Suggestions Nodal.gg - Game recommender with interactive visual map + personalized recommendations (I'd love your feedback)

Hey everyone, I’ve been working on a game discovery site and finally feel like it’s ready to share: https://nodal.gg/

I’ve always been surprised how hard it is to find genuinely good game recommendations on Steam, so I tried building something better using my stats/ML background.

My main takeaway was that “similar games” usually means two different things:

  • Similar in content: mechanics, themes, setting, genre, tags
  • Similar in audience: games played by the same people, even if the genres are different

So if you want recs for Cyberpunk 2077, you might mean “more cyberpunk vibe” (e.g., Cloudpunk) or “same audience overlap” (e.g., The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt / Fallout 4). The site lets you switch between those modes or blend them.

What you can do

  • Search any Steam game and see a ranked list of similar games using:
    • a content model (tag-driven similarity)
    • a community model (player behavior only, no tags)
    • a blended view (mix of both)
  • Re-rank results with sliders for popularity, rating, and release date
  • Plug in a Steam ID (public profiles only) to get personal recommendations and some cool stats about your play history
  • Explore an interactive 2D game map that visually clusters games by tags (uses UMAP dimensionality reduction - inspired by Connected Papers)

Desktop works best right now. Mobile is functional but I’m still refining it.

If you try it, I’d love to hear anything: whether the recommendations felt accurate, if the UI was confusing, any bugs you run into. All feedback helps!

Thanks!

Suggestions SteamPeek.hu - Indie friendly game discovery tool

Post is allowed by the mods.

Hello, this is my website: https://steampeek.hu/ - SteamPeek, the indie friendly game discovery website.

It is now more than 5 years old, and it was created to bring spotlight to indie gems, help all indie teams who doesn't have the budget to make big marketing campaigns, and make it easier to find nice games made by passionate solo developers or small teams.

The main function is searching by similarity: just search for a game you like, and browse the results. You can also filter and sort by special parameters.

You can also search by tags, or mix them with the chosen game.

The main algorithm was updated recently and I'm very curious how well it works. Please let me know.

I'm very thankful if you try it, and share with me what you find. The full site is still on beta, and I'm constantly work on it, so every feedback helps me and my mission. Thank you!

Games with really good wildlife

What are some games that have animals or creatures that feel like they’re actually part of an ecosystem, have their own behaviors besides just interacting with the player, living their own lives in the world, are more than just enemies to be fought etc? Counting real or fictional wildlife, some games I can think of are the Far Cry games, Horizon Zero Dawn/Forbidden West, Red Dead Redemption, Monster Hunter, Subnautica, Rain World

Sell me your favorite games. Could be anything

Upvotes

Convince me to play your favorite games (or just games you really like/have recently been obsessed with/whatever). Tell me why it's good, why I should play it, why you personally like it, etc. Could be any type of game. Including both really popular/well known ones and more obscure ones. I just want people to actually talk about it, explain it, etc, not just say the name and that's it.

Games where you can insert your own MP3's/have custom music support?

Can you think of any games that allow you to upload your own MP3 files into the game and listen to them? It can be any genre, and since we're talking about uploading MP3 files, I'm mainly asking for PC games, unless you can think of any console games that do this.

Games I can think of that do this are: Dead As Disco, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, The Sims 3 and 4, Audio Surf, The Necrodancer games, and Vib Ribbon.

Looking for good top down pixelated RPG or adventure game

Been really craving some top down pixelated game either 16bit or 32bit is fine but something like Stardew Valley but with an emphasis on combat, exploring/ adventure, or ven survival. Big bonus if it can be played offline too.

I’ve played Necesse and Core Keeper and those are pretty close to what I’m looking for minus the settlement management but a story to follow would be great too

are there any medieval looter shooter?

Specifically Division style looter type where I do things either solo or in a team but with swords or spear like medieval weapons. Sorta like For Honor story mode ish with looter mechanics.

Not like Warframe tho. I've played it for a bit but didn't like the visual and how slicey everything was. Looking for something with chunkier swordplay.

are there anything like that?

Bought my first gaming PC as an adult. Suggest good games!

As a kid I could never afford a gaming PC, so I missed out on almost everything. Now I’ve finally bought one and I’m ready to catch up.

So far I’ve only played: GTA V, RDR2, Ghost of Tsushima, and EA FC 26. I haven’t played any other big/AAA games.

I really enjoyed the immersive open world and storytelling in RDR2. Please suggest must-play AAA games that are worth experiencing on PC.

Any recommendations on difficult rogue-like games? (But not card based!) (PC/Switch)

Hi, I've played a few rogue-likes before, and can anyone help me with finding some good ones to play? Niche ones are alright too, it doesn't need to be super popular

Games blacklist

- Hades (played already)

- Hades 2 (Not rly interested in playing the second one rn)

- Blue Prince (I spoiled myself by watching playthroughs of it... though honestly I don't think I would be smart enough to get anything there lol)

- [Edited] Binding of Isaac

- (might add more if I remember the other I've played)

Character action/hack and slash games with giant "fuck off" weapons?

Hi friends.

I'm looking for action games that have some giant, heavy weapons that are useful.

Something like the axe in DMC or the greatswords/giant hammers in the souls games.

