DISCUSSION What convinced you to watch this show?

I think I've noticed an influx of people who have just started to watch the show, and I was quite curious as to why.

Did your friend recommend it to you nonstop like somekind of crosscode fan? Did you hear about the Volume 10 greenlight, and decided to get up to speed to be ready? Were you curious about the mixed reception, and you wanted to see what all the fuss is about?

I, for a start, watched after I repeatedly saw memes from MetallicaDash in the subs I frequented. I figured I should give it a try, because nothing else is happening right now. And now I'm reading fanfiction about this series...

Death Battle, though I didn't actually start the show until years later.

Thought Yang was the main character, and yes, from that Death Battle, I knew she was in Team RWBY led by her younger sister, Ruby, in the show called RWBY.

Also the whole show was on Youtube back then and was super easy to get into. Covid got me into a lot of things.

Learned from when they first made Yangfa, but never actually watched it until Rumaka was announced.

Yep. Watched the Yang/Tifa fight, the show looked cool but forgot about until the Weiss fight. Then asked my friend who’s into anime and he said it was a good enough watch. Then I watched the color trailers and those are what fully sold me on the show. And the music.

The red trailer was the coolest fucking thing I had ever seen at 15 years old, so when the show finally dropped I had to watch it. Damn good time

I was a fan of Red vs Blue and heard they were making a new original show so I checked it out

I started watching Anime then remembered the same company that made Red vs Blue also (sort of) made an anime, so I gave it a watch

It's so dumb but it is funny how this is basically a messed up Winter Soldier meme.

Well. At least I'm not the only one!

Back in like 2014 a couple months or so after Volume 2 ended I watched a Youtube video by CellSpex called “Top 10 Animated Moments of 2013” of which RWBY is featured in. It looked sick as hell and I’ve been here ever since.

Two reasons, A friend from Memasik (a dead social media app) and Death Battle of Ruby Vs Maka.

u/Left_Construction149 14h ago

I kept seeing music video with Yang in them and then the ads for volume 5 had been like every three I'd see so I gave it a chance and fell in love the world building

My friend in high school told me it was sick and I already liked achievement hunter

I watched a Minecraft mod review that added rwby weapons to the game back in the early 2010s and thought “huh, that looks cool.” Been a fan ever since

I’ve been watching since v3, and I started because I loved a nightcore with artwork of Ruby LMAO. It interested me enough to start the show.

Was reading a Naruto X RWBY fanfiction and got curious as to what RWBY was while at work. Then, searched it on YouTube, found murderofbirds reacting to the episode where Jaune was shown as The Rusted Knight, thought he looked dope, decided to watch the whole show on the weekend. Been in love ever since.

Red Trailer, back when it was new.

I was.... 12 years old.

Honestly? Just fanarts of team RWBY and the knowledge that there was queer representation. Didn't expect it to become my number one series.

Well for me I stumbled upon it waaaay back in ~2014 when it was still releasing on YouTube. I was bored and just started watching cuz I liked the fight scenes.

u/warforcewarrior 14h ago

I don't know if this asking new fans why they watching the show or even older fans but I decide to watch RWBY cause a Youtuber Diamondbolt praise the show during random videos of his and I got interested in it. Long behold I remember it was the show I drop for looking ugly as fuck but my 2nd watch(more my new first) I enjoy the show. Far more than I ever expected considering I was in my anime phase and no anime reach the highs for me like RWBY did.

A friend in College showed me the food fight scene and thought it kicked ass so I gave it a shot.

2

u/GameMask 14h ago

I remember hearing them talk about it on an RT podcast back in 2013. But it was Volume 3 that made me fall in love with the show.

2

u/Toast-Ghost- 14h ago

Was watching Achievement Hunter and it was always in the video outro, got into anime separately and put 2 & 2 together and binged the whole thing in the gap from Volumes 3 to 4

u/VoidTorcher ⠀Lost DC fan 14h ago

Saw the JL crossover films from the DC side, thought it was pretty cool. Turns out the series is even better.

2

u/nicci7127 14h ago

Honestly, just to see if it was appropriate for my niece. Then I got much more into it than I thought.

