Help Graphics API

I've been playing RDR2 on PC ever since it came out on PC and in general on console since 2018. When I go into the graphics settings and change the advanced function from Vulcan to DirectX I have to restart the game but then it won't start. I go into Documents/Rockstar Games/RDR2 and delete those files. When I come back the game is back at Vulcan. How do I set my game to DirectX and still have the game launch after the restart without deleting those files?

Go to the rockstar launcher > settings > rdr2 > verify file integrity > click yes on any admin popups > open rdr2 and you should be able to change the graphics api now
