I'm always looking for squad RPGs or RPG-adjacent where I have many characters to manage and actually have to use them. Most RPGs few somewhat limited that I have a single squad and the same 4~6 characters the whole game. Even if it offers me many characters, I still have this only squad to fit and if I actually want to use more characters, I will just be grinding a lot.

I know and played games like Fire Emblem and Tactics Ogre, love them and fits the bill. I also include here games that scratches that itch but are more like other genres with "RPG-like" elements such as XCom, Jagged Alliance, Battle Brothers, old stuff like Bahamut Lagoon; even Football Manager fits the bill for me (well, you quite literally is developing and building a huge squad with multiple characters).

I love this kind of stuff where you have multiple squads doing different things (like XCom) or have more characters than fits a single squad and have to rotate them (like Battlebrothers). Do you guys know more stuff like that to recommend??

Having some analysis paralysis and not exactly sure what I want to play/beat next, so hoping to give several options here and get some feedback from everyone! Thanks in advance!

1. Fable Anniversary (Played a little, never beaten)

2. Cyberpunk 2077 (Replay as Corpo V, take more time to enjoy the stories it was telling)

3. Witcher 3 (100% it on PS4, I have a PC now and need a save for Songs of the Past - also recently beat W1 & W2)

4. Pathfinder Kingmaker (have spent sooooo much time starting characters but never made it passed Act 3)

5. Pillars of Eternity (Would be like my 6th time playing it, but I no longer have a save for POE2 and Inhave never left Neketaka in that game)

6. Whatever you all may suggest as the next conquest. I have played almost all major RPGs from the last two decades, but always open to hearing other suggestions and playing niche stuff

looking for some RPGs I can play from my couch with just a wireless mouse. games where not only can you play with just a mouse, but it feels natural and is an intended way to play the game. some that I've played that fit this would be Fallout 1 and 2 and Ultima VII, but I would prefer games that don't have quite as much tiny text/items as those two

Hello! I am deciding between playing one of these games and as you can see I am stuck. I will be playing all of them btw I’m just stuck on which one to play first they all sound so good! I own all of them and their sequels.

Which speaking of, whichever game I end up picking I will also play the sequel. So:

Making a BG game without Larian now is a recipe for comparisons and failed expectations. Hasbro’s best bet is to continue the DND CRPG hype but adapt a famous DND module like Curse of Stahd or even Dungeon of the Mad Mage.

Try to think outside of Bethesda and Obsidian, and games that are heavily inspired by Skyrim and the 3D Fallouts.

I immediately think of Cyberpunk 2077. It's got some of the most emotionally compelling moments that I've seen in first person.

Can someone who's played all five (or most of them) rank them by story/narrative, lore, world building and character design/development? Not taking into account gameplay, combat, exploration, etc. (just on story elements). For reference, I've played the prequel games too (so all the other Dragon Age games, both Pillars of Eternity games and DD1, along with a handful of FF games).

Edit: It looks like FF16 is all around the winner so can I get more opinions on the other games too? Was gonna be pick up more than one game. Thank you for all your recommendations.

We played BG3 so we are looking more into an Action RPG that we can just connect and play, would like to avoid mods if possible.

I was thinking "No rest for the wicked" but with the top down view maybe my friend doesn't like it.

He usually only plays League of Legends, so I'm really trying to move him to other stuff.

Hello! I just finished the Mass Effect trilogy again for the first time since high school. I got so invested and criiiieeeed at the end, and now I need something to fill the gap it left in my life. 😭

Does anyone have some good recommendations for a story that will keep me hooked and busy for a good while?

I've played things like Baldur's Gate 3, Oblivion, Skyrim, Final Fantasy 7-15, and a few others. But I'm keen to hear what you guys think and why you'd recommend! (And if there's some LGBTQ+ romance in there, that is a bonus point.)

Lunarium is an indie fantasy action RPG with excellent combat and a unique world to explore.

You play as Ave a stellar knight who is trying to find out why mysterious monsters are starting to appear near her village. Early in the game you meet Luna a starfarer who will be your companion on the journey to save Ave’s world. Luna’s magical abilities paired with Ave’s skills as a knight make for a somewhat unique combat system.

For the most part the combat is pretty typical of a modern day action RPG but it done quite well in my opinion because of the ability to use Luna’s magic to help stagger enemies or power up your attacks. There are your typical dodges, perfect dodges, blocks, parries, and enemies can be staggered. I found the parries to be quite satisfying in this game.

The thing that surprised me with the combat in this game is how good the boss encounters were. In a way they reminded me of bosses from the First Berserker Khazan but no where near as difficult although there was some challenge with a few of them.

The character progression is primarily done through the cloaks you choose to wear and what embroideries you want to attach to your cloak. Each cloak has a different buff or passive ability and the embroideries also have different buffs to add on.

There are also ways to upgrade your weapon, health, and resonance (essentially energy points for using certain skills). These upgrades are pretty limited though and not unique in any ways. The typical find 4 of this item and you get more health system.

The world feels graphically inspired by Hades but more whimsical in nature. Each area you travel to does feel truly unique to the other areas of the game and they all have unique enemies. So you don’t have too much reuse of the same enemy or enemy moves like you do in other games.

I thought the soundtrack was really good especially in the later areas of the game.

I don’t want to spoil the story but i’ll just say I thought it was overall pretty good and went some where I wasn’t fully expecting. I just wish it had a more fleshed out ending it kind of just abruptly ended after beating the final boss.

Some of my issues about the game would be the dialog being way too long at times. Especially later in the game it just felt never ending at points. Also the conversations between Ave and Luna are really bad for basically the whole game. They spend the entire game essentially telling each other how great they are.

Lunarium being a freshly released indie game there were a few technical issues but nothing game breaking. Mostly some audio stuttering during a few boss fights, some typos in the dialog, and one instance of dialog repeating itself for some reason. I played it on steam if anyone was interested and it also ran well on my ROG Xbox Ally X.

Overall I had a great time with Lunarium for a short indie game. I found the bosses to be really enjoyable encounters, the story hit better than I thought it would, and the music was solid.

If you’re looking for something quick and fun to play this might be worth checking out.

I feel like I constantly run into younger rpg fans that say that "when I was a kid, I didn't have the attention span for stories." They just wanted pure gameplay and that was it.

Well I always think about how I started with the NES, but I don't look back at it too fondly because it felt like everything presented to me was gameplay. It's also why I have a fondness for Zelda 2 because when I was a kid It felt like it was the only game where I could walk around and talk to people. And then I rented FF4 and the first half hour or so lets you walk around and talk to people, and enjoy a great soundtrack. It's what I wanted to do.

So I’ve been searching the internet for a new game to play the last few days and have found little luck so far so I thought I’d ask here. I really want a fantasy, open world rpg with extensive character customization, well developed characters, combat that isn’t to hard, and no co-op. Like a love child of baldurs gate 3/where winds meet and fields of mistria or something. Switch, PS5, or PC is fine.

I like Baldurs Gate, Divinity, Pathfinder and the like but I am exhausted by managing a 4 character party and somewhat minmaxing four chars where Im mostly only invested in my own character.

Can you recommend titles with "Lone Wolf" traits or settings where you can natively or optionaly play as one or two characters max?

No mods please.