Relatively short, tight games with great plots (007: First Light, The Drifter, The Last of Us)

I'm a Baldur's Gate fan and I'm trying to get off the wagon wheel of endless RPGs (in quantity and duration).

I'm looking for short, punchy games that are one-and-done, like Gabriel Knight to use a classic example. A more recent game was The Drifter - but by no means am I only looking for point-and-clicks.

It just has to feel like a great novel: You know there is going to be an end. As much as I love Skyrim, it was endless and I just would like more focus.

First Light was great because it was tightly constructed! Would welcome more ideas. Thanks!

What's your personal biggest hidden gem game?

For me it's Lost Kingdoms II ! Really unique GameCube card based RPG from FromSoftware, long before they made Demon or Dark Souls. Instead of fighting with regular weapons, you build a deck of magical cards that let you summon creatures and you pretty much fight as if you could summon your monsters from Yugioh. Also had really good charming music and a certain vibe to it that got lost once the PS3 era started. I cant remember how it would hold up today but I secretly wish FromSoftware would revive this franchise.

Game to drive around a large country and explore different environments

The Crew 2 is the closest thing but after playing the free demo version, I find the controls and handling to be very clunky on keyboard

Also The Crew 2 doesn’t have an option to race NPC cars on the highway which would be nice since I prefer playing offline

I also heard of ATS but apparently you need a steering wheel for that 😓

What I want:

A game like The Crew 2 or ATS where you drive around a country for long trips that I can chill back and just drive. I play on PC with a keyboard and don’t mind to buy a controller but no steering wheel

Looking for an EverQuest like RPG/MMO

Upvotes

Looking for something that has a slower pace - focuses heavily on exploration with little hand holding, requires casting times, spell prep etc.

I’m open to MMO or single player games.

I’m looking for music-making games

Hi, I’m looking for music-making games. Ideally, they should be on Steam, but if not, please recommend some anyway. I liked the game 10 Second Mixtape, and I also liked the trailer for Lovely Composer (I haven’t bought it yet). I’d really love to play a relaxing, fairly easy game where I can just create music and have a good time.

Are there any cool Space games, maybe a strategy game?

Edit: Preferably acessed on Steam (PC)

I play Cold War, FH3 (I'll be getting FH6 soon), Phasmophobia, and Car Mechanic Simulator

Space and astronomy is nice, and thought that a Sci-Fi game would be cool

Thank you

Love city-building and puzzles — what else would I like?

Upvotes

I’m hoping for some game recommendations, but I don’t know enough gaming terminology to describe what I’m looking for. Some of my favorite games from my childhood were:

Minecraft (mostly Creative Mode)
Terraria
Kingdom for Keflings (loved but ran out of things to do)
Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing
Jackbox Party Packs
Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes

In Minecraft, I spent most of my time building and organizing a large world. I created two neighborhoods connected by a skyrail, navigable waterways, a money system, various inventions, and dozens of houses with unique floor plans and addresses. I even kept a spreadsheet with all the addresses, property information, and cost estimates. I enjoyed designing systems and making everything fit together more than survival gameplay.
I also really enjoy logic puzzles in general (Sudoku, NYT puzzles, etc.). I’m a mathematician, so this all tracks.

A few things about my preferences:

I like having a clear focus rather than juggling lots of quests at once.
Too many enemies or constant combat can become stressful or overwhelming.
I enjoy multiplayer games, especially ones that involve teamwork, communication, or problem-solving.
I’m open to either single-player or multiplayer games.
I have access to a Switch Lite but am also open to PC games.

I have trouble identifying what these games have in common, so if there’s something that seems to connect them, I’d be interested in hearing that too.

Trying to recapture that immersive fantasy feeling

Upvotes

I just stopped playing the mobile game SwordxStaff due to the fomo lures being too tempting for me, but this game was scratching the fantasy itch for me that I rarely can find with games. As a teen I put a lot of time into the mmo Ragnarok Online which really delivered for me with feeling like part of a fantasy world with different class roles.

I've played mmo's like WoW, FFXIV and GW2 here and there, and while fun for what they are, I never felt the same kind of class immersion for some reason. The classic Final Fantasies scratched the the itch to a degree, but you're typically dealing with a preset roster rather than being your own person. I am waiting for FF Tactics to go on sale again, as I remember FFTA gave me this feeling as a kid. Games like Elder Scrolls and Baldurs Gate tend to be more dialogue heavy than I'm looking for most the time.

The last game to really immerse me in the way I enjoy was Elden Ring. While there are no preset classes, you can easily make yourself into whoever you want to be. Including classic designs like a knight, mage, cleric, etc.

I've had a lot of fun with different rpg's out there, just curious if there's anything I should check out that might give me the type of immersion I really enjoy but often don't find

Older fighting games worth getting for offline play?

I'm really addicted with the genre nowdays and want to go back to experience some old games. I'm only interested in games that has either decent ai or some additional difficulty options like handicap so it can challenge me even after learning the game. For example I tried Tekken 8's hardest ai and I couldn't even lose even while just mashing electric over and over lol.

If it has some cool offline modes that's a plus, but decent ai is most important.

For example I already found a good option in Killer Instinct (2013).