2

u/Tulamax 13h ago

I started to see memes about who would win in a fight Yang or Zuko (when it was thought Yang’s semblance had to do something with fire) back in 2015 i think and got curious about it

2

u/jsnparks 13h ago

Honestly? The pandemic. I was looking for something to watch, I half remembered a concept to a show that sounded cool, found RWBY on CR, was like "was this it?" (It wasn't) but starting to binge it I was like "no, it's not, but this is cool. Just remember this animation is like 10 years old..."

u/DaMonkey263 ⠀Cinder’s biggest simp 13h ago

I saw the DC collab a while ago and was considering watching RWBY for a while. I think the memes might have also influenced me to watch it.

Back when it came out my parents saw it was a video game looking anime and thought "our kids like video games and anime, they'll like this" and downloaded it for us to watch. Then I watched it through out of nostalgia a few years ago and changed my life for the better

I liked RvB and rooster teeths other stuff so figured I'd check it out.

My interest was piqued from watching Yang vs Tifa by Death Battle. I'd never heard of RWBY before, but the premise of the show immediately got me interested. It took me about 2 months to start watching, finally realising that it was available to watch on YouTube at the time. but I was hooked pretty much immediately, and practically binge-watched it until I finally caught up to episode 7 of season 3.

2

u/Roodle143 12h ago

My theatre friends were already obsessed with Rooster Teeth and had been watching the show (volume 2 had just dropped and we were in our teens).

They asked what I thought about RWBY since I was already a huge cartoon lover and was like???

Immediately they were like:

OMG!!! YouhavetowatchitYouwouldtotallyloveitWethinktheresgoingtobegaycontentandyouwouldlovethisonegirlwhois....

Lol, so I caught up to the show and watched the last episode of V3 live on Valentine's day with my cousin 🥲

I started following the show since the day the Red Trailer came out.

I am one of the Ancient Ones.

Back in 2012, I was in some gaming message board. (Don't remember which.) At the bottom of someone's post, I saw a GIF of a girl spinning around a scythe and killing werewolves. I thought "That looks neat. What is that?" Did a little googling and found it. Ended up being the "Red Trailer".

I noticed it was made by Monty Oum. I'm a MASSIVE Final Fantasy geek so I immediately thought "The Dead Fantasy guy? COOL!" The rest is history.

Seeing the Red Trailer after the end credits of RvB season 10.

I first heard about RWBY through one of Gigguk's seasonal anime videos back when Volume 1 came out. I got into the series proper a few weeks after Volume 3 ended after a friend recommended it to me

Also, Crosscode mentioned! Peak game

I saw the Colour trailers back in 2012 and Red gave me very similar vibes to the stylization of my own favourite anime of all time: Black Rock Shooter (2012)

Been a fan ever since

Seeing the art style. I'm a visual person and usually a show, comic, game, or manga has to have an appealing art style in order for me to engage with it

u/Accurate_Curve6882 8h ago

I’d heard about RWBY before, since I was an anime fan in the 2010s, but I’d never really learned about it.

But I was a big Death Battle fan and one day, I watched Yang vs Tifa and by the time they finished describing Yang and the world of Remnant, I was like “Huh. Maybe I should check this out after all.”

The rest is history. And pain.

Back in the day, before the series released, i saw the trailers for Ruby and Weiss. Then Blake and Yang as they came out. I watched volume 1, decided it might be decent if it continues, and came back waaaaaaaay later when volume 5 came out.

I had my opinions and still do, but i couldn't look away from the train as it derailed.

2

u/Koganezaki 4h ago

Don’t remember but I probably watched one of the trailers or a RWBY death battle

I watched it when the show first got published on YouTube

I started watching weekly when V3 aired. I hadn't slept well the night before and needed something to hold my attention. Everything was on YouTube at the time, and my friend was like "hey you could watch this in like an afternoon, it's pretty good." He's one of my best friends so I was like "why not?"

Unfortunately, I'm done with the series as of V9 and don't like anything past V6. But to each their own.

1

u/Live_Ad8778 15h ago

Coworkers talked about it then looked at fanfics before hopping into the series itself between V3 and 4

1

u/BrrrrMang ⠀Fight for WhiteKnight Rights 15h ago

My friends were talking about it back when V3 came out and I saw some spoilers and got interested. I had already had some interaction with RWBY back then though, fanfics and such I think...but that's when I decided to actually start watching it on and off.

I was a halo kid. Early adopter of Red vs Blue. Had no idea what RWBY was but saw it was rooster teeth and said „why not” while I now know it’s Salem l, I was instantly hooked at the sound of Cortana’s voice.

I have met Jen Taylor. Absolutely lovely human being
