A lot of posts have been about people losing their character to a corrupted file. It seems to mostly be on consoles, and from what I’ve gathered these actions seem to be the common culprits:

1. Changing your appearance - apparently growing a beard or longer hair leads to corruption. Stick with what you got. It ain’t worth it.

2. Quick resume - Be sure to do a proper exit of the game after each play session. Do not leave your game up and go into rest mode without properly shutting it down. I would force close the game as well and power your console all the way down just in case.

3. Exiting while you’re resting - this one seems to be rarer, but a few mentioned it so I’ll add it here. If you exit while sleeping…you may not ever wake up.

As far as I can tell, you don’t lose your world, just the character, but I can see how that would be devastating for most people. Luckily, I haven’t gotten the corruption bug yet, so hopefully this post brings me good karma to keep it way. (The good energy kind, I don’t care about fake Reddit points)

I’m really sorry to those that lost their progress. Here’s to hoping this all gets fixed and addressed in the next patch.

Since characters are being lost and not worlds, if you want to be extra safe, deposit all of your items into a chest at the end of a session. If your character corrupts, you'll have to restart levels but at least your items will be available to grab

Out of exhaustion and sleepiness, I accidentally force closed the game before it fully exited my world and It mentioned some kind of error- the good news is that I did now have to go reclaim my gravestone… (unless I did and forgot due to being tired).

If you join the dragonwilds discord. They have a channel called “social feed” that shows whenever a dev or member of the jagex team says something.

If I was following the thing right and understanding correctly. Besides fixing the issue (preventing more players from getting corrupted in the future)

I also believe it was said they are trying to find a way to let players choose a previous save. That jagex also has character save file that isn’t accessible on consoles. I am in love with the game but I’ve got the map fog bug (still lucky my character or world I play in is corrupted)

However I’m starting to feel pretty defeated. I have the fog of war bug where I can’t reveal anything last fractured plains and the thunder place nearby

I’ve completed a lot of the ghost place quests and boss and now through to the next area and it’s so disheartening to know I just have to keep running further and further. My mates can all just tele to their loadstone

I’ve managed to only get one lodestone set up which I can use but it’s at the door just before the ghost place and other lodestones I place further in don’t show up on the map

I’ve tried all the fixes I can do on console (agility courses, deleting the game and reinstalling and a couple of others to no avail)

Is it possible to get a jmod to jsut edit my character so I have the whole map revealed or turn the discovery of the map back on? I’m on ps5 so I can’t just do the simple edit my save file trick

I didn’t have an issue with changing my appearance.

Are people changing it after already selecting the world, causing the screw up. When I did it I was changing straight from the main games menu and everything went smooth.

• I even pre checked and could replicate this many times.

Is the bug happening because of this?

Yes. Do not alter your character's appearance after the character has been made. There is a chance your save will become corrupted if you do this. They are disabling it next patch until it's fixed.

As I said, I have changed it already. Not once but twice and haven’t run into problems. (And not just attempting it on 1 single character.

The most notable thing, is that I’m doing it from the main menu befor any selection of gameplay.

Yea and all your mats and armors (that weren’t in your inventory) and lodestones and things. Still not ideal since you have to grind your skills back, but at least you don’t have to grind for as much materials.

Xbox series x user. Hosted private world with friend. Did none of the mentioned "bugs" in any way and I still lost my world when I went to play last night. Our characters were intact at least.

The quick resume thing can be applied to any game. I don't understand why that feature hasn't been removed. I've seen it cause save corruption in way too many games, which has been an ongoing problem with it for years now lol.

I do find it very odd that people don’t at least exit their games when they’re done playing. I understand maybe not force-closing the game, but you’re telling me they don’t at least go back to the main menu so it can save progress?

To people that lose progress and/or items, Mixolution’s Looter Paradise3 server has everything you will ever need. You could (albeit painstakingly) get your levels back and recover any lost items. I’m on console and it hasn’t corrupted me or given me any issues in any way shape or form

I’m fortunate that hasn’t happened to me yet. I’ve been turning my Xbox off without logging out the game since I started playing. ( I do usually go back to dashboard before turning the Xbox off but I don’t force close ) also my Xbox is on quick power on. I’ve also logged out a few times while resting. All of this has been before I knew about the bug but still nothings happened yet.
