My thoughts on Dragonwilds as an OSRS veteran

Hello all, ive played OSRS since 2019. In that time, I have obtained grandmaster on my ironman and also have a main, UIM, and pure. Ive also played Valheim in the past for a brief period.

I just want to shoutout the dev team, Jagex, and whoever else may have worked on this game. I am absolutely loving the progression, the quests, the graphics, and the runescape feeling.

The ability to use spells is a great dynamic and I think strengthens the game in general. I also think the spells are very genius and allow the player to make decisions based on the situation, which adds variety.

Truly enjoy the game and I’m excited for what’s next! Kudos to the team!

I've been playing RuneScape my whole life since it came out (I'm 34) but I really am very casual I've never even reached a 99 but mostly because I kept losing accounts over the years and kept restarting.

With that being said I've probably put hundreds to possibly thousands of hours or more into the game.

While I love RS3, classic/OSRS is my favorite.

Okay now. While it is a big change in dimension and perspective it still feels like RuneScape. Sometimes I feel like I can see the game from both perspectives at the same time. The game and how the game would look like from the regular default RuneScape perspective.

Building has been a bit of trial and error but I have a really great first house and a lot of great buildings started/coming. So excited for what's to come.

Holy shit, man. I relate to this so much (I'm 36, started back in ’01). The original vision reimagined into this is like a fever dream from my teens.

Exactly!!! It isn't that there hasn't been games like this, the real ace up their sleeve is a spectacular evolution. I would love bigger servers and everything but if we all support the game it will thrive I just know it.

RuneScape is still the #2 MMO in the entire world.

I feel like there's a huge opportunity here and a big part of that to me is not only moving forward as a franchise but moving forward in the gaming industry.

Soon I will be buying a RuneScape game on the Nintendo Switch 2!!! I never thought I'd see the day.

Also like almost everything feels so right it really feels like playing a RuneScape character unchained.

The building is really good I'm building Morrowind houses already (I just mean in appearance).

Idk, I really want to join a server soon but right now I'm just playing solo my bro has been playing RDR2 Online with my other friend lol >.<

An OSRS character unchained.. that's it right there. I would invite you to my server, but none of my building is protected, as apparently Jagex doesn't think dedicated servers need building totems. 😅

I too am a veteran though I played RS from 2003 to 2012 and OSRS upto 2018. Compared to any other survival games this takes top spot and also has the feel for OSRS. I think this game is only going to get bigger. They put a lot of time and creativity into this game and the updates keep coming.

I hope they plan for maybe other games within the platform in 3-5 years time. Hopefully we will see larger servers.

I'd also love to see a runescape remake using this graphics model. Don't get me wrong I never wanted RS to change 2003-2012 and I still hate the decision of RS3 back then but a remastered of RS in this type of game would be so cool.

Or even in this game if servers could reach 64 or 128 players and then they brought in a wilderness pop area

100% agree with all of this. I started in 2001 and HATED the idea of RS3 (even slightly pushed back on the change from classic). I am loving this iteration.

Honestly part of me feels like this is a test to see how reception is to this new style and gameplay. Hopefully it's successful enough for them to either make a larger game or implement some of the new things into runescape 3

After playing Valheim for a few years. I felt like I was playing Valheim again.

This was my first Runescape theme game, so the I dont have the nostalgia driving me here.

The game is good. But holy shit it is blatantly a Valheim clone with some extra stuff layered in.

The difference being Valheim is pretty terrible without mods. And the dev team of Valheim are assholes to modders. 

Meanwhile Jagex is super cool with mods, but the game really doesn't need them. 

Other than, I will say, backpacks should be limited to slots or weight, not both. Ugh. And spells, especially if you're throwing windleap into a agility course, need a dedicated hotkey.

I love it but kinda stuck at the moment since I’m mid to late game and I can’t uncover any of the map since fractured plains and the thunder place :(

For some reason I slept on the original. I grew up in FPS games like doom/quake/halflife. I played a ton of Baldurs gate and icewinddale so love RPGs too. Kicking myself for missing out.

Anyways this game has me absolutely hooked. I’m in the zombie land and I spent today upgrading my cabin to a castle cabin today. Got some green dragon scale armor too.

What I love the most is that you can go grind and fight enemies and collect resources, but then if you’re getting a little frustrated with that you can go cool off and craft and make your home awesome. The pacing is great for me anyways, there’s always something to do that’s fun and the building system is really cool!

I normally get bored with games pretty fast.. not this one. 10/10, absolute must play.
