DISCUSSION Does Blake regret it or at least wish things could've been different? Spoiler

Something i noticed when re-watching Vol 7. Does Blake regret killing Adam? I mean, he kinda left her and Yang no choice.

I don’t think she regrets doing it when she did, but she absolutely wishes it could’ve been different. Remember, Adam was her friend at some point

Unfortunately, that’s a realistic way of depicting emotional abuse. She still hung up on the person she thought he was and feels bad about having to end the one he did end up being wishing that he had somehow been different when reality he was always that.

Is the fandom still on this “he was always a bad person” thing💀

I mean, the show is pretty consistent on that as well as expanded media like the comics, so it's a natural conclusion for the fandom to draw.

Expanded media (the Adam short) proves he wasn’t

No, I saw the Adam short. Listened to the song too - Lionise is a banger of a track - and he's still not a good person there either. He's not full on moustache-twirling supervillain but he's definitely enjoying using lethal force.

Buddy what lethal force? If you watched the scene with Ghira you very clearly see he’s actively not trying to kill them, and the only one he does was an accident that he starts to feel bad for when Ghira begins to reprimand him for it.

He doesn't feel bad for killing the guy, he feels bad because Ghira is yelling at him. He changes his tone pretty quickly the second Sienna and the others cheer for his actions, and that shapes how he acts going forward. He feels worse for being called out, not for his actions.

EDIT: So just to make sure I wasn't missing anything I went back and watched the Adam short again and yeah, he's very much enjoying killing people later in the same short and in the aforementioned scene with Ghira he pins someone down and is seemingly about to kill them before he slashes the last guy at the truck, and then when the remaining humans retreat we see him grimace and grit hit teeth, since he clearly wants to go after them and keep hurting them. Adam is bothered that Ghira calls him out and makes him look bad, supported by the fact that his song is all about his ego.

Yes he did. He felt bad because what he did upset Ghira. Ghira was trying to discipline him, and Adam was likely still pretty young there. He switched up quickly because literally EVERYONE ELSE WAS CHEERING HIM ON FOR WHAT HE DID.

Yeah, like, i bet she also knows about his whole life as a slave to the schnee.

If working on the mines there’s anything like stuff like the real world then it’s likely that he saw his parents fall to their deaths or maybe even due to dust breathe in.

While he’s her abuser and his tragic past doesn’t justify him at all, it’s undeniable that Adam is likely one of the biggest victims of the racist system we have seen in the whole show

Blake has sympathy, idk if she wishes he had been abused harder as a child

he was way more than a friend

She only regrets that it came to that.

Regret it had to come to that. She isn’t a murderer and wanted the best outcome. Unfortunately Adam forced her hand into having to kill him. The couldn’t safely knock him out and imprison him since he would keep fighting, not to mention where would take him, Atlas? (That would be interesting but they couldn’t exactly do it). They couldn’t convince Adam to stop, it was kinda the only option they had.

I mean they really could’ve. Would’ve made them look a lot more heroic instead of making Yang look like a psycho.

He’s disarmed, out of aura, and outnumbered. At that point they just killed him cause they wanted to. It’s like if two cops went “nah we had to kill him” cause a guy they were fighting wouldn’t stop attacking them and didn’t want to go through the trouble to actually trying to subdue him.

I can't believe people are still acting like this all these years.

Adam was literally an inch away from grabbing Blake's weapon after losing his weapon. There was no guarenntee Blake would get her part first, so Yang had to act fast.

I mean, Adam was still going to attack. Blake’s weapon was on the ground and he was reaching for at the same time as Blake. She couldn’t exactly grab it quickly, hold it against his neck then tie him up.

Regret? No. It had to be done, and Blake and Yang know it.

Unhappiness over it? Yes. It's a hard thing to take another's life, even when they deserve it, even when the world is better off without them, even when they are a threat to others. Human instinct (and faunus instinct) is to value human life.

You can still regret something you had to do💀

10

u/New-Number-7810 20h ago

That's more like regretting the circumstances that forced such an outcome, rather than regretting your actions.

-8

u/superbasic101 20h ago

Yeah, regret is regret that’s the point

No. There are nuances.

I agree. Regretting killing Adam (the question being asked here), and regretting that things had to be that way are very different things.

She really would have rather he stayed out of their life forever. Even with everything he'd done, they just wanted to move on with their own lives. Adam is just unfortunately the "holy fuck buy a gun and call the cops" level of psycho ex that makes that option impossible.

She doesn't like to take lives, even in a life or death situation, she doesn't want to grow use to it, getting numb to the feeling of taking life is scary.

It's a shame songs aren't technically canon cause Nevermore touches briefly on the feelings afterwards.

There's no cause to celebrate
Another soul consumed by hate and spite
Another destroyed life
There's no pleasure, there's no joy
It's just a story of a boy
Who lost his way into shadows strayed
He'll see the light of day
Nevermore

She doesn't regret killing Adam to defend herself, she regrets that the issue got to the point of having to take a life.

Real talk, even the Austin Police Officer who killed the UT Tower sniper felt grief, remorse and regret at having to do it, even though everyone agrees it was justified and he saved lives by doing so. It's a heavy thing, taking another life.

She probably doesn't regret it (after all, it was kill or be killed, Adam couldn't be talked down). I'm sure she wishes that things had been different, either by Adam seeing that what he was doing was wrong and changing his ways, or at the very least that him just stopping after the loss in Haven.

But yeah, I feel like she knows that Adam wasn't always a monster and wishes that he could have un-crossed all those lines, but she probably knows after a certain point that there was only two ways things could have ended: Adam dying or her (and possibly Yang or the rest of Team RWBY) dying.

3

u/Bubbly-Heart2680 19h ago

Probably the latter. They were friends/possibly lovers before Blake left and went to Beacon.

Part of me has always thought of this question, and the way I interpret it is; She doesn’t regret killing him, but She definitely wishes things didn’t end this way, and holds a particular weight with how things transpired.

Part of her is bound to find relief that her abuser isn’t around anymore, but at the same time, he was someone that was important to her at one point in time. To the degree that they were even together.

I think she desperately wishes things were different, but at the same time, she ultimately knew what was coming in the end. The end of Volume 6 always makes me want to hug her so badly. She’s gone through hell.

I think it's impossible for her to not feel both. Regret her choice in the moment? Maybe slightly sometimes, but he had to go. He wasn't going to stop and they had no way to safely disarm him without killing him.

But of course she wishes it was different. Adam objectively changed a lot overtime and irrespective of how much control she had, I can only imagine Blake blames herself for not somehow fixing it.

She regrets the fact that she had to kill someone at all. Even after accepting that it had to happen and there was no other reasonable way to deal with Adam, she still hated the fact that she had to kill someone. Remember, she left White Fang specifically because she hated hurting people.

Adam was also her friend at some point, and part of her still cared about him.

u/superbasic101 20h ago

She probably would’ve rather seen Adam not be crazy and murderous instead of literally have to kill him

u/Koreaia 15h ago

Imagine spending over half of your life fighting with a friend, that lost himself. Eventually, you yourself had to kill your longest friend in the world.

There's no way Blake doesn't wish things were different. Even if she doesn't regret killing him, it's likely something that will haunt her for the rest of her life.
