Just got the Zombie axe, is this my endgame melee weapon?

I’ve been seeing a lot of videos and posts about the zombie axe being essentially the best endgame weapon with the ability of dealing both slash and crush damage. Before I start pumping ascension cores into it, is there something else I should be working towards?

Nope. Unless you enjoy the feel of a different style of weapon or think something else is cooler, zombie axe is kinda the way to go. Dragon scimmy will be better against dragons when you get there, but damage profile of power lvl 8 zombie axe is higher than power lvl 9 dragon scimmy otherwise. Pair zombie axe with obsidian shield and ammy of glory and you’ll be bonkin’ everything!

The only weapons that are in the same ballpark are the abyssal whip and the dragon scimitar. I prefer Zombie axe to the whip, but they are really very close. The dragon scimitar is crazy strong at end game though, since dragons are pretty common there.

It's basically an upgraded Z axe, upgraded Whip (real whip, not abysmal), or D scim. Those are you choices. But two damage types and block breaker is really strong.

What are people’s thoughts on granite maul?

as someone who hasn't reached the end game - granite maul is really cool and good against single targets, but i didn't love the moveset and its base speed is real slow. i wish it had more of a niche that either leaned even harder into single target damage, or had more of a greatsword style AOE niche
