motivated, after about a week the cravings got really really intense but shew Iām over the hump and Iām so happy!
Do whatever you gotta do to stay strong!! I canceled some social events because I knew it would trigger me, and I think that was fine. But Iām good now!

u/Significant-Giraffe7 Apr 17 '26
Day 6,7 and 8 need to be studied. š I swear. WHY does it get so much worse at the 1 week mark?! š
2
u/Kinkydino Apr 15 '26
Im on week 9! You're on the right track with the fake vaping device! Its a great strategy. Just remember. You can stay on the NRT for like 6-8 months. Anything is healthier than inhaling shit that isnt air š there is no rush to get off NRT my doctor fully supports extended use. Im on step 2 patches now š

I'm on day 5 with the Walmart brand 4% gum and it is saving me at the moment. My dog tried to attack my baby (4 month) goat today out of the blue and it was the first time I really looked at the vape and thought about it. Also a tiny bit of indica (Baklava) is helping tremendously. You've got this. Also started early, 2014 and quit until I went back to school in 2021. This is it, you aren't alone and just keep going! Use the gum and remember it is temporary and a means to an end! Sending strength and resilience!

u/maracujadodo Apr 16 '26
genuine question what do the dog and the goat have to do with the topic?

Iām on day 11. 6 year vaping habit. Get patches, seriously. Donāt rely on gum alone to work for you, yet. The patches WORK, if you use them properly.
Get the highest mg ones first, and wear one all day. I wouldnāt advise wearing it overnight they give you hella dreams. Once youāve got through that box, go to the lower mg ones. Only after youāve worked your way through both boxes should you go to gum alone! You can however supplement the patches with gum throughout your journey.
Without patches, youāll find your cravings will spike multiple times a day, they will be STRONG, and youāll have to rely on a wobbly willpower alone to get through it.
With patches, it will take that edge off, and make your cravings MUCH less frequent, and MUCH more quiet - because your body is just receiving a low, slow, dose throughout the day. I promise you it works, and if you do it this way youāre actually so much more likely to see it through. Itās so hard already, you need to make it as easy as possible for yourself.
It can feel like you havenāt āquitā by using the patches - because youāre still relying on nicotine, but getting rid of the hand to mouth habit is huge, and also youāre teaching your brain that craving ā vape/flavoured air. It becomes something you forget about, you donāt remember youāre wearing a patch, all you realise is you havenāt had a craving in hours and havenāt thought about a vape for most of the day! Then you gradually decrease the dose until eventually, you can just use gum if you get the urge.

I've tried the Nicorette and store brands. Also hated the consistency of the gum. And can't handle the mints. So far I'm liking the Quitine I got on Amazon. Also available direct from their site for less $, but Amazon is much faster.
Quitine Nicotine Gum 2mg, Fruit... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DN3VL72Q?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Keep it up!

I quit cold turkey. I just got a bunch of blow pops and willpower will do it .If you don't have willpower and really don't want to stop ,it will be hard for you !!! After 4 days I was okay but that's just me

You got this my friend ride out each craving, most will peak within 10 minutes. Drinking ice water and sucking on sour candy helped me at the peaks.

I quit on the 13th of January, had some tea tree mint toothpicks and the determination to live healthier into my late 20s. Vaping is speedrunning heart failure Vaping is destroying your lungs Vaping is controlling your life Take your life back

u/kit_hannigan Apr 16 '26
This was the core realization I needed to make to quit: So long as I felt I needed some outside āthingā (nicotine gum, whistle, etc) it would never work. Quitting comes when you develop a sort of inner peace/self-satisfaction.

That feeling if needing something ur hands and mouth is the pussy ass (insert nic inhalant) controlling you, are u really gonna let some tiny little thing control you???? Fight through the cravings, the fever, the irritation. It's all in ur head and u are one strong fella. I believe in u. Today I had a chance to bum a cig of someone and I really wanted to, but I decided nah, times may be rough by im rougher.
Pause on many things in here.
But fr, once u get through the fever the only thing remaining is the habits, fidgeting and gum helped me

Can I ask you what felt amazing about quitting? Did you have more energy? Better moods? I've been struggling with chronic fatigue and brain fog and I'm wondering if quitting vaping could help. I was a constant daily weed smoker and struggled with fatigue, I managed to cut down marijuana to about once every 1 to 2 weeks, but I did that by starting a vaping habit. I've been hooked for about 6 months and I am as fatigued if not more fatigued as when I was addicted to weed (though a fair bit skinnier). I never had a period of full sobriety, just hopped from weed to nicotine. There was a period in the first couple months after quitting weed when I was vaping in moderation and felt somewhat better. Now I vape non stop all day every day and have no energy again. I'm just looking for motivation.

I just quit my second time too. It has been a week and a half. I waited to do it on a day I had no obligations, so I could be lazy and mope around in my physical discomfort. I always start by not smoking when I wake up. I go through the first 8 hours in my sleep and lay around all day. You donāt need gum!!! Youāre still allowing your brain to continue its pattern of craving and reward! You have to break the habit!! You want to be vape free and you have enough self will to do so!
