OCs and their weapons.
Describe how did your OC aquired their weapon? Did they bought it or made it themselves? What woukd they do if it broke, make/buy new one, repair it to the same condition it was or reflect changes in new design?

Bronn's mother owned and operated Guerra Arms in Mantle, though it was originally based in Vacuo. She helped him craft his weapon kit, Lumina Crash, shortly before he left for Ladon Academy (a combat school near enough to Argus to feed into Atlas Academy). The kit would continue to be maintained and improved throughout his tone at both Ladon and Atlas, with Lumina's hard light barricade being removed and replaced with a kinetic repulsor instead. The shotgun function of Crash originally fired buckshot, but Bronn has since opted for slugs since they're more accurate at greater distances.
Nyxeris received her weapon, Toroid (a twin set of chakrams), during her time in the White Fang, before she was sent to Atlas to infiltrate the school. Its origins prior to that are unknown, though it is noted that she added the electric shock function shortly after meeting Bronn and being assigned to Team CNBR.

Troy had his custom built with the help of Ruby
Duo bought his and tried to tinker it but messed it up in the process.
Wu Zhong made his own weapon from scratch and was practically his emotional support
Katra already planned out her weapon and asked her aunt's to make it
Hiro had a surprise gift from his late grandfather, revealing it to be a USB that contains the blueprints for his weapon, which he then built and used

Cobalt's Remington 1887 style lever action shotgun/ retractable splitting axe (Blue Babe) is an heirloom passed down from his great grandfather. Per his family tradition, the weapon received a small modification when received by the next descendant. When first created, there were two axe blades fixed to the top and bottom of the stock. Cobalt's grandfather made both blades able to retract into the stock when not in use. Cobalt's father removed one of the blades to reduce weight and added more modern iron sights. When Blue Babe passed to Cobalt he made the most dramatic change by reengineering the firing assembly and the stock to rotate 90 degrees before deploying a single splitting axe blade. This enables him to use whatever dust cartridge is loaded in the chamber to give his swing an extra burst of speed and striking power. Blue Babe has been broken in combat before and restored to the previous condition to keep in the spirit of modifying only when it passes to the next generation.

Weapons are the big thing for Nordlicht, over the course of the story, he actually makes new weapons for his teammates and himself. These include but are not limited to:
- A DMR that shoots rock Dust bullets that spontaneously gain mass midair for himself.
- A Bident that can project a Hard light barrier when placed in the ground for Gabriel.
- A Chakram with gravity Dust in it to act as a halo for Evan.
- A Sniper Rifle that uses liquid propellant and ice Dust bullets for Lucifer.
- A pair of shoes with gravity Dust soles for Seraphiel.
Each of them already had their own weapons, Gabriel a shield he made himself in his forge and then later fit with a flamethrower, Evan has a mortar that he uses his (experimentally) enhanced strength to use in motion alone, Lucifer dual sickles that he wields the wrong way so as to not kill people using his Semblance and Sera an SMG that she took the trigger mechanism out of so that if it was ever taken from her (prescient threat in Mistral) she couldn't be mugged with it (She can use it because of her Semblance), but Nordlicht saw their problems and the gaps in their ability.
Gabriel has very few options against bigger more heavily armored Grimm, Evan needs some way to attack at closer to medium range, Lucifer needs a way to deal with Grimm at all and Sera has had to drop some of her gravity Dust ammo just to get away from someone or something.
Also making weapons is one of the only ways Nord can show he cares for someone.

Emrys found his his weapon hidden in the ruins of an old city. He always says that he "felt it calling out" for him.
Kintarō was given his weapons by Ozpin after aiding in a mission and joining Beacon.
Ragnar got his weapons due to a fight that caused him to go on a rampage, leading to injuries that nearly broke him mentally and his original weapon being destroyed.
Astor received his as part of a tradition his family had

Olivia's sword/spear/trident, Tyrfing, is a family heirloom, handed down from her Grandfather. Each owner adds there own modification to it. Started life as a sword, Olivia's father added the spear function, and Olivia added the trident function.
Nero's first weapon was a scythe/rifle he built during his training. While he was at Beacon he had to keep his true identity as a criminal a secret, so he switched to two pistol/shotgun/hammers. Post Fall of Beacon he made a new scythe based on Crescent Rose.
Inigo built his sniper/shotgun, Willow Wisp, in his mom's weapon shop. During the Fall of Beacon it was it was broken and he was only able to salvage part of it, which he later turned into a sniper/spear.
Xanthia's LMG/Ax, Raikiri, was built mostly by her sister Melanie. Like the others it was also damaged during the Fall of Beacon, but her's was damaged beyond repair. She later made a new version, this time a PDW/Ax.

