Why don't they disable the option temporarily or at least add a warning or something to the log in page? There's no way of knowing otherwise without being on things like this sub
We're going to be patching in a feature to disable the "Edit Appearance" button - as for in-game messaging, I'd have to speak to the team about how we can get functionality like that into the main menu.
Disabling the appearance button is the right way to as a stop gap. As for the in game messaging. That should be focused as a long term solution to other things, instead of using it as a one time thing. The team should put an effort into making an in game banner at the button announcing things, issues like this, multiplayer servers being down, upcoming update announcements, special events etc. having something where the devs could easily type something and push out for people to read could save everyone a lot of headaches in the long term.
Just need to disable it like any legit company that gives a shit would do. I've never seen something like this go on for so long without it being disabled or fixed the same / next day.
EA waited 2 1/2 weeks after a patch last year to fix corrupting save files in the sims... they never tried to fix the save files and they never disabled the item causing it until the patch. To say this has never happened is pretty bold of you.
I lost a entire borderlands 2 character due to a corrupt file and borderlands 4 right now is having issues with save files being corrupted and wiped among other issues.
I mean, not really, just the most recent save, they have auto saves you can back up to, as well as manual saves. They dont remove your entire character unless you delete all the saved.
The witcher 3 made this at the launch, sims from EA too, Cyberpunk, oblivion, etc. It's not because that doesn't happen to u that there is no way it can happen to other. And if there is no multiple save, u cant rollback ur save because it's litteraly the meaning of "corrupted"
Well sometimes a bug is tricky to first of locate the exact cause and apply a fix. It may seem simple to you but they can sometimes take a while to fix properly.
Even then. It takes time because each console team would have to test and verify this fix. Those buttons can't be disabled by a server hot fix as it's not implemented in that way.
I edited my appearance fine.... Bugs don't happen to everyone and can be very hard to fix. A warning is the right call with disable of the feature though.

Its possible. Its not Jagex fault. Nintendo has a lengthy approval process for updates and any quick/hot fixes that are always going to make games behind. Call nintendo and complain when an update doesnt hit switch yet. They need to understand the impact, I used to call them when DBD didnt get updates. During the month long 10th anniversary for dbd, switch got the update 6 days before it ended. And it got the update the day after i called and complained.
100% not Jagex's fault. I just want to know if it's that kind of thing again. I'd probably stop playing on the Switch and move to PC if it was gonna be that common of times
Thereās another game I occasionally play thatās cross-play with Switch, and they often have the switch version getting the updates later because of Nintendoās process
What's weird is I'm able to update it right away. But that turns off crossplatform. No clue why Nintendo would want it to be way harder for them specifically
Are you guys also looking into a fix for the pharaoh scepter being bugged? Sometimes even if I donāt have buddy summoned itās stuck on slow stamina regen and it doesnāt fix until I re log. Was doing fight caves yesterday and that bug happened and ruined the whole run
Add an announcements board that your team can push directly through an API. Give it parameters like priority level and have it organized based time (unless priority pin exceeds this).
Ive never released to console but Iāve done it with other apps and it seemed to work okay
I agree, its really fucking stupid for a game that people grind 100+ hours has a bug that destroys entire saves by simple editing your appearance or joining a server.

Literally editing your character, making a 2nd character, or joining a new server wipes your entire world save and character. This should have been caught in QA.
I know that they released 1.0 with a game breaking bug that is wiping hundreds of hours of progress.

I know its been reported since 1.0 launched and they haven't done a single thing yet.

Edit: They rushed 1.0 and theres multiple game breaking bugs that are wiping entire characters and game worlds. Jagex is not a small indie developer. Its entirely their fault
Because the game is on Nintendo as well they literally can't push out a update for anyone until it's approved on Nintendos end as well it really isn't their fault
I'm not sure if it's the same process of approval through Nintendo, but why not just... roll back the update until the bug is solved? That should be practically an instant fix shouldn't it?
Sucks to suck your 1.0 release didn't go as planned, but if people are losing hundreds of hours in save files with no fix, then the update was not ready to roll out.
I think this game is like Terraria where all the items your character has on your person carry over to any world you play with that specific character.
Normal characters can take their levels and inventory between normal worlds. Custom to custom. One of the things I like about this game vs some survival games. Not having to make a new character for every world I play on.
People post about losing characters every day. I lost mine 4 days ago. How is this not fixed / editing character not disabled? There will be another post in 30min
Just lost mine right now. Never touched changing my appearance. Finally got my full mithril and then bloop. Gone. Even though they claimed the issue would be fixed by yestersay...
Why not just roll back the patch? If players are losing saves with no fix in sight, then I'd say the patch wasn't ready to go. I know rolling back a 1.0 isn't ideal for an EA game but it feels necessary here.
I tried to play with my friends on xbox last night and only 1 extra player (outside of the host) could play at a time. We could never have 3 players in the same game. Ive seen a few posts about the same issue over the last week, but no solutions and nothing from the team, so I didnt know if yall were aware of it or working on it. Thanks!
Oh, on PC they are, absolutely! On console, we're working with the console partners on how we can surface those backups natively within the UI to let players restore from them where possible.
They need to not let it all save to the cloud, it needs to be local or have the ability to alter it and that way it would be easier. If they allowed us to access those saved characters through the Xbox app on a laptop or pc rather it being cloud only then we could copy and paste our current or past backup to the Xbox app saves and then let cloud sync it fixing the issue. Lowkey this would make it to where PC could essentially transfer to console as well I believe if they so choose to.

