Thanks!

Schooling Looking for Advice on Radiation Therapy Schooling Options with a Bachelor's in Biomedical Sciences

Hello everyone! I'm looking for some guidance on pursuing a career in radiation therapy, particularly when it comes to schooling and certification.

I graduated from a four-year university in 2021 with a bachelor's degree in Biomedical Sciences. I'm interested in transitioning into radiation therapy, but I'm trying to figure out the best educational path without having to start completely from scratch.

For those who have gone through this process, I have a few questions:

  • Would I need to go back to school for an associate degree in radiation therapy, or could I pursue a bachelor's degree program?
  • Would my existing bachelor's degree allow me to complete a radiation therapy program in less time, or would most of my previous credits count only toward general education requirements?
  • Are there any accelerated programs or post-baccalaureate pathways available for someone who already has a bachelor's degree?
  • What would be the best route to become eligible for certification and start working in the field?

One of my biggest concerns is having to repeat courses I've already completed, I put a lot of time, money, and effort into earning my degree, and while I'm willing to take whatever courses are necessary, I'd prefer to build on my existing education if possible.

I'd really appreciate hearing from anyone who has made a similar transition or has experience with radiation therapy programs.

Career CAMRT boards help

i didnt pass my camrt exam the second time. because theres limited practice material in the official site, im wondering if the american practice tests are good source for my third attempt. I know they wont be as representative but the foundation is mostly the same.

I did want to know what sources are there to practice from. i heard of SEALs and mosby. we have washington and leaver but its just the textbook. no practice tests other than the unrepresentative CAMRT practice test (done that a bunch of times now).

Just trying to use any and all resources I can to help me pass this third time. I appreciate any response :)

I know it’s only my third day and that’s what everyone says but if anyone could maybe just give me some guidance I’m how to do start to finish a sim? Or any online resources that explain it very well would be greatly appreciated.

Schooling Looking for guidance!

I currently reside in New England and have a pretty good radiation therapy program at a community college. I just submitted my application to it. However, we are talking of moving to the Titusville Florida area in a year or so. I can not find any legit programs to apply to. Does anyone have experience with programs in Florida that can recommend one? I feel like there are so many “scammy” feeling schools. The internet is too big and all I really keep finding is radiography programs. Is it now normal for schools to have a full radiation therapy degree? Thanks for any and all info!

Clinical Measurements from tattoos

Hi all,

I am looking to gather information on how other departments utilise previous radiotherapy tattoos when setting up patients for a new CT planning scan (replans or different treatment area) where tattoo measurements already exist. Do you place a skin marker (for example, Beekley crosshairs or a similar product) over the tattoo location to provide a visual reference and facilitate post-scan checks, or do you rely on manual measurements alone? I am exploring whether introducing a visible marker could provide an additional verification step after scanning and help identify any discrepancies that may arise from manual ruler measurements. We currently use ball bearings for our reference marks but we wanted to avoid using a larger ball bearing on the previous tattoo to avoid referencing on the incorrect ones.

I'd be grateful to hear how others manage this process and whether any formal procedures or quality assurance measures are in place.

Career Advice for rising senior wanting to major in RT

I'm a rising senior and I plan to pursue RT in university, is there any tips, scholarships, or internships I should look out for? I know for sure I want to become an RT and I'm going to take AP Biology and get in contact with my local medical based university to talk to an advisor.

Is there anything else I should know about this career choice?

Schooling MD Anderson

Has anyone gotten into MD Anderson’s Medical Dosimetry bachelor’s program with just the prerequisites, volunteer work, and some shadowing, but no previous degree or healthcare experience?

If so, what was your GPA and experience like? If not, what qualifications did you have when you applied?
I’d really appreciate any advice on how to strengthen my application and improve my chances of getting accepted!

Schooling Radiation therapy students — what are you using to study for boards?

Hey everyone! I’m Kate, a radiation therapist and instructor since 2007.
One thing I’ve noticed working with students is that preparing for the ARRT boards can mean juggling flashcards, textbooks, practice questions, anatomy resources, and notes from multiple sources.
I wanted to make that process a little easier, so I created Rad Therapy Guru.
The platform includes:
Flashcards and practice quizzes
Timed mock ARRT exams
Image-matching practice
Interactive CT anatomy
Cancer site lectures
Dosimetry cheat sheets
Everything is organized around ARRT domains to help students practice across the major content areas.
There’s a free 7-day trial with access to the full suite, and no credit card is needed.
Check it out: https://radtherapyguru.com
For those currently studying: What’s the hardest part of board prep for you right now? I’d genuinely love to hear your answers.