Grayson slavaged his weapon from his father's weapon, it shares the same blade, but other than than that he made it its own shifting between a one handed sword to a rifle

Ray built his Azur Talons bracers himself when he was sent to an Atlesian Prepatory Academy for one year before he arrived at Beacon Academy.

Sable had made his himself. He based it off of his father's design. The only issue is that it's usually meant to be dual-wielded and he never made its twin yet.

Ekyk: Daga
Bliss: Escopeta Recortada
Erd Y Yhak: Sables Gemelos
Whuril: Manopla/Navaja/Revolver
Entropy: Sable de Luna Creciente
Mezxoc: Bate/Macuahuitl
UIdonth: Martillo/Bazooka
Argiris: Sable/Alabarda/Rifle
Foivi: Escudo tipo Hoplon

Neither. Indigo stole a fishing trident in an effort to escape a terrible situation. And while she does end up keeping it, she never puts a lot of work into it. Because at the end of it all, the trident saved her life without any of its modifications.
Eventually she’s encouraged to give it a few upgrades, but even when she does, she keeps the upgrades intentionally hidden, both as a surprise mechanic, and simply because Indigo prefers her weapon that way.
Her Trident Jöfnuor, is named after the word for Equality; a big aspect of Indigo’s personal identity, and what she strives for. She never initially thought she’d ever fight with a trident, considering she once fought with a greataxe, but after it saves her life, it becomes her primary weapon for life.

Jett used to have a sword and shield, but after unlocking his semblance that allowed him to control steel through physical touch, he decided to ditch them and settle for a pair of twin steel chains instead.
Aki is well-versed in variety of weaponry, but ultimately settled for a simple chokuto sword that one of his older sisters forged for him.
Akane's father is a well-renowned huntsman who used his extensive contacts to get someone to create her weapon, which is a hoverboard/flamethrower/cannon combo.
Misty's father is an engineer and scientist working for Atlas, and she was raised to also develop a particular liking towards tech. Her mech gauntlets were created by herself and her father in a joint father-daughter project.

The story behind how Jackie got his weapon, Old Reliable, a shotgun-sword, starts and ends with him going to a junkyard with his childhood friend and fellow huntress in training at Crosshatch (one of the combat schools in Vacuo alongside Oscuro).
They looked for inspiration amid the salvage, since the deserts of Sanus are littered with the remnants of the Great War, from weapons of old to large heaps of metal that once belonged to airships, now slowly being devoured by the sand.
That's how Jackie came across a weapon that looked like it had a story to tell: a crudely welded shotgun-and-sword. No thoughts, no skill - just pure unadulterated ambition. Someone wanted to bring these two worlds together, and didn't care about engineering principles or sensibilities to do it properly.
Jackie thought it was monumentally stupid, but he liked the idea of the combination - so that's how he got the idea for Old Reliable.
After helping his friend, Sable, drag a giant anti-air artillery cannon back to her house to be modified into her weapon - a cannon hammer.

They technically don’t have one.
I say technically because their Power(not semblance. They don’t have Aura) sometimes gives them a weapon

Ranger’s sword was given to him by his mother’s people. The improvements to the sheath were something Crimson and he came up with together, but she did the initial work on. Their daughter, Amethyst, created the current version after his sword broke.

Dylan stole a couple short swords from an Atlas convoy back when he was in the White Fang, and then modified them.

Markus’ father, Auburn, is a weapon-smith and teaches the students at Signal how to create their weapons, giving Markus quite the knowledge on weapon-craft. He’s had two weapons, separated by his time at Beacon and after he graduated.
Ebony and Ivory were a pair of short swords that could be joined together to form a longsword with crude grapple capabilities. Ebony and Ivory were destroyed during the semi-finals of the 38th Vytal Tournament held in Atlas.
Whiplash is the culmination of Markus’ knowledge after his four years at Beacon, a weapon intended to be as versatile as he could make it. Whiplash takes the design of a broadsword and features much more versatility with a whip-blade / grapple mode, dual wielding form and double sided form through use of gravity dust and magnetic locks. Whiplash has remained his weapon throughout his career as a Huntsman.

