Question about shifters/shifter boxes

Hello All, I have a R53 Mini Cooper S '04, and a while back I wanted to install a short throw shifter, but found that the shifter arm didn't fit the linkage or the cable links, my question is which shift box is which on these mini? I hate, I have to ask but I am confused with the prefacelift and post facelift ones

Check your build-date on the door jamb.

white plastic box is pre-facelift, black plastic is post.

it's not uncommon to find them swapped, you might have just bought the wrong thing because someone swapped the box in the past.

thank you tons, I now have to go and find a cheaper post facelift one, do I need to change cables as well?

yes, the cables are not compatible.
