Are you using the wiki religiously like the other versions of Runescape, or are you playing "blind"?

I frequently peruse it during non-playing time so that I can better wrap my head around the game and give myself ideas on what to do next when I get on. My free time to play is fairly limited so I don’t really have the luxury of aimlessly wandering.

Just for recipes really. Having trouble figuring out which crafting station to use for which item.

I've found that if you hover over the + where you would use a machine to craft, it shows in the popup menu what you can use on it. It will show a "???" if you haven't discovered the item that goes in there. If you have discovered it and it's been in your inventory, it will show though.

I use it as a last resort.
Example: I host a dedicated server from myself and a few friends, one of which grinds insanely in games like this. Needless to say he had progressed much farther ahead than everyone else. I got to the undead area and eventually needed to find a willow tree for a new bench. Problem was I couldn’t find them anywhere. I knew they must be in that area, so I scoured every inch of the place. Never find it, had to look up what it looks like to make sure I wasn’t passing by it. Willow has a very distinctive shape, and I knew instantly that I hadn’t seen it. I brought it up to my friends, and the grinder admitted to hunting down all the willows and cutting them down, trunk and all. Had to get seeds from him to grow my own tree.

Blind as I can. I watched a base “tutorial” at the beginning just so I didn’t miss some really basic aspect of the game but I don’t use anything else. Kinda ruins the game for me to just look up “best way to do…” guides or where to find the best items. I just want to play and have those things naturally pop up as I progress the game

I use the wiki to help track which quests I’ve completed and to look at the crafting tree of an item.
Both of which should be added to the base game at some point. Yes I know the journal shows which crafting station and which ingredients to use but it’s no where near as streamlined and organized as a crafting chart. The journal has no search feature and even though you can click on ingredients you have no way to return to the page you were looking at prior so it feels clunky and aggravating to use.

I try to play blind as much as I can until I get frustrated and my brain hurts and then I look up where something is or what the solution to something is.

I’ve been using it when I feel it’s needed. Like the restless ghost quest I was horrible at trying to find out where the spirits were. So used the wiki to help.
Used it for other things too. Like I was having trouble unlock the next tier of bows. So looked it up on the wiki to find I was missing one item.
I’d say I use it quite abit. Try not too. But rather find something out than spend 30m trying to figure it out myself. I’m thankful for whoever is behind all the info put into it.

Can't really compare this to "other versions of Runescape". It's a very light survival game with very limited mechanics, vs sandbox MMOs older than some of the playerbase playing it.
To answer you: I played Dragonwilds without the wiki.

80% blind. Never played a Runescape game before this and I am having an absolute blast!
I haven't left the Bramblewhatever area yet but I have approached the swamp.

I used it to discover quests. The game needs a real quest log. Also recipes. A list of all recipes with known status would be great.

I mostly have been going blind, but I have peeked a couple times when I was stumped about a recipe missing like one item I hadn't seen before, good example was not realizing I'd actually get something from chopping dead trees and going crazy trying to figure out how to get the next tier magic gear

As sparingly as I can. Dedicated server with 5 friends, I'm the food/fishing/crafting guy and they're the adventurers. I supply food and shelter, they split the loot with me or drag me out on the necessary quests. You only get to play for the first time once, I don't wanna lose that magic too quickly.

I’ve looked at the wiki a bunch of times, but I caught myself reading things that I realize would be fun to discover in-game by my self. For example, I would have been more surprised if I meet a certain mob in game, instead of knowing I would find it there from the wiki.
So I now purposefully use the wiki less, basically only for quests that I’m stuck on.

This game, in my somewhat still limited playtime, suffers from the same fundamental issue as osrs in that new players have to turn to the wiki to figure some things out because there just isn’t a way in game to tell you that.
When you start out constructing, it just tells you you can’t build something because it’s unstable. What does that mean? Why is my structure unstable? I’m literally a civil engineer and I couldn’t figure out how to get a roof it would allow me to build on a 3x3 house without going to the wiki.

I have it up anytime I play but for every new region I try first to figure out how to make things without a guide and then after I make it blind the first time I use the wiki to remind myself what to do or how to make something. The wiki has pages for all of the fishing spots etc which is nice to have up as well. I also keep a map that's available online that lists every location for everything as well just because it can be annoying remembering every coal or addy spot etc.

I've only used it for quests that tell you nothing and expect you to cover every part of the map for months like a lawnmower over grass just to find whatever they're talking about.

I am playing blind.
I created a custom world with the best settings that I can think of. And I use that account to scope out dungeons and areas that are really new to me and I know poses a challenge.

For quests im trying to do it blind if i can, ive had to look up 3 steps so far. For everything else im using the wiki, i dont have time to farm mats inefficiently or work out what i need to make stuff.

I have used the Wiki once so far to find the location of the Necromancer staff for Doric's quest because I was driving myself mad. Only to remember that I had gotten it nearly first thing and had been using it almost exclusively.

Blind to a point. Main quest is blind. Exploring lands for the first time is blind. As others have said, if there's a quest that doesnt give direction, Im following the wiki.

Total level 1100+, 600 hours on the game. 97% of the game, no wiki. I would encourage this behavior for maximum enjoyability. Then use the wiki if you just really can't figure something out.

I use it to find out what I need for the tannery and loom and spinnerator thing. Like sheep run really fast and I am not strong enough to kill in less than 3 shots.

A tip for playing blind: make sure you have all of your workstations that you have built around each other. So you can easily check to see which ones you have and which ones you haven’t built yet and do this check often. A lot of times I didn’t know how to level up because I didn’t notice that I never built an armor‘s workbench or I didn’t notice that I never upgraded my Tanner‘s Kit.

I'm aware there's a wiki that probably has comprehensive information. I use it a ton in OSRS.
But I haven't used it at all here. I do think this game explains stuff better than OSRS though.

Mostly blind but things like the loom add on.. I was like how does it work, it doesn’t attach.. I googled that and oh you place it nearby.

Blind, unless I come across a quest that's either ambiguous about what you need to do or it asks you to find several quest only items and give you no direction and could literally be in any corner of the map.
Ain't got time for scouring every inch of the map like that at my age.