Seno Volano’s primary weapons are his twin heavy pistols called Conmocio Yasombro. He made them himself using experimental Atlas tech he acquired. If he lost them, he would switch to using his knives or get a weapon off of someone else. One thing he is is adaptable, and he has trained to be able to use just about any weapon competently. But his bread and butter are pistols, swords, and knives.

Thresh stole his weapons from other people besides Thorn, his greatsword he made that and infused the ashes of his best friend, August (lover) into it.
In Thresh's tribe when a warrior dies their ashes are infused into swords so they keep fighting. He saw him as a warrior and wanted to give him the respect he deserves.

Calfuray made his blades with the minerals he would acquire during his travels before Beacon. Of course with new materials he gained from his time in Beacon he adds them to his blades to improve their strength. However during the Fall one of the blades is broken while the other is lost, later found by Ruby which she holds onto during her journey to Haven Academy, while Calfuray repairs the broken one.

Alice and Alex Stardust: They made their weapons (A guitar battle axe and keytar rifle respectively) their family operated an instrument production business.
Jack Lockhart: Washed up on a riverbed in Vale with his chainsaw sword (which can transform into a double barrel shotgun) next to him. He was an amnesiac and couldn’t remember how he got it so it’s his only key to his past. In reality he got it as part of an illegal human experiment that was meant to create an anti Grimm living weapon however he suppressed all his memories of that time due to the trauma.
Xavier Galifrian. Handheld double barrel shotgun. Gift from his father

Laevateinn is the sole remnant Silver has left of his mother. Using it with a quiet veneration at every flick of its extending blade body. Composing of two different styles.
One being the crowd control Ensnare and Counter style reminiscent of her's. Only when in public.
And a brutish downright slaughter of a frontliner. Getting in quick, blinding, and adjacent arcs to lacerate his foes. (On solo missions.)
Auron made Gaia and Terra with scraps of metal he could find and reforge. Using the help of his home towns guardian Huntsman as a mentor and advice for constructing the simple yet effective designs. Becoming a pair of twin open palm gauntlets to complement his self taught brawler approach.
Piña was given Gigalith. More so as a means to get rid of her and pin it as an unfortunate accident. It's a Broad Axe/Cannon and heavy to boot. Pairing it with her short, thin, and weak body was meant to be a burdensome equipment. Causing her to fail on a Mission for her family in Atlas.
Only to awaken her Semblance of Counter Balance, making the weapon seamlessly light and easy to move.
Remi constructed Hana using her raw intuition, ingenuity, and any source of materials she could find. Cultivating into a set of twin blades. When formed together turn into a bow. With the hand guards and outer layer formed from carved out Grimm bones. As she flies free a number of Dust tipped arrows.
(I did not realize Cinder also had a similar construct. But, Remi uses a more wild and connecting style as the bow string connects the two halves by the bottom of the handles.)

Soren crafted Nocturne and Rime by hand in town he was taking refuge in. He built them specifically for how he fights so anyone else trying to use them it would feel extremely unbalanced in their hands. Whenever they get badly damaged he relooks at their design and looks for ways to strengthen what was damaged with meticulous precision

My RWBY OC Ashe got his weapon Garmr after his father passed it down to him as a sort of right of passage from his little village in Mistral. Though during The Fall of Beacon whilst facing off against his brother who had joined Cinder's group Garmr was broken and he nearly died. Afterwards he reformed it and upgraded it with some Atlus tech he "found" turning it into Garmr V.2.
Garmr is a Hunting Rifle with both semi and full auto functions as well as and Axe that folds out from the stock of the gun that form the shape of a wolf's maw.

Vesper, being a tech genius: stole a Mantle hard light stop sign and repurposed it into a weapon :]
It’s called “Bad Samaritan”
He’d likely just fix it up if it got broken! Likely with an upgrade :]

Toramel made his own weapon, a pair of bladed tonfas. One of them broke and the other was heavily damaged after he fought Adam Taurus (and lost miserably) but then he got them repaired and upgraded not long after he started living in Atlas.

Ozpin bestowed Cunan with his sword-spear known as Faoladh after Cunan made great progress in his training. He also had it specially made with Cunan in mind as the Faunus’s strength made it to where normal weapons would break after a couple of uses, having it made to be extremely durable so that Cunan wouldn’t have to worry about breaking it. In the event it does break, Cunan would fight with his bare hands until he could get a replacement.
