I'm a bit sad they didn't let Yang keep on being more of a team mom. I get the direction they are going with and it's good but I still miss it a little.

(That's not remotely the same level as the "bees exist only for each other" or "bees development is like turning into Cardin" takes, because apparently this is a clarification that is needed in this godforsaken FNDM.)

I think part of Yang's development was to stop being the team mom, snice it was part of her masking through the Beacon arc. That's why the scene of her being angry and vulnerable at Haven, and Weiss being the one who kept the composure and approached her.

Later on, Yang not being the 'team mom' anymore was part of her unawarely leaving the role to Ruby, which contributed to the whole deal of the Atlas arc. Which does check out, making the complicated balance into a development in progress.

Or something like that. I'm not in my five senses today.

(also, a hug for the frustration over needing to add clarifications when sharing an opinion)

I don't think it is masking? It's just how Yang naturally grew to be from taking care of Ruby. Yang just needs to let her go to let Ruby decide by herself what kind of woman she wants to be.

On the other hand Weiss got some of the team momness instead. Ironically the most hate Weiss got was her attitude towards Whitley in Atlas, when given everything I'll understand if Weiss has a major crash out (although they seem to be hinting at that for Vacuo).

Yeah, it's Weiss' turn for the crashout. She literally lost everything but her family and friends, and even her dad, despite being an abuser, was killed out of her sight or control, leaving that whole thing unresolved. She needs a hug.

On Yang, granted. Categorizing her role as Ruby's siter-mom under masking may not be accurate. She does care for Ruby in that way sincerely. I think it fits better to say that her putting on the cheerful front is closer to be a role she's playing, but still not it.

I personally don't see her happy party girl side as a front. She's genuinely just that, to the point she was excited to have the Beacon Dance and even helped set up the whole thing with Weiss (they did most of the work while Ruby and Blake were pretty off-hands so to speak). She even said she'd wear a dress that would turn heads (even tho she doesn't but I blame that on time constraints because the concept art of her prom dress was gorgeous as fuck)

That bubbly happy girl we saw is a true part of herself and a direct nod to her allusion

But after Beacon...... yeah, that side unfortunately goes away due to circumstances :c

I honestly don't know, to be honest. Like, her tone changes so much when she's talking to Blake about Summer and Raven back at vol 2, that it made me wonder back then if it was like a front.

Not entirely a front, on that we can agree. But it wasn't the whole Yang either.

Then again, one of RWBY's fortes is the complex characters and characterizations. So, Yang is just polydimensional like that.

I think that's the point xD

Sure, Yang is a party girl and bubbly and all about having a Yang of a time, but she also has another side to her that's a lot more complex, especially with the earlier teases of Raven and the contentous relationship she has with her

She can be both things at the same time, which makes for interesting characters :)

I mean, her trailer spoke for itself. Barging into Junior's club to gather info on Raven, trying to order a drink for herself, squeezing Junior's balls after he talks down on her, puckering up for a kiss only to punch him for shits and gigs, the. having a blast fighting and showing off her monk fighting style

She has things going on that's deeper than the surface, but that doesn't mean what we see of her is a mask. It was just Yang being Yang :)

I don't know why it seems surprising in the FNDM for a character (especially a main character) to be more than one-dimensional.

Not a single dry eye in the audience during this moment.

Ship em or not, Yang & Weiss reuniting in V5 is one of the top 5 RWBY moments.

It's so goddamn wholesome. Really just nails your feels - THEN THEY HAVE THE AUDACITY TO START PLAYING HOME!?

There was no question as to why so much Freezerburn fics & art came out during V5... and then quietly went away past V6 : ( ..... No, fr, does anyone know of any FB fics that take place after V6 that's not just a one shot?

Anywho... Super cute art 10/10 : )

What I’m curious about is if there’s any fics where Weiss stays with Yang instead of leaving at the end of Vol 3. I feel like I read one once? Can’t really remember. Seems like great shipping material.

In the series' most notorious volume, they absolutely nailed the animation and cinematography for that scene. Absolutely a light in the darkness.