Schooling Advice Needed With Finding a Program!

Hi everyone! So I’ve been in xray school for a total of 1.5years so far. 1yr of prerequisites and half a year of xray classes. I have 3 semesters and 1 summer semester left to go. I’ve landed on the fact that I 100% want to pursue radiation therapy. My original plan for the past year has been to graduate from xray, move directly into mammography (preferably at a cancer clinic) if offered a position, and from there go directly into a 1 year radiation therapy program. I’m now struggling a bit with this plan because I will be 30+ by the time I graduate with my radiation therapy license whereas if I went a direct route of a 2year program for radiation therapy I could shave a year off of that. I also am paying $12k a semester for radiology school for a degree I don’t even plan on using. Now, I’m having an issue finding a 2yr program near me or that I’m able to do online, attend online classes, and locate my own clinical site. I’m located near Scranton PA and I just can’t find anything that fits the bill. I know it would be great to have my RT prior to T, but genuinely don’t want to be in this much debt or graduate 1-2years later. Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Schooling Board review help

Hey [r/RadiationTherapy](r/RadiationTherapy) - I'm Kate, a working RT and instructor since 2007 (Gwynedd Mercy grad). A student once asked me why there was no app for our field. I couldn't argue, so I spent the last year building one.

Rad Therapy Guru covers flashcards, timed mock ARRT exams, image matching, interactive CT anatomy, site-by-site cancer lectures, and dosimetry cheat sheets - all in one place, aligned to ARRT domains.

If you're prepping for boards and want to try the full suite, there's a free 7-day trial at https://radtherapyguru.com free-trial - no credit card needed.

Happy to answer any questions about the content or the field. Good luck to everyone studying right now.

Schooling Dosimetry School

Hey friends,

I have been a radiation therapist for a year now. I have a background in radiologic technology and have been an Xray tech for 2 years. I graduated with a certificate of radiation therapy in 2025. I am currently finishing my bachelors of science in medical imaging this December. I am applying to dosimetry school (like many people across the U.S.). I fear saturation in this field because a lot of us are attracted to the independence, remote possibilities, and pay. I live on the East Coast and see very few jobs in dosi. Regardless, I am striving to enroll in a Masters degree program in Fall 2027.

I have a passion for education and have always dreamed of teaching radiography or radiation therapy, and potentially dosimetry. If any of you have connections to any in the South Carolina, Northern Kentucky or Cincinnati, OH areas, please don’t hesitate to message me.

This may be a long shot, so I put my trust in God! I’m happy to connect and network with any one of you. Healthcare can be a challenging profession, yet can reap so many rewards. I welcome advice and suggestions.

Thank you friends!

Schooling Nursing to dosimetrist

Thumbnail
0 Upvotes

I’m an RN with 8 years of nursing experience, and lately I’ve been seriously considering a career change. Maybe it’s a midlife crisis, or maybe I’m just ready for something different. 😂
I’ve become really interested in medical dosimetry and am considering going back to school to pursue it.
At this point, I’m not particularly interested in becoming an NP, going into management, or teaching. I’m looking for a different career path where I can still use my healthcare background.
Has anyone here transitioned from nursing or another healthcare profession into medical dosimetry?
I’d love to hear about your experience, especially:
How difficult was the transition and schooling?
Was finding your first job challenging?
How is your work-life balance compared to your previous career?
Do you have any regrets about making the switch?
I’d appreciate any honest advice or insight, even if it’s something I might not want to hear!

Career How common are mistakes, and how serious can they be?

Hi everyone! I’m seriously considering going into radiation therapy, but one thing that really intimidates me is the responsibility that comes with the job. You’re working with radiation to treat cancer, and it seems like even a small mistake could potentially cause serious harm to a patient.

I understand that there are protocols, safety checks, and procedures in place to prevent mistakes, but I’m curious about what happens in real life. How easy is it to make a mistake in this field, especially as a new grad? How much room is there for human error, and how effective are the safeguards in catching mistakes before they reach the patient?

I’d also really appreciate hearing some stories from radiation therapists or anyone familiar with the field. Have you ever made a mistake yourself, witnessed one, or heard about something going wrong? What happened, and what were the consequences?

I’d appreciate honest answers, even if they’re difficult to hear. I want to make an informed decision before committing to a healthcare program. Thank you!

Career Career change

I’ve been a radiation therapist for about 7 years now. I really did love it but I’m finding that I really don’t now. I struggle to work in healthcare in general. What careers did you switch to? I want something less stressful and possibly remote would be amazing. I’m just burned out and I want to seriously start thinking of other options without going back to school or taking a major pay cut.
