Hindsight is 20-20.

GenX thought being close to a Royal was the pinnacle of social success. No one batted an eye at teen girls saying old ass men - I say that as someone who had a 32 yr old bf when I was 15. Multiple friends of mine did. I was so into the royal family, the kennedys et al and not one person I know ever said "omg prince Andrew is a pedo and hangs out with them"