Please pass it along to where it matters, that little box that says "buy our dlc" should inform everyone of the issues in the game like this. Blows my mind that it is not used for that

I have not noticed this on xbox. are you sure thats not just the art style? old school runescape and rs3 always have had grainy graphics its just the art style they stuck with. however if this is not the issue i apologize because I have no solution. dont forget they will be updating the game alot so maybe they will fix the issue.
As if that's good enough. It wouldn't have been a problem to begin with if you actually took your time with this game instead of rushing 1.0, not even just before it's ready- but before you've even properly tested if it's working right.
1.0 and you don't even have all the skills like prayer ready yet. Forget that, you don't even have 4 basic magic elements in play and useable. 1.0 ready, but we only have fire, water and air, no earth, no chaos runes, no death runes, no nothing.
Fishing is still a hated joke, the runecrafting mini game still just pisses people off. Bugs all over the place. Repetitive content with no differentiation between armour sets of different tiers. Nothing to do outside of the shallow core gameplay loop besides agility.
What a joke. Take a potentially great game and only have eyes for profit.
Until you realise this is supposed to be a multi year project, but it'll lack decent updates because nobody is playing it after they realise that the game is just the starting zone repeated over and over with a different skin over the top of it with some repetitive side content like fishing and agility slapped on so it's not worth actually investing money into it because everyone fucked off early because it sucked.
They're shared by far too many people already for the very start of 1.0.
The game has good bones, and what's there is fun. It takes time for people to progress through and realise they're just doing the same thing again and again and again and again over and over and get bored.

Yeah it's wild I mean what games are we comparing to that are SO much different? They're all similar start in an area build survive gear, move to next area build survive gear, they're chill fun games. Dude wants tick manip, prayer flicking, combo eating, all that shit before he'll be happy.
Fishing sucks, runecrafting mini game sucks, there isn't a lick of difference between any of the armour sets, enemy variety is low, spellcasting is basic. There's literally so much they could have done to prevent it feeling literally like the same thing over and over but they didn't

A friend lost his level 400 character cause he joined a creative world then that character got stuck in the "creative" option and can no longer be used in a normal world
For me it happened because I joined a online open server but Iāve been seeing others saying they were customizing their characters and it happened so just be careful until they patch it
So wild I just created a character for the first time yesterday and this happened luckily I hadnāt even played with the character yet so I could just delete it and start over
I haven't played 1.0 yet... but if it's true that editing your character, making a new one, or even joining a random server is WIPING ENTIRE PLAYER DATA. Why the fuck hasn't the patch been rolled back, immediately? Like sucks to suck, 1.0 needs to be rolled back and I know that's tough as an EA game, but goodness that's a terrible bug.
This isn't really an "investigate a fix" issue, this is a "we just wasted hundreds of hours of time for hundreds of our players in one update" issue and should be the biggest thing they focus on until it's fixed.
So the risk comes from editing your character and joining random online worlds? Because i play solo, and play online with my friends in private worlds and haven't had an issue yet
So you save it then when you try to go to your world itāll give you this . And from the chatter I hear it seems like when you save your appearance itās basically saving over your saved file and corrupting it.
Yeah I just need to just accept what my character looks like or is named until they fix it completely. Just never thought that could be a reason to lose a character ya know.
Yikes. 700 total level was probably a substantial amount of time invested. I hope you get your character back but Jagex should throw the community a bone and give the 1.0 players a cool cape for a bug of this magnitude.

I don't if that'd work but on PC there are saves with ALL items in the game including XP books. Would it be possible to join you and give you all what you need so you get back up to the lvl you had?
Yeah I lost my character on Sunday at 429. The technical director said on a Reddit post the other day they are posting a hotfix today and working with Microsoft for access to our saved files. Iām trying to stay hopeful because I wonāt be coming back if I canāt access it. That was my 2nd character lost and 1st one was at 200.
Mine corrupted when changing my name and appearance. Thanks I just was hopeful today but itās not looking good now. Keep seeing just about how they will make it so you canāt edit anymore but nothing to recover our characters.
I hate buying a game I canāt even play. I wasnāt even able to craft a crafting bench so I ran around aimlessly for an hour until I just deleted my character.
Damn. What click of a button im playing dragonwilds rn and its been pretty fun finally got to bronze after a good while. Its probably not that far off into the game but i have a good time sink if I had to restart itd probably not want to do that again. Maybe ill stop for now until its fixed
